Jurassic Park Broken Lives
Chapter Two: Prey?
Disclaimer: I do not own Jurassic Park….
Silver Claw stood in the doorway, his eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness of this windowless room. Only a low amount of light came from the hallway behind, though that was still not enough for him to see properly. The room was silent, the only indication something was in there was the light scent of the near by creature. Slowly and cautiously, Silver Claw entered the room, as he proceeded into the room there was a loud crack. Underneath his left foot now lay a pile of broken leaves.
"Hello? Who's there?" A soft female voice asked, though it was not in raptor.
Silver Claw quickly scanned the room for the source of the noise but could not find its source. The only things he could distinguish in the darkness were a large desk covered in papers, a rotating chair enclosed in a see through material, and a huge metal screen dividing the room in half.
"Is anyone there?" The female asked before she started to cry.
Silver Claw quietly walked to the desk and looked under it. Suddenly he jumped back as a loud scream filled the room and the creature that made it ran for the door. With a single leap, Silver Claw cut the fleeing creature off before it could escape. This female creature fell over backwards screaming even louder than before.
Silver Claw backed away shaking his head in pain. Suddenly several lights came on and others shattered as his tail hit a light switch. While sparks rained down the creature took her chance and ran for a second door. Silver Claw, stunned by the sudden flash of light, stood dazed in by the door. All of a sudden, the room filled with even more light than before as the second door opened with a loud creak. Then as quickly as it came the light from the door disappeared as the door was closed again.
Now finally recovered Silver Claw headed towards the door but swiftly jumped back as it broke free of the hinges and fell to the ground. Now the open door way in front of him revealed a metal framed walkway overhanging a cliff, dropping several hundred feet down. Silver Claw glanced out the door slightly; just see the creature disappear around the corner of the building.
Silver claw stepped cautiously onto the metal path but hoped there was another way but upon glancing up, he only saw a solid surface. Cautiously he made is way down the walkway, hearing it creak with every step he took. Finally, he made it around the corner onto a solid pathway and his pace quickened. Silver Claw swiftly followed the scent of the creature to the front of the building, through the dense over grown grounds in front and stopped at the gate.
The jungle quieted as Silver Claw approached the tree line; he was just about to enter the jungle when he heard a loud crack and looked up. In a tall oak above him the female dangled from a branch, several branches tumbled down and landed near Silver Claw but he paid no attention to them.
Suddenly he realized what this creature was… a human. He had never seen a human before, though the pack elders would tell stories about how humans once lived on this island. How at on time the humans kept almost all the creatures on the island in cages until the storm came. The elders never knew why the humans left the island, but they did so in a hurry and released all the anlmals.
A sudden scream made Silver Claw snap back to the present. Above, in the branches the female began to slip. Suddenly the branch cracked and the human fell, screaming all the way down she landed in a large pile of moss. Silver Claw just stared at the human, the smell of fear filled the air and he slowly approached. The human wheezed with every breath as Silver Claw approached. She tried to scream but could not. Silver Claw lowered his head and slightly nudged the terrified human, who still tried to scream but soon her eyes filled with tears that mixed with the dirt and scratches on her face.
This human does not seem so cruel like in some of the stories Silver Claw thought. He slightly nudged her again and said, "Hello, who are you." However, to the girl it only sounded like a soft growl.
The girl, now crying louder, looked to the left and then back at Silver Claw then to the right. Silver Claw and the girl both looked to the left when a loud roar suddenly shook the jungle. The girl's eyes widened even more than before and began to run away even though Silver Claw was right there. Silver Claw quickly followed behind her; however, they had run into the jungle and not the building.
Although much faster, Silver Claw stayed near the human girl as they ran through the jungle. Behind them, the source of the roar broke through the tree line to find nothing near the building and roared in furry. Suddenly the human girl tripped and screamed in pain.
Silver Claw stopped just before he tripped over her and looked back to see the Spinosaur crashing through the undergrowth. He quickly looked back and forth between the human and the Spinosaur. While Silver Claw was looking, the girl tried to stand but immediately fell over in pain. Silver Claw quickly grabbed the girl by the thing covering her upper body and dragged her into a large bush. Unfortunately, there was a very steep hill behind it and both tumbled down the hill into a dried up stream. The Spinosaur now stood at the top of the hill sniffing the air in an attempt to find them. Silver Claw was not taking any chance so pressed himself and the human against a wall rock.
Another roar, not of the spinosaur, echoed from down the stream. Silver Claw looked to see nothing but suddenly a creature moved and became visible then disappeared only a second after. A carnotaurus, the only animal on the entire island able to disappear almost completely, stood staring at the spinosaur.
The Spinosaur roared and spun around, knocking over a tree that fell between the carnotaurus and Silver Claw. However, the carnotaurus stood still and remained camouflaged but when the spinosaur took a step forward the carnotaurus flashed a brilliant red and charger.
While Silver Claw watched the two titans fight, the human slowly crawled towards a small entrance in the rock she had noticed. Silver Claw noticed this and stuck his head in before she reached it. Inside was large enough to hold several humans though the entrance was a tight fit but at least it was empty. The girl was close so Silver Claw did not have far to push her although she struggled against it. Finally, once she was in he started to crawl in, despite the fact that that the entrance was small and he got stuck several time, he made it in.
Silver Claw laid by the door hoping to see what was happening outside. Suddenly on the other side of the dried stream, the carnotaurus collapsed on its side. The spinosaur stepped in front of the entrance to the cave where Silver Claw and the human female remained hidden. The spinosaur sniffed the air before diving into its fallen adversary, pools of blood formed and large chunks of meat fell to the ground. Silver Claw then remembered the human sharing this hiding spot and turned to see her shaking and pale.
Silver Claw slowly made his way to the frightened girl, who moved even farther into the cave. She finally reached the back, covered her eyes, and began to cry softly. "Go away," she said as Silver Claw stopped in front of her.
Slowly Silver Claw tilted his head and examined the girl. The human never took he eyes off Silver Claw as he walked around her. Finally, Silver Claw laid down in front of her and looked out the entrance.
Outside a low rumble sounded over the island and soon it began to rain. The smell of the dense jungle foliage filled the air and a light breeze swayed the trees. The spinosaur now moved off, leaving the half-eaten carcass. The jungle began to come alive with the croaking of frogs and many other small animals. The rain came down steadily for several hours until night came and moonlight bathed the island.
Silver Claw, lost in his thoughts laid by the entrance. His mind raced with thoughts of what has happened to him in resent days, of his family and of his home. One thing though was stuck in his mind, why was he with a human? Was it because he was lonely, or was it that he curious about this new creature? Well, what ever it was he did not know, but at least he would not be alone tonight. Silver Claw took one final look at the human, who had all ready fallen asleep. He yawned and slowly fell asleep…
