"Colonel, do I need to remind you what happened last time a lone surviving child was brought thru the stargate?" Hammond asks, as SG-1 joins him in the briefing room.
"How could I forget, General," Jack says, taking his usual seat at the table.
"I do not want to repeat that scenario."
"Neither do I, General. But her planet exploding around us; we couldn't leave her there to die," Daniel says.
"I agree with Daniel Jackson," Teal'c adds.
"So you all just decided to bring her here?" Hammond asks.
"I made the call to bring her here, Sir," Jack says.
"Okay, now the question is what do we do with her?"
"Well she can't be sent back to the planet. It's gone," Daniel says, leaning forward in his chair.
"I think before we decide anything we should wait to see if Janet finds anything," Sam says
"Well then let me know when you find out more about our young guest, dismissed," Hammond says as he stands and walks into his office.
Sam stands and looks at Jack, "I am going to check on Ash'ka, and find out if there is anything that we need to be aware of."
"Okay, I think I am going to make a pizza run. Teal'c, would you care to join me?"
Teal'c inclines his head slightly, "Certainly O'Neill."
"Great, does everyone want the usual?"
"Sounds good to me", Daniel says.
Teal'c and Jack stand and walk toward the door as they begin a discussion as to whether or not there will be fish on the pizza.
Daniel turns to Sam, "Would you care for some company on the way to the infirmary?"
"Sure, besides that gives me the chance to ask you something."
"Alright," Daniel says as they step into the elevator.
"How long were you in the temple before we got there?"
"Maybe 15 minutes."
"And she didn't say anything to you until we showed up?
"Not a word. I was starting to think she wasn't understanding me."
"When did she say that she was waiting there for us?"
"Just before you walked in; you were probably just coming into the main chamber."
"Hmm..."
They fall silent as they exit the elevator and walk down the corridor to the infirmary. Janet sees them as they enter and moves toward them.
"Well Janet, what do you think?" Sam asks.
"I've done every test, every scan, I could think of and everything looks good."
"But…" Daniel urges.
Janet takes a breath, "But there is something…off about her."
"What do you mean?" Sam asks.
"Well, it's more a feeling I got when I was talking to her. It's like…I feel like she should be older than she appears."
"How so?" Daniel asks, crossing his arms.
"You remember when Cassie came? She acted and spoke like a child. Ash'ka," Janet pauses, then continues. "She talks more like a lot of the Goa'ulds that we have come across."
"I am not Goa'uld."
Ash'kas sudden appearance beside Janet causes everyone to catch their breath.
"You should be resting," Janet says, as she tries to lead Ash'ka back to her bed.
But Ash'ka shakes Janet's hand from her shoulder.
"I require no more rest," She turns to Sam. "I wish to talk with you."
Daniel places his hands on his hips, "Why Sam?"
"It is you I have been waiting for, Ash'ka says, ignoring Daniel.
"Me?" Sam asks, shocked. "Why?"
"Because, you are like me."
"Like you how?"
"You are not prepared to understand."
"Try me."
"I shall try to be simple. The one you call Jack possesses part of an ancient race in his being. You are much the same, only you carry part of my people in you."
"Part of you people? What does that mean?" Daniel asks.
Ash'ka looks at Daniel, "Her origins are Anochan."
Sam shakes her head, "That's not possible."
"On the contrary, it is completely possible."
"Hold on a minute. How do you know that Sam has part of your people in her?" Janet asks.
"I can sense it in her."
"What do you mean you can sense it?" Daniel asks.
"The Anocha were a people of the mind. And by the mind we were connected to one another."
"What do you mean were?" Sam asks.
"You are not what I was taught you were," Ash'ka says, as she inclines her head slightly and looks at them.
Sam sighs, "Janet is there any reason she needs to stay in the infirmary?"
"None that I can think of."
"Okay," Sam says. "Airman, there is a room that has been set up for her. I'll be down to talk to her again soon."
"Yes Ma'am," the airman says then turns to Ash'ka, "This way please."
Ash'ka looks from the airman to Sam, "A guard is not necessary."
"I'm sorry, but you have no say in the matter for now."
"As you wish Mah'la," Ash'ka bows toward Sam, then turns to the airman, "You may take me now to this room."
Sam looks at Janet as Ash'ka leaves, "Do you think it is possible that I have this 'gene' she is talking about?"
"From what I have seen around here the last couple of years, I guess anything is possible. She said that she could sense it in you, do you feel drawn to her in any way?"
"I don't think so. Daniel, can you go tell General Hammond what she said, I'm going to go talk to her again. Maybe she has me confused with someone else."
"Maybe, but then why would she call you Mah'la?"
"I don't even know what it means."
"It almost seems like it could be a term used to show respect. But I have never heard of the Anocha so I could be completely wrong."
"And that is the other thing I was wondering. I mean we know the Goa'uld and their back story. We've met the Asguards and the Tok'ra. Don't you think it's strange that none of them have ever mentioned this other race of people?"
"Could it be that none of them knows this race exists?" Janet asks.
"How would that happen?"
Daniel shrugs, "The universe is huge. Maybe they aren't even from this part of it."
"But then how would I have this gene?"
"Well there is only one way I know of getting answers. We have to talk to her more."
"I know. The room that I had her put in has a camera so we can watch the tapes again later in case I miss something when I go talk to her now."
"Okay, well I am going to get back to work. Let me know if there is anything you need help with Sam," Janet says.
"Thanks Janet," Sam says over her shoulder as she and Daniel leave the infirmary.
"Sam, I think you should wait to talk to her again until Jack and Teal'c get back."
"I was thinking that too. But I want to be alone with her in the room. Maybe she will tell me more if it's just her and I," Sam says.
"Well, it's worth a try."
