A/N: hey guys, im sorry for the late update but I've had a hectic first couple of summer weeks and I just haven't had the inspiration to write. I am hopefully getting back on track and another chapter of Dare To Survive, I Kissed a Girl, and Caught in the Lie should be out soon. For those of you that are waiting on an update of 17 to Go, I may not get around to updating that for a while. I'm working on a couple new pieces, a Nichel and a Next Generation New Directions story.
Also, I love how people are putting their input on the different couples. It makes me smile (: Each couple will have their own time in this story, except for Faberry. That just includes flirting and Quinn trying to get Rachel when we all know that would never happen in this story :P I don't even remember why I insisted on putting faberry in this story. It'll die off soon, I promise :p
The "Warbler Room" mentioned is the room where performances such as "Uptown Girl", "Teenage Dream" and so forth take place. In my opinion, its not the choir room. When I think of the Warbler choir room I think of the setting where "Smooth Criminal" took place.
(Rachel/Blaine/Both)
Rachel quickly finished unpacking her luggage and went straight to some early decorating. She set up a bulletin board above her desk, pinning a calendar to it as well as a bunch of pictures. She had pictures of her and Finn, her and Puck, the entire glee club, her, Tina, and Mike, and a bunch more. She also pinned up some of her goals in life, like she did on her board at home. Once she was satisfied with how she decorated her desk area, she went over and set up the alarm clock next to her bed for 6:00 am.
"Rachel, you know classes don't start till like, 7:45 right?" Nick said, coming out of the bathroom while tying his tie.
"I know, I just have this routine in the morning that consists of a half hour of exercise, a special facial scrub, a shower, and so much more. Also, I always get up at 6."
"Well, it's good to know I'm not the only early riser around here. I get up around 6:30 though, so maybe we can go for a run in the morning if you wait for me?" Nick asked with a smile as he pulled on his blazer. "I know where all the good trails and such are. Or we could head on down to the gym, they have an indoor track."
"That sounds like fun; I guess another half hour of sleep would be nice." Rachel said with a smile as she adjusted her alarm clock.
Nick slipped on his shoes and adjusted his hair as he grabbed the keys to the room. He realized that he had two keys and handed one to Rachel.
"Here, you might need this if nobody's in here."
Rachel looked up from the clock and smiled. "Thanks."
Nick smiled. "So, you ready?"
"I have been since I got here." Rachel replied with a chuckle.
"Alright, well, let us be off!" Nick joked as if he was at a renaissance festival.
Rachel laughed and followed Nick to the Warbler room.
"Over there is the library, there's tons of books in there. And over there is the café, that's where we go for food and stuff." Nick joked as he pointed to the different places around the campus. He led Rachel into the admin building that she was in the day before. "And this is the admin office; down those halls are the rec. rooms, a.k.a. the choir room, Warbler room, gym, ect. And down that hall leads to the other building that hold the dreaded classrooms."
Rachel smiled as she took in all of Nick's goofyness. They laughed the whole way into the Warbler room. When they got there, the only other people in the room were an Asian, a tall African-American, and a guy around the height of Nick, but with bleached blonde Bieber-style hair.
"Hey guys, this is Rachel. Rachel, this is Wes," Nick gestured to the Asian, "David," he gestured to the African-American, "and Jeff." he gestured to Blonde-Bieber-Boy. "David and Wes, like I said before, are the captains of the Warblers. I have no idea where Blaine ran off to, though." Nick explained.
"Oh, he went to fetch Trent and Thad. They had buried themselves in the library." Jeff said, with a British accent.
Nick nodded and whispered in Rachel's ear. "He's just using an accent, play along with it." Rachel smiled and nodded.
"I am not!" Jeff let his accent fall. "Dammit!" Jeff then gasped and slammed his hand over his mouth.
"Now Jeffy, you know we have a zero tolerance for swearing in the Warbler room. Go stand in the corner and think about what you did." Wes said and guided Jeff over to the nearest corner that wasn't blocked by either a couch or a table.
Rachel was trying to stifle a laugh when Blaine walked in. "Rachel! So glad you could make it." He said with a smile. Two people came in behind him. One was a medium height, slightly chubby guy with brunette hair that reminded Rachel of Kurts, and one was a tall, skinny guy with short, black curly hair. "This is Trent," he pointed to chubby, "and Thad." He pointed to skinny.
Rachel smiled and laughed when Jeff called out. "Can I come out now?"
Blaine looked confusedly behind him and saw that Jeff was standing in a corner. The sight itself made Blaine, Thad, and Trent burst out in laughter. "Wes, did you do that to scare Rachel?" Wes nodded while laughing. "Rach, that doesn't actually happen. We all swear normally in here, it's no big of a deal." Rachel smiled.
"Aw Blainy-poo, why do you have to go and ruin all the fun?" Nick said in a baby voice.
"Yeah Blainey-poo!" Jeff joined in on the mockery.
Blaine rolled his eyes. "Alright, well, I talked it over with Wes and David, and they said that you could audition. Does that sound good, Rachel?" Blaine asked and Rachel nodded
"Do you have something for me to sing or can it be anything?" Rachel asked.
"Actually, if you don't mind, Blaine suggested that you guys do a duet. Wes and I have gone to some of McKinley's show choir performances, you know, because we're up against them for Sectionals, and we heard you singing. You sound great, but can we pair you up with one of our best singers?" David explained, and Blaine beamed.
"Alright, well, what song do you have planned?" Rachel asked, eager to sing.
"Here." Blaine handed Rachel some sheet music and she looked it over.
"Sounds good." Rachel smiled as everyone took a sheet. Rachel heard that they were an acapella group. When the Warblers started making the music themselves, she couldn't help but smile wide. She got her self mentally ready before reading the music on the sheet.
"every night i walked the streets
never dreaming what could happen
sad and so lonely
i saw in the mirror my reflection
staring back at me
i thought, will i ever find what i need?
but i'll wear that dress if you wear the tie
and baby we'll dance through the night
cuz no one's got what we've got going
happiness never held on to me
until you help me see
that together we're just better off
oh my heart's been tried
time and again
always thought that it was me but
i see now just how wrong i was
no, i haven't known you for a lifetime
but somehow i've never been more sure that you're for me
baby please
don't leave, just come and dance with me tonight
but i'll wear that dress if you wear the tie
and baby we'll dance through the night
cuz no one's got what we've got going
happiness never held on to me
until you had me see
that together we're just better off
we're just better off
don't be cruel to me
oh, i've wanted more
and i've been wrong before
so much learning to lose
but you're not a day too soon
so say you feel the same and
we'll never be lonely anymore
i'll wear that dress if you wear the tie
and baby we'll dance through the night
cuz no one's got what we've got going
happiness never held on to me
until you help me see
that together we're just better off
i'll wear that dress if you wear the tie
and baby we'll dance through the night
cuz no one's got what we've got going
happiness never held on to me
until you help me see
that together we're just better off
we're just better off
I'll wear the dress
I'll wear the tie
And we'll just dance through the night, tonight, tonight
Tonight"
Rachel squealed when the song was over. She jumped into a hug with Blaine and kissed his cheek. "Oh my god that was amazing!"
The Warblers laughed at their new addition.
"Well Rachel, we'd like to welcome you to the Warblers."
Rachel squealed again making the Warblers all laugh again.
After Warblers practice it was around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Nick was walking Rachel back to their dorm across the campus.
"So, what do you guys do for fun around here?" Rachel asked.
"Well, I like to wander the trails and stuff taking pictures. But there are also times where Jeff and I round up the Lacrosse team and the Warblers and we kinda put together water fights. Basically, if there's Warblers and/or Lacrosse players around, it's going to be fun." Nick said with a laugh.
"Cool." Rachel answered with a smile.
When they got back to their dorm Rachel decided to look at her schedule.
"Hey Rach, what's your schedule? We might have some classes together." Nick asked, sitting next to her on Rachel's bed.
"Um, Physiology, Geometry, Spanish, Free Period, Phys. Ed., then I have English." Rachel answered.
"Cool. We have Physiology and Free together. I know Blaine has Geometry and English, so he could help you find those classrooms if you ask him. I'll text him, okay?" Nick said, pulling out his phone. Rachel smiled.
"Okay, Blaine said that he has Spanish first hour, which is right next door to our Physiology classroom. He'll walk you to Geometry. Also, you should probably have my number, in case you get lost." Nick suggested with a chuckle.
"Yeah, I agree. I could probably get lost pretty easily in this school." Rachel said as they swapped phones and programmed their numbers in each others phones.
Nick handed Rachel her phone back and got off the bed. "I'd love to learn more about you, but I've got Lacrosse practice. Sorry." He said as he grabbed the duffle bag in the corner of the room. Rachel got up and gave him a hug.
"it's fine." She smiled before lightly pecking his cheek. Nick smiled and headed out the door.
'Hey girl. How's Dalton?-Kurt'
'It's great. I've met so many guys already, and I joined their show choir!-R*'
'That's awesome. Keep me updated?-Kurt.'
'Definitely.-R*'
Rachel smiled as she set her phone down and gathered her books for the next day. She got her over-the-shoulder bag all ready before she pinned up a few more pictures onto her bulletin board. She searched her luggage for the books she decided to read. She just so happened to come across Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone.
Rachel woke up to the sound of dual alarm clocks going off at 6:30. She shot up, and smiled when she saw Nick reaching to turn off his alarm.
"Wake up, sleepy head. Time for a run." Rachel singsonged as she grabbed her running clothes and headed for the bathroom.
Nick groaned, but eventually sat up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. "I didn't know you were such a morning person." He said grumpily as Rachel came out of the bathroom, fully dressed and ready for a run.
"Get up Mr. Grumpy Gills. You gotta get dressed and ready if you want to show me those trails." Rachel told him in a baby voice with a mile wide smile.
Nick rolled his eyes and smiled. He quickly got himself dressed and walked out quietly to the trails with Rachel by his side.
"Ahh! Who knew they're so many branches in the woods?" Rachel said as she struggled to push past a few branches.
Nick smiled and laughed. "Well, first of all, that's not even the trails." Rachel looked down and sure enough, she wasn't on the dirt-clad trail. She sent a glare at Nick who just laughed some more.
They ran for a little while longer before Nick checked the time and suggested they head back so they weren't late for class. Rachel agreed, and they were back in their dorm in record time. They had sprinted all the way back.
"Alright, do you want to shower first?" Nick asked.
"Actually, I think you should. I have this very complex routine to do before I shower." Rachel replied and Nick answered with a nod before heading in the bathroom.
Rachel started her routine and was finished with the before-shower portion right as Nick came out of the shower. Rachel smiled and headed into the bathroom, leaving Nick to finish getting ready.
Nick had just tied his tie and was in the midst of putting his blazer on when he heard Rachel singing.
"you wanna be, you wanna be, a loser like me."
That's adorable. Her voice is amazing. He thought. But why does she think she's a loser?
Rachel was out of the shower in 5 minutes tops and walked out of the bathroom in her white shirt and grey skirt. She had a small trouble putting on her tie, which with slight hesitation, Nick helped her with. She pulled on her blazer, grabbed her bag, and they were off to their Physiology class.
All throughout the class, after Rachel was introduced to the teacher, Mrs. Simmons, and was seated next to Nick, Nick kept sending friendly but flirtly smiles Rachels way. Rachel smiled back, and was excited for the day.
After Physics, Blaine met up with Rachel and led her to Geometry with Rachel's arm laced with his own. He introduced her to the Geometry teacher, Mr. Smith, and sat down in his seat. Rachel was placed in the front. Halfway through the class Rachel felt something hit the back of her head. She turned around and saw Blaine and Jeff sniggering. Rachel smiled and rolled her eyes before turning back to the teacher.
As soon as Geometry was over Rachel headed over to the Spanish teacher. She ended up literally running into someone on the way there.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Rachel apologized.
"Ha, Rachel, it's fine." Rachel was confused. She looked up and smiled when she saw Sebastian.
"Oh hey Sebastian. Where you off to?" she asked.
"Spanish. And I'm assuming by the Spanish book in your hands that that's where your headed as well?" he answered, very classy-like.
"Yes, I am."
"Then let me walk you there. You shouldn't be walking alone, especially on your first day." Sebastian offered.
"I'd love that." Rachel smiled and Sebastian led her to the Spanish classroom. After meeting the teacher, Ms. Gonzales, Rachel took a seat next to Sebastian.
The next thing she had was lunch. Rachel walked into the café and smiled when she saw a seat open at what she assumed was the Warblers table, because it was right next to Blaine and Nick. She sat down and was instantly surrounded by the rest of the Warblers.
Nick walked Rachel back to their dorm after lunch. They had free period and they decided to drop off their books from the morning classes before taking a walk with Nick's camera. He had his photography class next.
"So Nick, have you ever shot a model?" Rachel asked as Nick took some close ups of small flowers.
"Surprisingly, no, I haven't. But Ms. Thompson really wants me to." Nick explained.
"You look so at peace with that camera." Rachel noticed.
"It's because I am." Nick stated making Rachel smile, which Nick took a picture of.
They spent the rest of their free period finding good background scenery and Nick snapping pictures of Rachel.
Rachel had Phys. Ed. next. She, of course, wasn't surprised when the gym teacher, Mr. Olec, a man that seemed to be in his thirties, said that they were playing dodgeball and that she was on the shirts team.
Rachel didn't exactly know where to change. They only had a boys locker room. She decided to wander off to the bathroom to change, lucky for her they had a girls bathroom because of the teachers.
When Rachel came out of the bathroom and back into the gym she saw the team she was on, and the team she was up against. Turns out, the captain of the skins team was none other than Sebastian Smythe.
Rachel smiled and got right into the game. Sebastian swore you could hear Rachels squeals from miles away.
After Rachel had walked back into her dorm and showered, she was 5 minutes late for her English class. She sprinted to the classroom and tripped trying to open the door. When the teacher, Mr. Kirby, opened the door she said a sincere apology before sitting down next to Blaine who was cracking up. Rachel sent him a glare as she took out her notebook.
After classes for the day were over Rachel wasn't surprised to find Nick in their dorm, laying chest down on the bed reading Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix.
"That's a good book." Rachel said as she set her bag down.
"I know." Nick replied, sitting up. Rachel pulled her book out and started to read.
"Re-reading it?" Nick asked.
"Yeah, gosh, I love these books." Rachel answered.
"Have you heard of this site called Pottermore?" Nick asked, and Rachel nodded.
"Yeah, what house are you?"
"Slytherin." He said with a mischievous smile. "What about you?"
"Gryffindor." Rachel beamed. They both laughed and talked about who their favorite and least favorite characters were before Nick had to leave for the lacrosse game.
"Oh Rachel, I have a Dalton Lacrosse shirt you could wear tonight so you don't have to wear your blazer. It's in my top drawer." Nick said before he left.
Rachel smiled and picked up her phone.
'How's McKinley?-R*'
'Chaos.-Q'
'Finn's been a douche since you left.-M'
'Brittany hasn't talked except for 'I miss Rachie.'-T'
'HELP US ALL. RACHEL, GOD HELP US.-Kurt.'
Rachel smiled at the texts.
'That bad, huh? Well don't worry, I'm definitely visiting this weekend.-R*'
'yes, and good.-Q'
'hell to the yes!-M'
'you need to explain to Brittany why you left!-T'
'SAVE US YOU LITTLE DIVA.-Kurt.'
Rachel couldn't help but chuckle at Kurts text. She grabbed the t-shirt from Nick's drawer, found a pair of her black skinny jeans and her black chucks, and headed out to the game.
A/N: not much Smytheberry, but that will happen soon. I just needed to get her through her first day of classes and which ones she shares with who. I hope you liked the Nichel (: Next chapter will be the lacrosse game!
Song used was Dress and Tie by Charlene Kaye feat. Darren Criss and Loser Like Me from Glee.
