Sitting outside in the 80 degree weather while watching Claire chat away with Gorman about gardening, Caleb could distinctly remember the day before his thirteenth birthday like it was yesterday. He could remember how just a week earlier his friends were discussing about growing up and starting a new chapter in their lives.

They didn't expect it to be quite literally.

First it was Caleb.

His party was a small one and only a day before his birthday and only his three friends were invited as were their parents. Caleb didn't understand and wanted his other friends from school to be there too, but didn't want to go against his mothers wishes so he stayed quiet. It was all fun and games until the clock struck 12. Caleb and his friends were stoked because their parents allowed them to stay up late. They didn't realize it was because they had to witness Caleb get his powers. As the clock struck 12 Caleb was under immense pain. His head felt like it was being split apart, his body felt like a thousands knives and punches were being thrown at him non stop. He could feel something surging inside him, something that made him feel powerful and indestructible and he did not like it one bit. After going through the process, he remembered seeing the scared expressions on his brothers faces. It was their parents that had explained what happened and what was going to happen.

It was called The Power and no one knows where it came from, not even The Book of Damnation. It explained what kind of powers they would attain and how to use it and the dangers of using it. No one needed to be reminded on the dangers of using after seeing William Danvers take abuse of it and age immensely; instead of looking 44 years old, he looked 90 years old. Caleb for a while was worried Reid would follow in his fathers footsteps if he wasn't careful enough. Fortunately after the Chase incident, it seemed to have been a wake up call to him. Although he still misses school on occasion and has not stopped being a womanizer, he stops using for irrelevant things. After Pogue ascended in November, it is Reid's turn in March to ascend and fully gain control of his powers. Something both Pogue and Caleb are helping Reid prepare for.

Caleb didn't know why he was going down memory lane, especially at a time like this. Maybe because it was this time that Chase started to appear last year. But he's dead. Caleb shook his head to clear his negative thoughts and looked up to see Chris joining his sister and Gorman. Chris stretched his arms over his head while Claire laughed about something Gorman said. Caleb was glad he had new step-siblings to live with, the twins seemed especially fun to be around and although he knew they were trouble makers, he did not mind one bit.

"Caleb! Get out of the shade and get some sun!" Claire had stood up and dusted her overalls and began walking over to where Caleb was sitting under the porch's shade. It was a nice, sunny day out, a rare on for Ipswich's weather. As soon as Henry saw the forecasting he had taken Evelyn out on a picnic date, leaving the children at home with Gorman, stating that by the time they came back, both Claire's and Chris's room better be unpacked. Caleb knew neither of them had begun.

"Caleb!"

"I'm sorry, what?" Caleb, once again, shook his thoughts and looked up at Claire who had her hands on her hips.

"That's the problem with you folk, you are too used to the darkness that your minds have become all jumbled up and you poor souls can't do a thing about it." Claire joked referring to the weather but it struck a chord in Caleb. He and his brothers will never be normal and as much as they tried to live a normal life, they wouldn't be able to. He didn't know how he was going to keep this a secret to his new step-siblings that were going to be around him 24/7.

"Maybe we like being in the dark side. We like being able to be in power and be unstoppable and having no one do a thing about it." Caleb responded in a deeper voice while wrapping his arms around Claire's waist and hoisting her up into his shoulders and spinning her around. While Claire laughed and Chris took pictures with her camera, Caleb could feel a new feeling emerge in him, something he only felt with his brothers. It was a feeling of being family love.

"Charlie! Charlie! Come rescue your mama who is being held captive by the mean, dark Caleb!" Claire called out in between laughter. Hearing his owner calling his name, Charlie bounded over and with determination, began barking at Caleb who still had Claire over his shoulder. Charlie at first barked at Caleb and seeing it had no effect on him, he began biting at Caleb's ankles and this caused Caleb to trip and unconsciously, use his power to prevent Claire from landing onto the stone pathway. Instead of getting injured, it seemed as if someone else had pushed Claire to fall onto the grass and even then she hovered slightly and landed with a soft 'oomph' all while Caleb had scraped his arms because he fell onto the stone pathway, where Claire should have landed.

Chris had immediately rushed over to check for Claire for any injuries, and Caleb had gotten up while chuckling slightly.

"Man, that was insane. Claire, are you okay?" Caleb asked as Claire got up with the help of Chris.

"You're asking me if I'm okay? Clearly you're not! Your arms are all bloodied up! Don't worry, I've been trained for this, I have a first aid kit and if necessary I will have to use a needle to sedate you! Don't move!" Claire rushed into the house followed by Gorman. It was just Chris and Caleb outside. Caleb tried to act as if he didn't notice Chris' suspecting gaze on him, but inside he could barely comprehend why his body and mind automatically reacted to protecting Claire, without even thinking he had used his powers. Something he vowed to never use unless absolute necessary. Sure he had grown to love Claire within the first few days-something that surprised him-and would protect her. This was a small thing, if Caleb hadn't used his powers Claire would be the one having scraped and bloodied arms that could heal in a few weeks, nothing serious. But Caleb hadn't even interned to use it, it just…came.

"What was that?" Chris had asked. Chris had seen the way Claire should have fallen, instead he saw her being pushed by an invisible force and not even land hard, considering how high she was. He was terrified because he knew she was going to get injured badly but instead she came out unharmed.

"What was what?" Caleb had answered not meeting Chris' eyes.

"She didn't fall the way she was supposed to fall. She-something pushed her." Speaking his thoughts out loud Chris realized how ridiculous it sounded and seeing Caleb's face was only a confirmation that he might have been seeing things. Before Caleb could respond, Claire had come outside with her first aid kit and Gorman bringing an extra chair so she can sit in.

"Okay Caleb, I need you to sit down and let me take a look at your arms."

"Claire, I think he's fine." Chris responded which Claire ignored. Caleb raised an eyebrow at Chris and he just rolled his eyes before explaining.

"Claire, for a while, wanted to become a nurse so she volunteered her time at the local hospital and she grew close to the staff who taught her things that she took along with her. That first aid kit was given to her by the hospital as a gift when we were leaving. It's more than a normal first aid kit, it actually has a few needles and a sedative if needed. Claire has her own license to have something like that. So she does know a little about injuries and such." Caleb was taken aback at finding out this new information, Claire just seemed to take him by surprise more and more each day.

"Okay, this might hurt. I'm going to pour this so your cuts won't get infected." As Claire spoke, she held up a bottle and Caleb nodded at her signaling her to continue. She lightly dabbed at his cuts and then proceeded to add a soothing creme that will help with the stinging. Then she got her bandages and applied them where he most needed it. Seeing the bandages of Marvel's Avengers Caleb couldn't help but smile.

"All done, Caleb." Claire smiled proudly at her work.

"Very well done Claire!" Gorman praised Claire and her smile grew. Claire loved having her work and accomplishments being recognized by her loved ones.

"Thank you Claire Bear, I don't know what I'd do without you." Caleb had smiled and with care, brought her in to hug her.

"Bleed to death, obviously." Chris joked and Claire stuck her tongue out to him. Before either of them could respond, they heard a car being parked in the front and could hear Henry's and Evelyn's laughter. Both Claire and Chris looked at each other before heading inside and racing up the stairs to their respected rooms leaving two amused males outside.

In one corner of the large room resided open boxes, haphazardly stacked against one another. In the other corner resided six plastic bags of trash that desperately needed taking out and in the center of the room lay a small mound of dust. Despite all the boxes and trash in the room, Claire felt a sense of joy sweep over her upon inspecting the finished result. The room she was currently in was not what her father had picked out for her in the Danvers residence, however, upon exploring the full house she had immediately fell in love with the room in the West wing. The room was meant to be a study but it still had a small bathroom barely enough space to stand and Claire did not mind one bit. She fell in love with the room because even though it was very well big, it had a whole wall that's a bookshelf and another wall with big spacious windows to let the sunlight in. Despite Evelyn's and her fathers protest from being away from everyone else who resided in the East wing, Claire would not budge. Since they weren't expecting Claire, or anyone for that matter, to be sleeping in the room Gorman did not clean it, but Claire didn't mind one bit.

"I don't understand why you just can't sleep in the room we picked out for you, it has a big closet and a big bathroom." Evelyn questioned, she could not understand why a teenage girl picked the room that had a bookshelf and a small bathroom with no closest. Most girls would prefer the big bathroom and big closet.

"Because this room… it calls to me. It speaks to me saying 'Claire, Claire, come play with us.'" Claire put a hand over her heart, clearly joking around but judging by the looks on Caleb and Evelyn's faces they were not amused.

Chris tried to contain his chuckle but failed when their father sent a glare to him.

"Don't worry Eve, the mental asylum said to ignore her and she will go away. Always does." This time it was Claire to give her brother a glare.

"Eve?" Caleb questioned which Chris ignored.

"Oh my god, Chris I know you aren't allowed to take your meds anymore so I don't know why you're talking nonsense."

Before the other twin could come up with a comeback, Henry stepped between his two children.

"All right, we're done here" he spoke in his 'its final' voice. "Now Claire, finish up and take out the trash. Chris, you better have at least opened one box in your room."

At the mention of Chris' room, Claire smirked knowing very well her brother had not tried to unpack his room, while Chris fidgeted and muttered something incoherently and left. Evelyn giggled at that and wrapped her arms around Henry's waist, which Claire and Caleb looked away from. Even though they were both happy for their parents happiness, it was different seeing their parents be with another partner they just met. Ignoring the lovestruck couple Caleb stepped forward and proceeded on grabbing the boxes.

"Here Gorman and I will give you a hand with the trash." The three then proceeded to take out the trash leaving Claire's room finished.

During dinner Henry announced they would be going to school tomorrow to register for classes.

"Are we staying in the dorms?" Asked Chris, which caused Claire to shake her head.

"Why? Thinking of all the girls you can sneak in there?" She joked, knowing he was still tied to his… ex girlfriend or whatever he called her.

"No, you will be staying here. No reason to pay extra when you have a perfectly good home right here." Henry answered Chris.

"Caleb, tell Claire and Chris how Spencer Academy is like, what they should expect and what are the hip clubs to join." Evelyn looked at her son pointedly while the twins stifled their laughter at Evelyn's word of choice regarding 'hip'.

Caleb glared at the twins for a brief moment before clearing his throat and speaking.

"Well, Spencer has been around for quite some time and it's been known for its student's achievements by being accepted into ivy universities. They're very strict with their eduction, there are free periods that are mandatory in a specific room and you can't wander around. For example, every beginning term each student receives two free periods that they must complete their homework or to catch up if they have a failing grade. If the student has A's and has been doing good with no tardies they get both free periods open without having to attend their assigned room. Basically like home room. If the student is doing good but still has a few tardies or absences they only get one free period for themselves. Makes sense?"

By the time Caleb was finished both the twins had their mouths hanging slightly open and Henry inwardly chuckled. He always knew that his children's grades in school were great but their behavior was something else. They both didn't like being told what to do, they were almost always late to their classes and following the rules were a little difficult for them. It was worse for Chris since Claire knew when to stop but Chris was the more reckless one and since Claire looked up to Chris she would follow his footsteps.

"That's a prison not a school!" Protested Chris while Claire huffed and crossed her arms across her chest in agreement.

"Well, that prison well get you into the best ivy leagues in the state. Which ones are you planning on attending?" Caleb asked them both to which they both paled slightly.

"I'm sure the school will be fine. What about extracurricular activities? What do they have? I hope photography! Lord knows I need to meet with my other snappers out there." Claire spoke quickly changing the subject to which none pressed.

"Snappers?" Evelyn questioned raising a delicate brow.

"Claire bear refers to other photographers out there as 'snappers'. Don't know how she came up with the term." Henry answered.

"I came up with it when—"

"Lovely food Evelyn! Just lovely!" Chris spoke over Claire, knowing very well that once you got Claire into something, it's hard to take her out. Claire was about to answer when the doorbell rang.

"Who's that?" Claire asked instead.

"Well, we don't know because we're all sitting at the table." Chris responded.

"Stop being so mean to me!"

"I'm not! I'm only nice to you!"

"That's a damn lie! You're only mean to me 99% of the time!"

"Yes! And the other percent I am nice to you!"

As the twins bickered amongst themselves Caleb had gotten up to answer the door, having an idea as to who it was.

His suspicions were confirmed.

Upon opening the door there stood one of his three closest friends: Sarah, Pogue and Kate.

Sarah immediately threw her arms around Caleb and showered him with kisses while Kate and Pogue entered and shut the door.

"Oh I've missed you!"

"Please Sarah, you saw him yesterday." Kate said jokingly rolled her eyes, knowing if the roles were reversed she would act the same with Pogue. Caleb did not mind one bit receiving love from his girlfriend, he could do this all day, if it not for the fact that he had two set of identical eyes watching with curiosity.

Pulling away from Sarah but still having an arm wrapped around her waist, he cleared his throat.

"Claire, Chris, I want you to meet a few friends of mine. This is my girlfriend Sarah and that's Pogue and his girlfriend, Kate. Guys, this is Claire and Chris." Upon speaking his friends name they each waved or smiled at the twins who simply gave a smile in return.

"It's nice to meet you guys" Chris said stepping forward to give each of them a firm handshake while Claire stood in the back, bitting her lip. Sarah noticed this and stepped forward to Claire, sending her a warming smile.

"Hi, Claire right?" At this Claire nodded and sensing another pairs of eyes on her she turned towards left and saw Kate coming up to her.

"Those are such cute shoes! Where did you get them? They're not designer, I would know…" Kate mumbled as she inspected Claire's shoes. Grinning Claire answered, already getting past her shyness.

"I actually ordered them online from an asian site. It's called Yeestyle, they have all kinds of clothing, accessories and for a very good price." As the girls continued talking about what other sites Claire shops on, the boys were talking amongst themselves.

"So Reid and Tyler are the only ones missing right?" Chris asked

"Yes, they would have come but they were too preoccupied at Nicky's. They said they'll see you guys on Monday." Pogue answered to which Caleb rolled his eyes at.

"On behalf on them I apologize, it's not always that they are like this." Pogue gave his best friend a look before Caleb spoke.

"Okay yeah, expect more of this behavior from them, they've always been the-"

"Trouble makers of Spencer Academy." Sarah finished for her boyfriend while she came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. At this Pogue looked over at Claire who had yet to speak to him and she smiled and formed a soft hello.

"Don't let his big frame intimidate you, he's a big soft bear inside." Kate said pecking her boyfriend on the cheek while he pouted.

"That is not true! I can beat up anyones ass in a heart beat if they so much talk shit about me. I don't take shit from no one, I am my own person, I-"

"Pogue"

"Yes, baby?"

Kate sent a wink to Claire who was trying to contain her laughter.

"Anyway! Chris, Claire, has Caleb told you about the bonfire yet?"

"No, I haven't, I was about to." Caleb answered.

"Well, there's an annual back to school bonfire on Saturday. There's going to be dancing, drinks and all kinds of fun stuff. It'd be really nice if you guys came. We'd introduced you too other classmates so on the first day of school you guys will know people."

Hearing the word drinking both twins looked at each other, communicating only with their eyes. After a brief pause they both answered.

"We'd love to."

"O-Okay. Great!"

"That's creepy man." Both Sarah and Pogue spoke at the same time, not used to being around twins who spoke sentences at the same time. This earned a chuckle from Caleb and a smack on the arm from Kate.

"What? I'm only stating what everyone else is thinking!"

"That's not nice though Pogue! You can't be stating things without thinking what the outcome will be!"

"Outcome? What outcome? Who even says outcome?"

"I do! Gosh! You never appreciated the words I ever spoke!"

"What?" Clearly already confused with where his girlfriend was going, Chris and Claire couldn't help but laugh at the bickering couple.

"I'm just kidding baby. I love you." Kate smiled at her boyfriend which Pogue only mumbled something incoherent.

"I'm sorry I can't hear you." This only got more mumbling.

"What?" Clearly anyone could see Kate was only fooling around with her boyfriend, anyone except boy friend himself.

"I love you!"

"Aw, thank you baby." Kate laughed, amused at her boyfriends pout.

"Man, you are so whipped." Both Claire and Chris had once again spoke at the same time causing Pogues' head to turn to them so fast.

"Stop that." Pogue said, feeling uncomfortable with the twins speaking.

"Stop what?"

"That!"

"That what?"

"T-the thing that you guys are doing!

"What are we doing?" At this both of the twins had taken a step forward to Pogue, having their arms on their sides and tilting their heads at the exact same time causing Pogue to back up and become more uncomfortable.

"What's wrong Pogue?"

"I-I" Pogue only stuttered and at this point Kate and the rest kept on chuckling finding Pogue's reaction funny and the twins inside were dying to laugh but kept a strong poker face.

"Pogue?" Once again the twins took a step closer and at this Pogue had hit the door and had no where else to go to.

"Fuck off!" At this the twins dropped the act and laughed hysterically, clutching their stomachs causing the adults to come investigate. Finding a pouting Pogue and laughing twins, Henry immediately knew what was going on.

"C's what's going on?" Hearing their fathers old nickname for them both twins immediately halted their laughter.

"C's?" Sarah questioned while Pogue, seeing the twins shift uncomfortably took the opening and jumped right in.

"Yeah C's what's going on?" Pogues smirked once the twins sent him a nasty glare.

"Nothing dad just welcoming old Pogue here." Claire answered sweetly. Evelyn not noticing anything much huffed.

"Well, if that's all you've guys been doing for the past five minutes! Why don't the rest of you come and eat dinner with us? We've only started!"

"But we're almost do-" Chris immediately shut his mouth once his sister elbowed him and only smiled.

"Yes, come eat with us. Also feel free to tell us more about school, I wanna know when I should start pranking." Grinning Chris followed Henry and Evelyn who started taking plates out for everyone.

"We'll be right there, I've got to talk to Pogue about the tryouts coming up." Caleb explained and pulled Pogue into the living room.

"Was that you that used this morning?" Pogue asked going straight to it. Caleb only sighed and nodded his head.

"What the hell man! You of all people are always telling us not to use unless its life or death!"

"I know, I know. But I didn't even mean to, it… it did it by itself." Caleb explained while sitting down. Pogue eyed him confused before sitting down opposite of him.

"What do you mean, by itself."

"I don't know. I was playing around with Claire, I had her over my shoulder and her dog started attacking me. We were falling and she would have fell onto the stone pathway but somehow without even me realizing it or calling it forward, I had already used to prevent her from falling. Instead she fell softly onto the grass and I took the landing that she was supposed to have gotten. Pogue, I would protect her, but I won't waste my powers on something like that. Its like it acted on its own and came forward to make sure no harm would come to her. This has never happened before, not even with Sarah." Caleb put his head into his hands and Pogue thought for a moment.

"A-are you saying that you're growing romantic feelings for her?" Pogue asked slowly, unsure and confused.

Caleb raised his head in an instant. "Of course not! I see her as a little sister. I would understand why I would want to protect her, but this was a weird feeling. I felt as if I would give up my life for her without any questions asked." Pogue only stayed quiet and thought of what could have been happening.

"Also, Chris saw."

"What!? Caleb, what is going on with you, it seemed that everything you have always told us about, you're doing them."

"It's not like I wanted too! I acted as if what he saw was just his imagination and he dismissed it, but that's what I want you to understand. You know how I am with this, so you would know, why I would never use it. You need to understand that I did not call on it willingly. It came by itself." Caleb had gotten up and looked Pogue in the eyes. Pogue could see that his brother was confused and unsettled about this situation, something he rarely saw, however, before he could give him a response, his phone rang.

"It's Tyler, probably calling to ask about what happened this morning. Should I tell them?"

"No, tell them to meet us at the colony house at midnight. We are going to look into this." Caleb answered and Pogue nodded while he answered the phone.

Caleb would figure out why he had used without his will and why he had that feeling of protectiveness over Claire. After Pogue had hung up they both had entered the kitchen, both lost in their thoughts that they didn't notice that Chris wasn't in his seat at the dining table. He was hiding behind the wall that connected to the living room, his faced scrunched up in anger and confusion upon hearing the conversation that he was not meant to hear.
