Bobba Fett and I got split up after our encounter with Dex. It wasn't intentional... well, I'm not sure if it was. One moment he was trailing a few feet behind me, then the next time I turned around he was gone. And I mean long gone. I thought at first he simply broke off to go do some solo work, but he wouldn't respond over the encrypted radio channel so of course I panicked, thinking he got grabbed someone and ran back to help. But the more I ran, the more apparent it became that I would have found him already if this was the case. Things like this can really make a guy wonder about the totality of his contract and whether he's an asset or just another loose end to be tied up. Bobba was like a younger brother to me, sorta, but we both knew the game. If a bounty on his head was big enough, I'd take him out just the same. That's why making even acquaintances in this line of business was risky, and here I was looking at Bobba like family.
My legs soon refused to carry me any further in that the direction, the wrong direction. The path that lead me closer to that creepy ass shrine of Marka Ragnos and the bad vibes it gave off. My body simply said no. A cold shiver crept up my spine as I quickly turned and trekked back, heading this way and that through the confusing maze of chambers and corridors. Eventually I stumbled into a small chamber where two of my bounties just standing there waiting for me. They appeared to be in the middle of some type of exchange.
"Mr. Baruk!" I called out to the fat one on the left. "I thought you were dead. What happened?"
Reel Baruk spat back, "I'm a lot tougher than I look."
His companion, none other than Lannik Racto, seemed to recognize the symbol printed on the upper torso of my armor and simply addressed me by name. We'd never actually met in person, but I knew of him as well. A person's reputation can indeed precede them.
"Oran."
"Lannik"
"You here to kill me?"
"What can I say? You're worth a lot of units."
"I sure hope so," Lannik said, snapping his fingers at the other goons standing around in the chamber. "Too bad you won't collect."
A small group of thugs both human and rodian alike stepped forth and held me at gunpoint while Reelo and Lannik calmly strolled out. I cursed myself for being so stupid. Why didn't I just walk in blasting? As two of the reasons I came here vanished out of sight, I decided that now might be a good time to think of something clever. But of course, my mind went blank as one of the henchman stepped forth.
