Seeing How Immortals Live

Commander's Personnel Log Stardate: 41590.5

I had left the Enterprise for a total of 24 standard earth hours with Q. Yet, I arrived back at the exact moment that I had departed and no one knew that I had left.

The Continuum was everything and anything that we Q's wanted, desired, or needed. When I first arrived and before becoming the center of attention I could tell that 99.9% of the Continuum was made up of nothing. It was only that 0.1 % that made the Continuum something more, and only because any single Q would will it to be so. We were everywhere and anywhere at any given moment.

I could feel that my body was no longer solid. My mind had become limitless and could direct my attention to not only anywhere that I needed it to be, but on several different planes of reality at once. As soon as I was noticed, at once and without strenuous effort I could detect the Q that had taken control and molded the Continuum to her desired specifications. I could tell that the only thing that excited this Q was the chance to meet a new Q that was once human and not the opulence of the environment before her.

Never before had I seen anything so breathtakingly beautiful and serene in my entire life. Thousands of stars and worlds behind and all around 30 thrones, positioned around each throne were landscapes, each a unique work of art and below the feet of the thrones were majestic and thunderous waterfalls that flowed through and around the universe.

"This meeting has been called to order, please be silent while we learn about our newest member."

Walking over to the throne I knew without a doubt was mine; I sat and waited for all to gather. When I first arrived only 12 Q's were present. Yet as soon as the meeting was called to order, throughout the universes the remaining 18 Q's appeared on their thrones simultaneously.

"Hello, I go by the name William Riker to my human friends, but here I am "Q" I will share my experiences and everything that I am with you, my new extended family."

"Thank you Q. We are happy to receive you and in return we grant you the same gifts that you bring to your entire fellow Q."

It had taken just a moment, but that moment seemed to stretch an eternity. Sharing everything about myself and receiving everything from my new family helped me to not feel so alone in the universe. I felt apart of everything and especially apart of the Continuum. I knew our responsibilities, joys, and troubles. I shared my happiness and goals. I didn't realize I was chosen to help the Q until that moment, but I was happy to be able to help them.

So what you may ask do you give a being that has everything, and knows everything? I gave myself, to become a member of their family and a companion throughout all eternity. Life is tedious when you have seen and done everything, but seeing the universe through new eyes gives the older Q's something to look forward to, someone that they can pass their limitless knowledge onto.

Inadvertently I had solved a serious problem the Q was having. The Continuum needed new families to be formed in order to continue growing. They were overtaxed in their responsibilities even with their limitless powers. Simply put the universe was expanding but the Q were not multiplying to meet the expansion. It seems that there were some candidates from several races that was already suppose to have become a part of the continuum but something profound changed their course and I was to rectify this change and bring the candidates to the continuum.

It was pass time for the older Q's to move on to the next plane that was even higher than the Q plane. The Q Queen was leaving my new mother in charge it was her turn to rule beside my father. Only 5 of the 30 Q's were staying to help my mother with her new co-rule. Q my new mother, Q my new father, Q my mother's sister, Q my father's brother and Q myself as their new son and nephew. Just 5 Q's left to start over, once the older Q's left this plane we would still be family but we wouldn't be seeing them much until it was our turn to move pass the Q plane. It had been over 3 million of our human years before any new members had joined the Continuum. I had just given the Q that which every sentient being needs most; understanding, love and someone to share their lives with.

It is beyond words to describe the relationships I have formed with my family. I had always wanted loving parents and with the Q I found them. Father and Mother supported me even when we did not always see eye to eye. I was a new Prince old enough to explore the Universe and young enough to cause them problems. My Uncle and Aunt was around to hide me and be the comic relief I needed before I faced Father and Mother's loving wrath. Being a new-born Q was like going through childhood all over again. Learning the limits I could push myself and the consequences of when I did wrong, often time not only affected me but the Universe and the Q's place in it. I learned responsibility on a new level most humans would never have to experience. The amazing gift to hold worlds in the palm of your hands came with the cold hard truth of the terror one wrong move could make. A single wayward thought would wipe out civilizations. I had family on the Enterprise, but this was my home. A home I knew would always be there. In the 24 standard earth hours I was gone I had spent Twenty-six years in the continuum. I had grown up, become a different man, would my fellow teammates recognize the new me. I didn't want to go back to the old me, I liked the new man I had grown into.
