Chapter II
Sirius's P.O.V
''Sirius, Sirius! Wake up!'' a distant voice said. ''What?'' I said disorientated, not opening my eyes. ''We're going to be late for our first lesson!'' the voice said panicky. I shot upright, ''What's the time.'' I asked quickly looking around. ''It's a quarter past nine, we all forgot to set our alarm clocks!''
I recognized Remus's voice and saw the other two boys dressing up as quickly as they could. I jumped out of bed and opened my trunk, ''What lesson do we have first?'' I asked when I pulled my Hogwarts robes over my head. ''Transfiguration from Professor McGonagall.'' James replied panicky. I quickly took my bag out of my trunk and pushed the Transfiguration book into it. ''What do we have after Transfiguration?''
''Double Herbology, Charms and Potions.'' replied Remus with a confused look on his face ''You lost something?'' I asked pausing my stressing to look at him, ''I can't find my Charms book.'' he said crouching in front of his trunk. ''It's on your bedside table.'' I said pointing at the small wooden table next to his bed. Remus looked around and took the book from the table. I turned to continue packing, and stressing, ''Double Herbology, Charms and Potions.'' I muttered while searching my trunk. ''Don't forget your quill, ink and parchment.'' Peter squealed. I quickly took a bottle with ink, my quill and some rolls of parchment and stowed them into my bag.
''Done.'' I said when I managed to zip my bag shut. ''Me too.'' said Remus, who swung his bag on his back. James did the same and walked toward me, ''Come on Peter!'' I said panicky. I looked at my watch, ''We're already five minutes late!"' I exclaimed. ''Alright, I'm done.'' he said quickly zipping his bag shut. ''Well let's go then!'' James said. He reached out for the door knob and threw the door open.
They dashed through the Gryffindor common room out of the portrait hole and down the marble staircase. ''Do you guys know where it is?'' James asked looking around. ''To be fair, I don't have the slightest idea.'' Sirius replied panicky. He looked at Remus because he used to know this kind of things. ''Me neither.'' Remus said quickly.
''I think it's that way.'' Peter said pointing at a corridor which led outside. Sirius looked around and saw something pearly-white and slightly transparent at the end of the corridor. ''A ghost!'' he said to the others. ''Let's ask him where the Transfiguration classroom is.'' Remus suggested confidently. He walked toward the ghost and turned to look at his friends, no one had moved. ''What's wrong?'' he asked. ''I don't know, maybe it's the Bloody Baron.'' Sirius said uncertain. ''So? We have to ask or we'll be put in detention on our first day!'' Remus said frustrated.
''Fine! I'll go myself.'' he said annoyed when no one replied or moved. He turned around and walked toward the slightly transparent, pearly-white ghost. ''Excuse me.'' he said softly, ''Can you help us?'' he asked, ''We're lost.''
''Well of course can I help you. Where do you need to be?'' the ghost asked. ''The Transfiguration classroom, sir.'' replied Remus relieved. ''It's at the end of the corridor, up the stairs, then the first left, it's the fourth door on the right.'' the ghost said in one breath. ''At the end of the corridor, up the stairs, first left, fourth door on the right.'' Remus repeated after him. ''Thank you.'' he said before turning around and walking back to his friends. ''I know where it is.'' he said when he was in his friends their earshot. ''Follow me.''
Remus led them to the end of the corridor, up the stairs, the first turn they took was left, then they walked towards the fourth door on the right. ''This is it.'' Remus said pointing at the door. ''Well? What are you waiting for?'' Sirius asked impatiently, he walked toward the door and placed his hand on the door knob. He turned, but the door didn't open. He pushed against it, but the door still didn't open. ''It's locked.'' he said taking a step backwards. ''Let me take care of this.'' Remus said stepping forward. He took out his wand, and crouched in front of the lock. ''If you're going to try and pick the lock with the tip of your wand, it doesn't work. I already tried that one before.'' Sirius said watching his friend. ''Wait,'' Remus said turning to his friend, ''You actually tried to pick a lock with the tip of your wand?'' he asked unbelievably, ''Why would you do that?''
''I don't know, I had to try something.'' Sirius said defending himself. ''Never mind.'' Remus said turning back to the lock, ''Alohomora.'' he whispered flicking his wand. They heard a soft click, and the door slowly opened inwards. ''How did you do that?'' Sirius asked with a gaping mouth. ''I tried some spells at home. Standard book of spells chapter three.'' Remus said pocketing his wand. Sirius grinned, and then stepped inside. ''I'm sorry Professor McGonagall, we were…'' he trailed off.
They didn't see what they expected, they expected to see a classroom full of people and Professor McGonagall with a stern look on her face. Instead of these things they saw a small table in the middle of the room. ''This isn't the Transfiguration classroom.'' James said softly looking around. Remus didn't seem to hear him, he walked towards the table without really moving on purpose, he felt frustrated and annoyed, but he also wanted to see what was on the table. His legs moved without him wanting to, his hand reached out without him doing anything, it all went automatically as if someone was controlling his body. ''Remus? Are you alright?'' Sirius asked walking toward his friend.
''Guys, what's this?'' he asked when he saw a piece of parchment on the table. He picked it up, and examined it. James appeared at his shoulder, "Let me see that." he said taking the parchment from him. He held it up to the light, probably hoping it would have a watermark or something. "I have a certain feeling we shouldn't be here." Peter said uncomfortable, "You're right, we'll come back later." James said handing the parchment back to Remus, who stowed it into his bag. "We have to find the Transfiguration classroom."
They left the room and returned to the Entrance Hall. "I've got an idea." James said suddenly, "You remember Hagrid?" he asked the others. They nodded, "Let's go ask him." James said. "He lives in that small hut near the Forbidden Forest." Remus said pointing at the Grounds.
They quickly walked onto the Grounds. "Where was it?" Peter asked panicky, "There." Sirius replied pointing at a small stone cabin near the edge of the forest. He walked towards it, and knocked on the door. "Hagrid?" Remus asked when no one responded to his knocks.
''Who is it?'' a voice from the inside called. ''Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. We would like to ask you something.'' Remus replied.
The door creaked open, and in the doorway stood, Hagrid. ''What did yeh want to ask me?'' he asked. ''We're lost, and can't find the Transfiguration classroom.'' James explained. Hagrid watched them suspiciously with his glinting black like beetle eyes. ''Why? Everyone had been led to their lessons after breakfast.''
''Yeah, that's where it went wrong for us. We forgot to set our alarm clocks.'' Sirius said feeling his face reddening. ''Right.'' Hagrid replied, ''Well, it isn't very hard to find. It's the third door at the left wall from the Entrance Hall.'' Hagrid said looking at the castle.
''Thank you,'' said Remus with a quick smile. Hagrid nodded, and closed the door. ''Well, we're already twenty minutes too late, why can't we just skip it?'' Sirius asked annoyed. ''Sirius, come on! Professor McGonagall is our head of house, and we can't just skip our first lesson ever!'' said Remus shocked. ''You're right.'' Sirius replied seriously, ''Let's go or we'll have an even bigger problem.''
At this Peter squealed, ''I don't want to have detention.'' he said panicky. ''Me neither,'' said James, ''So let's go.''
The four of them quickly set off toward the castle, ''What do you think about, 'I'm sorry Professor McGonagall one of us was locked up in the bathroom and the rest of us had to get him out.''' Sirius suggested grinning. ''No one would believe that excuse, my friend.'' said James laughing. ''Why don't we just tell her the truth. It's the first day, so maybe she'll go easy on us.'' suggested Remus. ''That's a possibility, but I prefer my excuse.'' Sirius said grinning.
They entered the Entrance Hall and walked towards the door, Hagrid said, led to the Transfiguration classroom. ''Truth or lie?'' Sirius asked before he opened the door. ''Truth.'' Remus said, but he was the only one, because Peter and James both said 'Lie'. ''Fine, go ahead. If she'll give us detention, I'll blame you.'' Remus said turning to Sirius. Sirius grinned, ''I can live with that.'' he said before he turned the door knob.
They entered the classroom, and found themselves in the middle of at least fifteen staring people, ''Where have you been?'' Professor McGonagall's voice rang out through the classroom. ''Erhm,''
''Peter was stuck in the bathroom, and we had to help him get out of it.'' Sirius said quickly. ''Do you think I'll believe that?'' Professor McGonagall asked sternly. ''Is that true, Pettigrew?'' she asked looking at Peter. The boys turned around to look at Peter, who was shaking madly. ''Y- y- yes Professor.'' he replied shakily. She eyed them suspiciously, ''Sit down, and open your books at page six.'' she said not looking away. They walked towards two empty desks and sat down. Sirius looked at Professor McGonagall who was still watching them. They took out their books and opened them at page six.
''Professor?'' James asked, hand raising. ''Yes, Potter?''
''The book says we have to transform beetles into buttons, but how do we do that? There isn't an incantation on the page.'' he said examining the page. ''That's right, because you're not going to do magic in this lesson yet.'' she said. ''You'll first study the properties of a beetle, then you can start using magic on them. It's the basic of every transfiguration to know the animal, or object, you're practising on.'' she explained. ''This is what I've told your classmates in the half hour you weren't here.''
''I'm sorry, Professor.'' James said looking down. ''You better be.'' she said stern again. ''We will continue the lesson,'' she said. ''As you see…''
The rest of the lesson Professor McGonagall had been talking about beetles while the class was supposed to make notes. But most of the students had a hard time concentrating, so every time Professor McGonagall turned around to write something on the blackboard, the class ended up throwing stuff at each other.
''This was your first Transfiguration lesson, but that doesn't take away the fact this is a school. So next week I want an essay of fifteen inches about the properties of a beetle, and which are important when you want to transfigure them into a button.'' Professor McGonagall said writing everything on the blackboard. Sirius quickly threw a lump of parchment toward the red haired girl, ''I saw that, Black!'' Professor McGonagall said sternly turning around. ''What?'' Sirius asked innocently, ''That'll be five points taken from Gryffindor, and if you'll do it again, I will have to put you in detention.'' she said looking down at him, ''Class dismissed.''
They walked out of the classroom and walked into the Entrance Hall. ''Sirius, you're a genius. Seriously.'' James said grinning at his friend when they left the classroom. ''I know.'' Sirius replied smirking wickedly. ''I guess, it was funny.'' Remus said uneasy, ''Remember the underwear from my mom I told you about in the train?'' James asked, trying to change the subject. ''Yeah, why?'' Sirius asked. ''Because, I think it accidently dropped into my trunk. It's upstairs in our dormitory.'' James replied smirking. ''You're kidding?'' Sirius said unbelievably. ''Nope, I'm serious.'' James said smirking. ''No, you're not, I'm Sirius.'' Sirius said seriously. They burst into laughs, even Remus. ''Seriously, what's wrong with us?'' he asked through hiccups. ''I don't know, but we got too less of me, seriousness.'' replied Sirius, not being able to control his laughter.
Several minutes later, they were walking across the school grounds towards the Greenhouses. They followed their class and stopped in front of Greenhouse one. The door opened and a rather small witch stepped out of the greenhouse. ''Good Morning, class!'' she said gleefully, ''It's always so nice to see new students, every year.'' she said.
Her hair was gray and her eyes dark brown. ''I am, Professor Nanaphima.'' she said beaming at each and every one of them. Her eye seemed to linger on Remus, but quickly proceeded when he looked at her. ''I'm sure we'll all have a wonderful year,'' she said. ''I think she's a bit too cheerful, and who'd call his daughter Nanaphima?'' Sirius whispered to James, who snorted in response.
Professor Nanaphima looked at him, ''Something funny, Mr. Potter?'' she asked with a small smile, ''No, Professor.'' James said, straightening his face. ''We all like to laugh, so why won't you tell us what's so funny?'' she said pushy. James said the first thing he could think of, which was, ''I've done a magic trick when I was six.''
''Oh, interesting. And what was it about?''
''Nothing.'' James said quickly. He felt his cheeks reddening. ''With a mandrake.'' Sirius said quickly, before James would be more humiliated. ''Interesting, well let's start with the lesson.'' Professor Nanaphima said, ripping her gaze off the boys. They had to, just like in the Transfiguration lesson, take notes on a plant called, 'Devil's snare.'.
''That's it for today's lesson. Since it's the first day of term, I won't give you any homework.'' she said smiling at all students. ''Class dismissed.''
The class left the greenhouses and set off towards the Great Hall for lunch. ''I'm starving!'' said Sirius, when he dropped his bag next to the wooden bench. He sat down and started filling up his plate. ''Why would that be?'' James asked ironically, ''Because, he didn't have anything for breakfast?'' Peter asked hopeful, ''Yeah, whatever. But Sirius's right, I'm starving too.'' James said dropping next to Sirius.
''What do we have next?'' Sirius asked through a mouthful of sausages, ''Charms and then Potions.'' Remus replied. ''Who's our Charms teacher anyway?'' James asked curiously, ''I thought it was Professor Toll.'' Remus replied checking his bag.
When they were done eating, they left the Great Hall and headed towards the Charms classroom, which was according to Professor McGonagall, at the third floor. ''Why...are...there...so...many...staircases?'' Peter asked through heavy breaths, when they arrived at the top of the third staircase. ''It's not that bad.'' Remus said turning around. ''I think you just don't have a good condition.'' replied Remus, who walked down the stairs a few steps to help Peter. ''Thank you.'' said Peter.
''No problem, we just shouldn't be too late again, or Professor McGonagall will put us in detention.'' Remus replied looking around. ''I think it's that one.'' he said pointing at a door next to a portrait of a woman in a white dress. They walked toward it and opened the door. To their relief, it was the Charms classroom. ''Welcome!'' a squeaky voice said. ''Welcome, to your first Charms lesson.''
They looked around and saw a small man standing on a pile of books. ''I'm Professor Toll, settle down and open your books on page five.'' the small man said. They sat down at the back of the classroom and opened their books on page five, ''Wingardium Leviosa?'' Peter asked, ''What does it do?''
''It's a spell to make an object float, Peter.'' Remus replied also opening his book on page five. ''Very good, Mr. Lupin.'' Professor Toll praised him. ''Sir, is it alright with you if I give Peter a small demonstration?'' Remus asked, when Peter still looked confused. ''Of course not, go ahead.'' he squeaked.
Remus took his wand out of his pocket and placed his quill on the table, ''Wingardium Leviosa.'' he said clearly. He flicked his wand and the feather rose up into the air. ''Wait, will I be able to do that too?'' Peter asked eyes widening. ''Yes, if you study and practise a lot you will be able to.'' said Professor Toll who had been watching them. ''But, if you can already do this spell, how many more can you do?'' Professor Toll asked excited. ''I can do, Alohomora, Lumos, Aguamenti, Petrificus Totalus and Reparo.'' Remus said looking at the Charms Professor. ''Can you give us some demonstrations?'' he asked excited. ''Of course, I don't see why not.'' Remus replied standing up.
''Lumos.'' he said. The tip of his wand lit up, ''Nox.'' he said. The light on the tip of his wand died away.
''I can't do aguamenti in here.'' he said turning to Professor Toll, who nodded in agreement.
''Who wants to be my target for the full body-bind-curse?'' he asked looking around at his classmates. No one volunteered, so Sirius stood up and walked towards him. ''Alright, as long as you know the counter-curse.'' he said grinning. Remus returned the grin and flicked his wand, ''Petrificus Totalus.''
Sirius's body stiffened, and fell down on the ground. ''Whoa! That was a very good demonstration, !'' Professor Toll said clapping. ''Thank you, Professor.'' Remus said blushing. He looked down at his petrified friend and quickly performed the counter-curse, ''Finite.'' he said pointing his wand at his friend.
"Much better when I'm able to move." Sirius said from the ground. Remus grinned down at him and helped him up. ''Are you alright?'' Remus asked before he walked back to his desk. ''Never better.'' Sirius replied grinning. ''Excellent! Excellent! We've got a natural in our class.'' Professor Toll said excited. ''Everyone study the pages about Wingardium Leviosa, I have to speak to this boy here.'' he said to the class, ''Follow me please.'' he said walking towards the door. ''We're be right back.'' he said before he closed the door.
Right from the moment when the door had closed, Professor Toll started talking, ''I can sense you're a natural at Charms. How would you like to learn some more advanced spells?'' he asked excited. ''Well, I do like challenges, I guess it could be fun.'' Remus replied smiling, ''Sure why not.''
''I'll discuss it with Professor Dumbledore, in the meantime you can study Revelio.'' he said excited. ''You can find it on page one hundred sixty three in the third year books, you can find one in the back of the class.''
He nodded curtly and walked away. Remus watched until Professor Toll had vanished out of his sight, and then entered the classroom again. He felt multiple eyes were watching him, it made him feel very uncomfortable, so he just walked towards a small pile of books at the back of the classroom and took one which said, 'Standard book of Spells grade three'. He walked to his desk and sat down next to his friends again, and opened the book at page one hundred and sixty three. ''What did he say?'' Sirius asked excited.
''He asked me if I would like to learn some more advanced charms, I accepted his offer, then he just walked away to discuss it with Professor Dumbledore.'' Remus said examining the pages of the book. ''Nice, dude.'' James said, giving him a friendly hit against his shoulder. ''Thank you.'' Remus said smiling at James. ''But wait, we have to learn Wingardium Leviosa now, but you already know it, so what are you going to do?'' Peter asked curiously.
Peter had grown more, and more comfortable when he was with the other boys. ''Professor Toll told me to study this spell.'' Remus replied, showing him the book. ''Revelio? But that's like, fourth grade level.'' Peter said his voice full of disbelief. ''Third, actually.'' Remus corrected him, looking down at his book again. ''Who cares? You're a charms legend, maybe we can even create our own jinxes.'' James said excited. ''Yeah, that actually sounds quite fun.'' Remus said focusing on the pages of his book.
Everyone studied the spell 'Wingardium Leviosa', even Sirius looked seriously interested in the spell. At the end of the lesson most of the people in class managed to make their quill levitate a few inches off the ground. Almost, everyone. It didn't matter how hard he tried, But Peter just couldn't do it. Remus looked up from his book, ''Show me how you wave your wand.'' he said when Peter's hundredth attempt also failed. ''Just show me your movements, you don't have to say the incantation.'' he said before Peter started.
Peter made some weird circle wave with his wand. ''Look Peter, I'll show you, copy everything I do.'' Remus said quickly before Peter would pinch someone's eye out. Remus moved his wand, and clearly said, ''Wingardium Leviosa'', he flicked his wand and pointed it at his quill, which rose into the air. Not just a few inches, ''That must be at least ten feet!'' a squeaky voice said. Remus turned to look at the doorway, and saw Professor Toll had returned, but not alone, ''Impressive.'' Dumbledore said thoughtful watching the quill. ''Nice work. I understand why you're suggesting Mr. Lupin should learn more advanced spells.'' he said turning to look down at Professor Toll.
''Everyone, just keep practising the spell, that's all for today, class dismissed.'' he said. Remus turned to place the spellbook back on the pile, and packed the rest of his books. When he turned to leave, Professor Toll held him back, ''Professor Dumbledore and I have to talk to you.'' he said softly. ''I'll catch up on you, guys.'' he said to his friends who where waiting by the door. They nodded and left the room.
Professor Toll started talking when he heard the door click shut, ''Professor Dumbledore and I have talked about what level would match you, but before we can say anything, you have to do some demonstrations.'' Professor Toll said to Remus, who listened carefully. ''Of course. I can show you Revelio, Professor. I think I get it.'' Remus said turning to Dumbledore. ''Sure, go ahead.'' Dumbledore said smiling. ''Alright, I need something to reveal. Professor Toll could you use a concealment charm on an object?'' Remus asked Professor Toll. He nodded and walked towards the pile of books and muttered a rather difficult incantation. The pile of books slowly vanished from sight. Professor Toll stepped backwards and Remus took a step closer to the pile of books. ''I haven't tried it yet, so I'm sorry if it won't work.'' Remus said, not wanting to fail in front of Dumbledore.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and made a rather difficult movement with his wand, he opened his eyes again, ''Revelio.'' he said clearly, flicking his wand.
He watched the pile of books, slowly become visible again. ''Yes!'' Remus muttered under his breath. ''See? This is exactly what I meant, not one or two books, just the whole pile at once!'' Professor Toll said excited. ''Well done, Remus.'' said Dumbledore smiling at the skinny, scarred boy. ''I think he ought to choose himself what he would like to learn.'' Dumbledore said still smiling. ''That's a very good idea. Oh wait, I've got some old spellbooks. You can use them if you would like. It contains extra spells, they weren't put in the standard spell books because they were too advanced.'' Professor Toll explained.
Remus wanted nothing more. Spells had always fascinated him, but he never thought he would even go to Hogwarts, so it felt like being a werewolf didn't make him inhumane. He felt like a normal kid, going to a school, having friends and talents made him feel better than he had felt in for over four years. ''Yes, I would like to do that, Professor.'' Remus said gleefully. ''I'll get it for you.'' Professor Toll said cheerful. ''Remus, before you go, I would like to talk to you in my office this afternoon at five o'clock.'' Dumbledore said softly, so Professor Toll wouldn't hear him.
Remus nodded and looked at Professor Toll. He was digging into a pile of old books, he pulled out an old leather bound book and handed it to Remus. ''Here you go. This book contains a lot of ancient spells and notes from famous wizards and witches.'' he said looking at the book. ''Thank you, Professor Toll. I won't let you down!'' Remus said proudly, ''I don't believe that's even possible.'' said Professor Toll smiling at Remus.
''Oh no! I'm too late.'' Remus said glancing at his watch. ''Don't worry, Remus. I'll make sure Professor Slughorn won't blame you for it.'' Dumbledore said smiling, ''If you'll follow me.'' he said beckoning to the door. He smiled at Professor Toll, and walked towards the door. ''Thank you, Professor.'' Remus said quickly before he followed Professor Dumbledore. Dumbledore opened the door and walked into the corridor. ''Thank you!'' Remus said again before he closed the door behind him.
''What do you think about Hogwarts up to now?'' Dumbledore asked, when Remus caught up with him. ''It's wonderful. I'm so glad I decided to come,'' he said gleeful. ''but, I'm afraid what will happen if I transform.'' he said softly. ''Don't worry about that. It'll be alright.'' Dumbledore said reassuringly. Remus was delighted he'd got the chance to attend Hogwarts, but he was afraid he would hurt people. Dumbledore led him to the dungeons and knocked on a door. ''Yes?'' a voice from the inside asked. Dumbledore opened the door, and walked into the room, Remus followed him. He looked around and saw a man with brown hair standing in front of a class, ''Professor Dumbledore,'' the man said surprised. ''Hello, Horace.'' Dumbledore replied smiling, ''I had to talk to Mr. Lupin, here. That's why he's late.'' Dumbledore said softly. ''Of course,'' the man in front of the class said. ''Sit down.'' he said warmly, turning to Remus.
Remus nodded, and turned around to look for his friends. Just as before, he found them in the backseats of the classroom. He walked towards their table, and sat down next to Sirius. ''What did they say?'' he asked, turning to his friend. ''Nothing, just about my Charms, stuff like that. Nothing important.'' Remus replied taking out his Potions book. ''Nothing important? What did they say, what are you going to do?'' James asked curiously. ''Professor Toll is going to teach me advanced spells.'' Remus replied, opening his potions book at page seven. ''What do you mean, advanced spells?'' Sirius asked. ''I mean, Professor Toll gave me a spellbook full of spells which were too advanced for the standard spellbooks.'' Remus replied turning to his friend, ''Wait, you're going to learn spells no one, except maybe Dumbledore, can do?'' James asked unbelievably. ''Yes.'' Remus replied, turning to look at Dumbledore who was talking to the man in front the class, ''That's cool!'' Peter said excited. ''Well, I do like Charms.'' Remus said softly, his lips curling into a small grin.
Professor Dumbledore turned around, and walked towards the door. ''Good luck!'' he said cheerful before he closed the door. ''Mr. Lupin, I see you've already found the right page. I'm Professor Slughorn, and head of Slytherin house.'' the man said smiling at him. ''You're supposed to read the pages about the Wit-sharpening potion.'' Professor Slughorn said.
Remus nodded and took his quill, a roll of parchment and his bottle of ink. He started reading the chapter about the Wit-sharpening potion, but was interrupted by Sirius. ''Did you learn Revelio?''
''Yes.'' Remus replied, not looking up from his book. He had a certain feeling Sirius just didn't want to read the pages and tried to amuse himself.
When Remus showed no interest in what he said, Sirius took out a small piece of parchment, and wrote something on it. He tapped on a girl's shoulder in front of him. She turned around with a questioning look on her face, ''Can you hand this to that boy?'' he asked, handing her the parchment and pointing at Severus. She nodded and took the parchment, she gave it to someone in front of her, who gave it to Severus. He read the parchment, Sirius saw he stiffened. He grinned, and finally started reading the chapter he was supposed to read.
''Your homework will be a small essay from about three hundred words, about the Wit-sharpening potion and its use.'' Professor Slughorn said when everyone started packing their bags, ''Class dismissed.''
The class left the dungeons and set off towards the Great Hall to make homework. ''I have to talk to Professor Dumbledore at five o'clock.'' Remus said when they sat down at the table. The other three boys looked at him. ''Why?'' James asked, when he took his books out of his bag. ''Charms.'' Remus replied blankly. He didn't feel comfortable when he lied to his friends, but he would do everything to keep his secret a secret. ''That's fine with me, but me and James have discussed it, and we think we should return to that room where you found that parchment.'' Sirius said seriously, ''So, when I'm talking with Dumbledore, you guys want to investigate the room?''
Sirius nodded. ''But it's probably locked. And no one but me can do Alohomora.'' Remus said softly. ''That's true.'' James said disappointed, ''But I guess I can unlock it on my way to Dumbledore's office.'' Remus said thoughtfully, ''Yeah, you know, I actually hoped you'd say that.'' Sirius said grinning. Remus rolled his eyes and started on his Transfiguration essay.
At ten to five the boys set off towards the first floor. They turned left, and walked towards the fourth door on the right. Remus crouched in front of the door, ''Alohomora.'' he muttered. The lock clicked softly, ''Have fun.'' Remus said when he stuffed his wand back into his pocket. ''Thank you, you too.'' Sirius replied, grinning his usual grin. Remus nodded curtly, watched his friends enter the room, and set off towards the seventh floor.
Remus P.O.V
I already knew why Professor Dumbledore wanted to talk to me, my first transformation. It would be full moon in a few days, and I knew I had to think of a really good excuse, because I don't expect not to be in the Hospital wing for at least one day after my transformation.
I walked through the corridor to the stone gargoyle Dumbledore told me about, ''Choco-loco.'' I said to the gargoyle, ''Visiting Dumbledore?'' the gargoyle asked when he stepped aside and revealed a hole in the wall with a spiral staircase leading up. I nodded, not wanting to talk about it, I quickly stepped into the hole, and started climbing the stairs. I could hear the gargoyle return in front of the hole behind me. When I reached the top of the stairs, I found myself looking at a wooden door. I walked toward it and knocked a few times. ''Come in.'' I heard Dumbledore's voice say from the inside. I opened the door and walked inside. Dumbledore was bend over his desk, ''Ah, Remus.'' Dumbledore said looking up.
He took his wand and flicked it, a chair popped out of thin air, ''Sit down.'' Dumbledore said smiling. I walked towards the chair and sat down. ''I think you already know why you're here.'' Dumbledore said softly. I nodded, ''I already thought you did, well anyway, I found a way for you to transform without being a danger to other people.'' Dumbledore said more serious. I felt my hope lift, I had been thinking about some things I could do, but none of them seemed very safe. ''Do you remember the tree I was talking about yesterday after the feast?''
I nodded, ''Well it's planted on a tunnel which leads towards a house in Hogsmeade. The house is abandoned, so it will be safe for everyone if you'll transform there.'' Dumbledore said smiling at me. ''But, what if anyone sees me, or if someone in Hogsmeade enters the house while I'm in there, as a wolf.'' I asked anxiously, ''Don't worry about that. Everyone in the village is terribly afraid of the house.'' Dumbledore replied reassuringly. I nodded curtly, ''I know you don't want to tell your friends, and I understand. But don't blame yourself if they find out.'' Dumbledore said softly as if he was reading my mind. ''How did you know?'' I asked surprised. ''We'll never know.'' Dumbledore replied smiling.
After ten more minutes of talking about what would happen when Remus transformed, he stood up and walked to the door, ''Thank you, Professor Dumbledore.'' Remus said turning around. ''You're welcome. Everyone deserves to be educated.'' Dumbledore replied softly. Remus smiled, and turned around. He opened the wooden door and walked toward the spiral staircase.
''Password?'' the fat lady in the portrait asked.
''Qhib.'' Remus said when he stood in front of the portrait which led to the Gryffindor common room. The portrait swung forward, Remus entered the hole in the wall. He didn't feel very cheerful after the reminder he would transform in two days.
Right from the moment he had stepped into the room, he was bombarded with comments and questions by Sirius and James. ''Where were you, you have to see what we've found, what did Dumbledore say, what's going to happen with you when…''
Remus hold his breath, hoping they would not say what he feared most.
''you have exams at Charms…''
''Guys, please!'' Remus said grinning, and relieved Sirius hadn't said what he feared. ''You said you found something?'' he asked turning to James, who nodded excitedly, ''You have to see it!''
''But first we'll have dinner.'' Sirius said grinning. ''Is there a moment you're not thinking about food?'' James asked annoyed. ''Yes of course! Erhm, actually no.'' he said his broad grin returning. ''You're right, though. I'm pretty hungry too, so let's get going.'' said James. ''Coming Peter?'' Remus asked turning to the boy sitting in one of the squashy chairs by the fire. ''Yes, I'm coming.'' he said standing up.
The four of them walked towards the Great Hall where every meal took place. ''So, what've we got for dinner today?'' Sirius asked looking up and down the table. ''I can see, mashed potatoes, steak, carrots and some other vegetables.'' James said sitting down on the wooden bench.
They started eating, ''What did you guys find?'' Remus asked after several minutes. ''You'll see.'' Sirius replied through a mouthful of food. Remus rolled his eyes and focused back on his food. ''Why can't you just tell me?'' he asked desperately. ''Because, we don't want other people to know about it too.'' James replied.
When they finished their food, the four of them set off towards the locked room. ''So,'' Sirius said when they climbed the stairs. ''what did Dumbledore say?''
''Nothing, just charms. I told you multiple times, Sirius.'' Remus said annoyed. It felt bad to lie to his friends, but if they would know, he wouldn't have any left. ''Yes, but he must've said more.'' Sirius said pushy. ''Please, I don't want to talk about it.'' Remus said uncomfortable. ''Fine, suit yourself.'' said Sirius.
''Alohomora.'' whispered Remus. The lock clicked, and slowly opened inwards. The sky had darkened, and so had the room, ''Lumos.'' whispered Remus. The tip of his wand slightly lit up. ''So, what did you want to show me?'' he whispered turning to his friends. ''There,'' James said pointing at the back wall, ''What?'' Remus asked turning around. ''Examine the wall,'' he said still pointing. ''Why? Can't you just tell me?'' Remus asked. He turned around and walked towards the wall when he received no answer, ''And what am I…'' he trailed of. his eye had caught something on the wall. The texture of the wall wasn't right, ''That's weird, it's like these walls don't match each other.'' Remus said confused. A thought popped up in his mind, ''Revelio.'' he whispered, his wand pointing at the wall.
''Woah,'' Sirius said surprised when some of the bricks slowly faded. ''Concealing spell, Professor Toll told me about it.'' Remus said turning to his friends. His spell had made the wall vanish, and led to a small, dark room, ''What do you think will be in there?'' Peter asked shaking. ''I don't know, but I want to see it.'' James said excited, ''Maybe there's loads and loads of gold and jewels in there.'' Sirius said thoughtful, ''Or maybe one of the newest broomsticks.'' James said dreamily, ''Or maybe books with ancient spells and knowledge.'' Remus said turning back to the room. ''Or a troll.'' Peter said shakely. The other three turned toward him, ''Peter, I don't think a troll will fit into that room.'' Sirius said reassuringly, ''Even if there's a troll in there, I want to see what else.'' James said walking towards the hole. ''Me too.'' Sirius said, quickly following his friend. ''What do you think, Peter?'' Remus asked turning to Peter, ''You're coming?''
''Alright, alright, I'll come.'' he squeaked, and quickly followed his friends into the dark room.
Author's note: HI THERE! I'm such a happy person today, and that says something, because today was one of the worst of my life. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the second chapter of the Marauders Origins. I know Remus Lupin was better at Defence Against The Dark Arts than Charms, but I though if he would be the best at charms, I could do more in the story. Anyway, this was it for me. See you next time, BYE!(*⌒▽⌒*)θ
