Chapter 2

"Recognized Batman A01"

"Team, report to the mission room" Batman said over the intercom.

"Looks like Bats has got a mission for us, I was bored of this game anyway," said Wally as he and Robin put down their controllers and walked to the mission room.

"It's more like you were bored of losing at that game," Rob laughed. As they walked into the mission room, they saw that Kaldur and Artemis had already arrived; Batman was standing next to the computer, ready to debrief them on their latest assignment. Moments later Superboy and Megan walk in holding hands. When he saw them Wally nudged Robin pointed at them and giggled behind his hand. Rob rolled his eyes, a faint smile on his face.

"Listen up team, Bane is causing trouble in Central City; you are to find out what he is doing there. I don't expect you to be able to capture him, In fact, it's probably better if you do not encounter him face to face, your main priority is to gather Intel on his operation and. Megan, Superboy, and Kalder, you will go in on the bio ship while Wally and Artemis will be on the ground. Suit up and leave immediately. And remember this is a covert operation, so please be discreet"

"What about Robin?" asked M'egan?

"Robin and I have other matters to attend to"

"Oh man, I totally forgot about that," said Rob "do I have to go?"

"Yes, you have to come, get your things and we will leave"

"But, I'm the only one with firsthand experience with Bane; I would be a lot more use on the mission." Rob said with a hopeful smile on his face

"Get your things, and let's go," replied Batman as he turned and started for the zeta tubes "Now"

"Fine" Robin gave in not wanting to argue much with his mentor in front of the team. He went and picked up his laptop, phone, and the other things that he brought with him to mount justice, then went to go catch up with Batman by the zeta tubes. As he was walking through the hall, he felt a breeze from behind him and suddenly Kid Flash was walking next to him, dressed in his yellow and red Uniform

"So, where are Bats and the Boy Wonder going tonight?" Kid Flash asked, "You usually don't mind missing a mission to go do things with Batman."

"That's because what we're doing tonight isn't as the dynamic duo, I'm not Robin all the time you know," He answered smirking at his best friend.

"I know, it's just that whenever we're with you your Mr. Shades, I don't even know your real name, and I'm your best friend."

"Sorry about that Wally, but if I told you who I was it wouldn't be that hard to figure out who Batman is, and he doesn't want too many people knowing. And don't ask me why because I can't tell you."

"Its ok man, I get it, we all have secret identities. Well I'll see you around Rob"

"Yeah, see ya, Wally." Robin said to the empty place next to him were Wally had been only seconds before. As he walked the rest of the way to the zeta tubes Rob thought about how much he wanted to tell his friends who he really was. He wanted them to know him not a disguise that only showed his outside, and even then not all of it. But he was also afraid. What if they thought of him differently, or treated him differently, if they found out that he was Dick Grayson, the young ward of the richest man in Gotham, Bruce Wayne. He also understood why Bruce didn't want many people to know who he was, if the wrong people found out that Batman was Bruce Wayne, It would be a chain reaction of catastrophes that only led to the people they cared about getting hurt. That was why he never pushed the subject of revealing his identity to the team.

Batman was waiting for robin at the zeta tubes looking as intimidating as ever, it had taken Robin a little longer to go get his things than he thought it would, Batman assumed he had stopped to talk to Wally or one of the other young heroes. Rob walked in with a troubled expression on his face. Batman notices that something is troubling his protégé and as they step out of the zeta tube and into the Bat Cave, he asked, "Is something troubling you Dick."

Robin looks up at the Dark Knight who had now removed his cowl. He quickly disguised his troubled expression "No, it's nothing" he smiled.

"You know that you can always talk to me," Bruce said, looking at the young boy with tenderness that few have had the privilege of witnessing.

"I know Bruce, I guess I'm just bummed I have to miss the mission to go to another charity banquet. What is this one for anyways?

"It is for people to donate to the Gotham police department, I think commissioner Gordon is bringing Barbra with him, so you won't be too bored,"

"If she's there it won't be too bad I guess, they are usually so boring; Just a bunch of rich people gossiping about other rich people."

"Yes indeed, and I do believe that if you two do not go and get dressed now you will end up being quite late, and not in a fashionable way." said Alfred as he walked in to the Bat Cave. "I have laid out both of your evening wear on your beds"

"Ok Alfred, were going" said Dick as he ran up to the manor and to his room to change.

"Alfred, something is bothering him, other than having to go to the banquet." Bruce said turning to Alfred.

"I'm sure that he will talk to you when he is ready, now please Master Bruce go and change or you will be late."

"Ok, Alfred I'm going" Bruce said smiling at his long time butler, friend and father figure, "But let me know if he mentions anything to you."

"Of course Master Bruce."
