In the morning Cloud stands over the sleeping woman. His face is impassive as he holds vigil, watching her chest rise and fall with every even breath. Sometime in the night the covers had slid off, leaving her body exposed to the cold. He notices her mouth is curved into a small smile. The sight of it pulls his into a frown.

He hates her feelings.

Despises them and cursed them. Every day, from the time they wake up to when they climb in bed, he can see them reflected in her eyes. She is so transparent. While he fluctuates between emotions, she never bothers concealing her affections that despite the others calling him thick, calling him dense, he knows. And it hurts him.

The floor board creaks as Cloud bends down to gather the quilt favoring his sore arm. When she shows no sign of stirring, he tenderly draws the covers over her shoulders, tucks it in warmly then turns to leave, his need to relieve his guilt somehow satisfied with the act. He is halfway to the door when he hears the rustling of clothes behind him.

"Where are you going?"

Tifa's eyes burn like rubies in the dim light, full of passion but he sees now, almost happily, the embers are dying. A part of him chokes. Luckily the numbness keeps his voice ruthlessly cool. "Dunno."

Undeterred, she asks him more questions and each one Cloud answers brusquely. He wants her to give up but she is stubborn. He cares for her but the decision had to be carried out. He will not endanger his family.

"Are you coming back?" No.

"Dunno."

He hates her feelings.

AN: Since its been five long years since they released the movie - I wanna sequel! - I hope the ending wasn't a spoiler. This one was a bit melancholy. Maybe the rain is affecting my mood.
