I was listening to Undisclosed Desires by Muse when I wrote this
So far we've been in this town for about 4 days. I haven't left the property due to all the unpacking. It was mainly my mother, brother, and I since dad had to go inspect a crime scene. In all this time, the farthest I've gotten is the gate in the backyard that separates us from the lake. I haven't seen any locals other than the boys who were outside my gate the local delivery boys. Today I decided that I was going to check out the city with Wayne and our golden retriever Patrick Bateman. I really like the movie and the book American Psycho so I named him after my favorite character but I call him Pat for short plus people don't question it when they hear Pat. My parents got us a dog to compensate for our lack of friends. It's not that I never made any, I just never stayed friends with people We've had him since he was a puppy and he was fully grown now. I kinda sucked because I used to love carrying him everywhere but now he's too heavy. Pat however hasn't fully accepted the whole too heavy thing and still tries to jump in my arms. Despite that character flaw, he's a pretty good dog. My father trained him like a police dog so he was happy as long as we took him. That's just for now until he does some extensive research on the people in town.
We walked for maybe 20 minutes until we reached the main part of town. There were a couple pawn shops, thrifty clothes stores, a super market, a book store and a music store. Wayne and I tied Pat to a street pole then headed into the music store. I played guitar and was very passionate about music. We looked trough CD's and records of all genres. I picked up a Red Hot Chilli Peppers, a Erykah Badu, and a Joe Bonamassa CD. As I was picking through the rock section I noticed that on the other side of the aisle was one of the boys that stood outside of my gate not too long ago. He was my height with short sandy hair. He wore a faded red shirt with a pair of blue jeans. The boy was pretty cute, even with all the acne that littered his cheeks and forehead. I couldn't judge because I just got over that severe acne stage, and boy was it severe. I must have been staring at him for quite sometime because he looked up and met my gaze. Poor boy was so nervous he just tensed up, gave me a tight lipped smile, then looked back to the CD in his hand. In the quick second that he looked at me I saw that this boy had very nice pale blue eyes.
"What you got?" I asked. Once again he tensed up before he stuttered out Metallica's album 'Kill 'Em All'. "Nice choice. I wish I could play like them." I was hoping for some reply but instead I just received another tight lipped smile.
"I saw you by my house a few days ago. I'm Angelica but you could call me Angel." I said extending my hand for a shake. After a moment of hesitation he shook it and said "I'm Daryl. Yeah..um...I'm sorry 'bout that. Ya' know...uh standin' outside your house and all. I uh just wanted to know who the new neighbors were an all. I..." As cute as it was to watch him squirm I decided to stop him before he said something too embarrassing.
"It's fine Daryl. I'd do the exact same if I were you." Relief washed over Daryl and a small grin began to form but was hidden when he looked down to the album in his hand. "So what do you do for fun around here?"
"I uh usually ride my bike with my friends. I go hunting with my brother or noodling."
"Noodling?"
"It's um... hand fishing. I caught a catfish 8ft long and 90lbs." I smilled brightly at him. "That sounds awesome. I love catfish, fried catfish especially. You know, there's a lake behind my house, maybe I could catch some other fish in there." As much as I wanted to continue this conversation it seemed like I was pushing Daryl so I said goodbye and bought the CD's I had before leaving with my brother.
Wayne glanced back at the doors of the store, "Who was that you were talking to?"
"That was Daryl. I saw a Metallica album in his hand and just asked him about it." I replied nonchalantly and untied Pat from the pole then walked off down the street.
"That's a little weird because last time I checked, the Ice Queen barely spoke to the opposite sex." I punched Wayne in his side. He is such an idiot. "You know for while Mom and I thought you were a lesbian. Dad bet against it thought. I guess he won the pot. It's a shame, I had a hundred dollars riding on this."
Staring slack jawed at my brother I stopped right in my tracks. "You're joking right?" Wayne just walked ahead leaving me to stare at his back in astonishment.
"That's all that happened?" Keith urged "You talked about a damn fish."
Dragging a hand over my face. "Shut up man. I don't usually go messing around with every girl like you do Keith."
After my fucked up encounter with Angel I met up with my friend outside my house. Keith was a notorious womanizer and probably not the best person to get advice about women but he was better than Merle. Merle would just call up a prostitute for me. He's tried before but Daryl always turned the girls away.
"So what are you gonna do the next time you see her? Tell her about how you cut your own hair once?" Keith rolled his eyes at me. "Play it cool. Stop being a pussy." Getting angry I shoved his chest. "I ain't no pussy man. She's just... I don't know... different. Not like girls I'm used to talking to."
Keith scoffed at me with his arms crossed. "How would you even know that? You barley talked to her!"
"I know." Pacing in my yard I tugged my hair in frustration, "I just got a feelin' 'bout her. She's just..." I couldn't even describe what was so different about her but I knew it was something.
"Fine. I get it." Keith groaned. "Just don't fuck up next time."
Please review! I wanna know your thoughts on this. Just some confirmation that everything is going smoothly because right now I feel like I'm taking a swing in the dark. Honestly I think everything is going well but I just want to hear someone else say it.
