Author's Notes: Here is Chapter 2! Thank you for my followers and my favoriters (yeah, I know, that's not a word) you have brightened my day tremendously! Also, thanks to my first follower tyoro2075! Some things: I recommend listening to the song called "My Immortal" , its album version, by Evanescence. I think it gives a good feel for Rukia's emotions. You don't have to listen to this song, but, like I said, I think that it gives a good feel for what Rukia is feeling, even though it doesn't fit entirely. I know there are most likely better songs out there like Hello, by Evanescence also, but there is just something about this song that made me want to choose this. The parts with italics is what Rukia is recalling right after she went into the room, and some are Rukia's thoughts. The bolded words are the song lyrics. Well, I hope you like this chapter!
Death. The five letter word many despise. Death comes in many ways, but it always affects someone. Death is also said to come with new life, but this time, the only life that is left, is one of Kuchiki Rukia; but you might as well say she is dead, that her life is over.
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
My life.. This world.. Everything.. Means nothing now.. without you... Hisana, Byakuya..
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
Lying in Rukia's frail arms was her sister, her best friend, dead. She had been stabbed in the center of her stomach, and also been shot straight through the head, parts of her now no-longer working brain still showing through the hole, and some of the gray matter gushing out of the side next to her ear, not hearing the shouts of her sister.
She lay limp in her own blood, some mixed with her lover's, as they had died together. To the left of Rukia lie Byakuya, her soon-to-be brother in-law, dead also. He had been shot three times. One bullet in the middle of his left arm, which had broken his bone, the bullet not leaving his already dead body. The next laceration being inflicted upon his right hip, shooting out through his body after having previously transpired through his cartilage. And finally, a single more bullet had concluded the life of a noble, business mogul, and up-and-coming head of the Gotei Incorporated company. A single more bullet, ruining the life of a teenage girl. A single more bullet... all shot by the shaky hand of a scumbag, persuaded to torment a new family, with the risk of his own life at stake. Their blood stained the solid floors of the supposedly unpenetrable "secret" passageway.
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
She heard them. She heard the police. She heard the ambulance. She heard the emergency technicians, carrying Byakuya away. She heard the other emergency technicians yelling at her over their own sires, trying to pry Hisana out of her hands. She heard all of them... but she wasn't listening. All Rukia could hear was the scream and shouts of Hisana being stabbed. Then shot. All she could hear was the bullets piercing their way through her brother's body. All she could hear was the self-satisfied smirk of the bastard that killed her only family. The ambulance sirens continued to flare loudly, even though they knew that the body that they were carrying away on the stretcher, was gone.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
Rukia drowned out all other noises, while warm, salty tears stung her eyes, threatening to fall. Her throat constricted and contracted trying to breathe knowing that their master had lost all will to live. The moment that ruined her entire future kept playing continuously, hoping to acquire a different outcome. One that ended in restoring her family's lives. The tears blurred her purple irises before they fell reluctantly, glistening on her sisters pale face. Rukia's glazed over eyes drifted off into the distance and past the emergency technician in her face, shaking her. He took his opportunity to grab the body as Rukia's grip on Hisana's hand slackened.
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
As Rukia's cold and wrinkled hands lost their tenacious hold, Rukia glanced back down as the weight of her sister's limp body lightened. Her eyes widened of horror and she frantically thrust her hand out, missing the loss of contact with her late sister.
You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face—it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice—it chased away all the sanity in me
Hisana's final word continued to ring in her head like a broken record. "Ru.. kia."
The last word she tried so desperately to convey to her sister in a simple attempt to exchange consoling words. But her attempts were futile as all she could say was the strangled 3 syllable word.
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
"Hisana! No!" Rukia tugged on Hisana's arm, hoping to wake up from the nightmare she was experiencing.
"Don't go!"
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
"Please!" I need you.. I need you to come back. I'll be nicer to Byakuya... And the Kuchiki elders.. Just come back..
"I- I need you! Hi- His- Hisana!" She sputtered while speaking, trying to maintain her tears that were rapidly streaming across her face.
"Anything! I'll do anything!"
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
That day, Kuchiki Rukia vowed to never show weakness, for it will be the only thing that will hold you back. It will get you killed.
I've been alone all along
No more feelings. No more hurt. No more crying.
She sat in the police officers' car with her blood-ridden dress, tears dried and eyes hollow, staring far off towards the window, watching as the silent ambulance sped off with the corpses of the only people she called family.
"Excuse me, miss?" A tall female, about mid-thirties with long brunette hair and green eyes approached her. Just like Yumi. She's probably gone as well.
Fresh tears prickled her eyes once more. No.
No more crying. Ever..
"Miss?" The female waved her hand in front of Rukia's eyes gaining her attention.
She tried forming words to say to the Yumi look-alike, yet all she could manage was a strangled nod.
"The officers want to set a meeting with you to question you. We know that you have been through a lot of shock, but-"
Rukia's eyes hardened and narrowed while she looked in the deep green eyes of the Yumi doppelgänger. "They can question me now," she said, already standing up.
The woman looked startled as Rukia's demeanor changed from the once hollow and worthless person that she -once- was, to a person of forced hostility and "O- Okay then. Follow me."
Rukia followed the woman, and was led to an interrogating room.
After being interrogated -harrassed- by two police officers in uniform, Rukia made her way out of the police station, still drenched in her sisters dry blood, never being given a chance to go back to the mansion to get another change of clothes, due to the circumstances that she will disrupt the "evidence" that could potentially corrupt whomever murdered her parental figures.
Surrounded by her own thoughts, she never noticed the bright ball of orange that was going to come spiraling in her world.
Talking to my father was futile, nevertheless given the circumstances that had been placed on the weight of my family. The self-disgust I felt for my self for not being strong enough. I could never be strong enough to protect the ones around me, even while practicing karate. I could never be strong enough to protect the people I love, even if their lives are at stake. I might seem alright on the outside, but inside I was beating my self up, waiting for my entire being to collapse so I could be chewed up, and spit out on the sidewalk to die- just like her.
My inner thoughts continued trampling all hopes of trying to bring her back. I knew she was gone, so why did I have to keep reminding myself of my failure?
I continued beating my self up while walking around the courtyard of the police station before my chest connected with something, and i was suddenly lying on the ground, lip locked with an unknown person.
The person beneath me was exceedingly short, as their feet touched my knees as an attempt to push me off. It took a minute to comprehend what situation I was in: first kiss, at a police station, open for the entire world to see.
Once I had finally had the sense to get off of the tiny, squirming individual, whose legs were kicking, bruising my now tender legs, I pushed my hand down on- what I thought was- the concrete. The concrete was exceptionally squishy, soft even. As it turns out, it was not the concrete, but, in fact, the woman. How I know it was a female, well, i -accidentally, mind you- groped her.. Breasts.
Who the hell does this stranger think he is? First kissing me, and now groping my breasts? I've already tried kicking his monstrous body off, it's not like he does not weigh more than a feather. The man on top of me was practically crushing me. In a last attempt to stop flattening me as if I were a pancake, the male found his way to the ground and with a loud heave, slammed his feet on the concrete. He stood, and with the last ounce of dignity he had left, reached his lean arms down, silently begging with his eyes for the hope that I would comply.
Begrudgingly I outstretched my right hand, and with one tug he yanked me off my heels. Maybe he accidentally used too much force, or maybe he had planned this moment out perfectly. Nevertheless, I landed on his rock hard chest, laying on top of him. Our lips met once more as if they were magnets, connected by gravity, meeting each time they got close, no matter what obstacle gets in their way.
I pushed against his chest, and accidentally stepped on his crotch as my second kiss was stolen just like the first. A painful, high-pitched noise emitted from the kiss-stealer, as my foot still lie of his most sensitive area.
I blinked at him and cocked my head to the side, clueless as to what pain I was inflicting upon him.
She blinked at me in an adorable fashion as if she had no clue to what she was doing to me. I looked down to where her foot was, indicating why I made a grunt of disapproval. Her mystical eyes soon followed, and once her she found that she was not - in fact - smashing her miniature foot on my groin. She stopped my torment once she finally lifted her heel from my groin.
I stood a moment after, and looked down into the wonderous eyes of the midget that stood a foot shorter than I. I noticed her attire, she was only wearing the flimsy undergarment of a kimono. It was white, but it had numerous splotches of red. It only took a few seconds before I realized that she was covered in blood. I couldn't stop my curiosity from arising, how badly is she wounded? How is she able to stand and move so freely without feeling pain? Who did this to her?
An infinite amount of questions flooded my mind, and before I had time to stop myself, I asked "Do you want to come to my house?"
Apparently she must've taken my inquiry the wrong way, since before I knew it, she had vanished into thin air, leaving me left with the faint smell of cherry blossoms. I meant to ask her if she wanted to come to my clinic, since it was obvious she needed medical treatment, yet I spoke the nine words that left me sputtering like a fish out of the water. I chastised my self countless times as my obliviousness overshadowed my thoughts, and I went to search for the petite, raven-haired girl.
10 minutes later... ?
I stopped in the nearest alleyway after sprinting away from the most awkward confrontation I have ever been in my life. I sat on the filthy floor, not afraid of getting dirty as my undergarment was already stained with blood. I was still catching my breath before I heard "Hey baby. You shouldn't be outside this late at night. It's past your bedtime."
My eyes widened, before something hit my head, and I slipped into unconsciousness.
A/N: I know. Pretty short, and it's a cliffhanger! This might have been a little OOC, well, pretty OOC, but please tell me if I should continue this story. And also please review, my heart almost burst with happiness when I got my first 4 reviews. (I know it's not a lot but bear with me, this is my first fanfic)
