Later that day...
When Max and 99 came into the Chief's office later that day, the Chief told them more details about KAOS' time machine. "It looks exactly like ours, though that was just a coincidence," he explained. "As a matter of fact, there is only one difference between our time machine and their time machine. KAOS' time machine has the KAOS logo on it, which, of course, CONTROL's time machine does not have. Now, Max, what I want you to do is..." "Wait a minute, Chief," said Max. "Isn't this top security?" "Yes, it is," said the Chief. "Well, then," said Max, "shouldn't we activate the Cone of Silence?" "Max," said the Chief, "I've been having some problems with it again." "It's really that simple, Chief," said Max, activating the Cone of Silence. "But just in case, let's get out CONTROL's secret word files." And so the Chief got out two boxes containing index cards, each card with a word or number on it. After the Cone of Silence dropped down, the Chief said to Max, "Now, you and 99 are to use our time machine..." "What?" asked Max. The Chief got out his cards. "You and 66..." began the Chief with his cards, but Max had gotten out two of his own cards now to ask "Who's 66?" The Chief looked at the card in his hand and turned it upside-down so that it now said "99", after which he continued his sentence: "use our time machine and go to 802,701." "Got it, Chief," replied Max using his cards, and then he raised the Cone of Silence.
