It was 8:04 AM when Bif woke up again.

She woke up without her alarm clock's assistance. Having grown her own, in-body clock, she didn't really need it anymore. She kept it by her bedside as a decoration, at most, maybe to show visitors 'Hey, I have my life together!'. But after all, living in Duckburg for three years and maintaining her same job for a whole two thirds of that time naturally caused her to grow this second nature to do what she needed to do, when she needed to do them without a second thought. She despised it. She had moved to the town to be more independent, to freelance until her acting career was picked-up. It hadn't yet. Not even close...

It was 8:04 AM on a Thursday, her last day in the work-week. By 8:45 AM, she'd have to be out of her apartment to take over her shift of work. With a sense of dread, Bif sat up.

Bif didn't hate her job at the Squawk. She didn't hate Señor Rivas, or her coworkers that she only remembered the voices and not the faces of. She was in what she thought was contentment. But it was limbo. She was sure that eventually, she'd rise above her station, too bright to be a mere 4-hour radio host. This knowledge made the going to work process nearly unbearable.

She groaned as she held the sides of her head, vaguely wondering how messy her hair was from all the tossing and turning she'd obviously done. She groaned as she slid out of her small twin sized bed, which bore her red and golden royalty-themed bed sheets that she fawned over as a kid, and kept to this day with some pride and more savings. She groaned as she tread towards the pastel hotel-esque bathroom, and looked at herself in the mirror, only to find a vague white blob staring back at her.

This didn't surprise her, because she still hadn't put on her very necessary glasses, the ones she referred to as "old man-sses". Truth be told, they were exactly like the ones her abuelo used to wear. They were a gold rimmed metallic pair, with two lines connecting the frames. After sliding the pair over her beak, she looked at herself again, squinting for a better view.

Still a blob. But a blob with distinguishable features.

She scratched the back of her head as she peered at her reflection. " Ugh, I slept like crap," She muttered, eyeing the bags under her already drooping eyes. Bif had never been the soundest sleeper. She slept the best on her stomach… But that caused her back to ache with a vengeance the following day, so she didn't. The fact that she was only about to turn 21 seemed to fall to deaf ears to her body, eager to cause her any pain for any reason. It was haunting. Much like that dream- Whatever it was that the dream entailed. As she brushed her curly, slightly frizzy hair all to one side- Which was how it looked best, in her opinion-, she thought about her dream. She knew it was a nightmare, something about the dark, but not much else- It had probably been early in the night, after all. She wondered if it was a premonition. It wouldn't have been her first. Bif had many times been able to assume the future, being able to guess where her siblings car keys were, or how much change she would need to bring somewhere, or whether or not to take the freeway on a specific day. It wasn't anything that Bif called psychic, because she didn't believe in such things. Maybe it was luck. Maybe someone above was just particularly kind to her. Maybe she was thinking too hard, and she had simply fallen asleep to her neighbors playing a horror movie in the next room. Heaven knows the walls were too thin.

" Oh!" She said suddenly at this realization. She dropped her red toothbrush in her enlivenment, which she apparently grabbed without even thinking. It felt into the sink with an unsatisfactory 'pink' sound. She made a little noise of dismay before picking it up and haphazardly cleaning it beneath the cold tap water. " This routine is getting to me," she muttered to herself. " Every day, the same old thing. Even my body's been recalibrated to suit it."

Bif wanted nothing more than a change. She had moved to Duckburg three years ago after graduating to focus on her acting career, which had still yet to begin. She wanted a new start, away from family, away from anyone who'd ever known her. She wanted to be comfortable, not content. But all that she got was a dispatch job she couldn't bear to keep or bear to leave, a harsh acting mentor, more people to know and judge her, and a sound economy at the expense of all other small towns, thanks to Scrooge McDuck.

Ugh. McDuck.

Bitterly, Bif dragged her toothbrush against her teeth. McDuck, Glomgold, Beaks- They were all the same. In her rage, she may have broken through the enamel, for all she knew. She stopped and spit into the sink.

She smiled sweetly into the reflection, a customer service smile, where the customer was herself. She would have to change another day. She worked the final four hours of the AM shift at her job Monday through Thursday, and her predecessor, Andy, had no sympathy for tardiness, and would leave without a word to Señor Rivas about it. Even if she had her suspicions Señor Rivas didn't even listen to the radio during her shift, she took haste in pulling her pure white long sleeved shirt over her head, before slipping over a baggy, itchy violet sweater that was too big for her even at the age of 21, and grabbing her apartment room key, which she personalized with a cute little golden sticker of a cartoon or video game character- She didn't really know, she didn't follow media enough to. She walked through the front door with a skip in her step, pretending she didn't need a change.

As she locked the door behind her, she stopped smiling. Hopefully, the day would be merciful. For some reason, she felt something would happen. For better or worse.

C: Chapter 2! I was kinda stressed while writing this, because I feel like it doesn't do Bif's character justice, but c'est la vie! after all, this story is about steadily learning about the characters... in the next chapter, we'll open to huey, dewey, and louie- who are feeling quite the opposite from bif's… er… unpleasant mindset... stay tuned! thanks for reading!
