Chapter One: The Solaceon Town Campout

Zelda's POV

"I can't believe Cynthia is making me go to this thing", I mumble as I walk to the Hearthome City Pokémon Center. What is this thing, you ask? Well, Cynthia and the Champions of the other 3 regions set up a gathering for the strongest trainers and coordinators in the world. Only trainers who have 6+ badges or 3+ Contest Ribbons can attend. There, they will get to meet the Champions, or if they've already met them, get to see them again. Seeing as I'm currently the most powerful trainer in the world, seeing all of them again will be nice.

The whole event is basically a camp out type of thing, as well. It's located in Route 209, by the café near Solaceon Town, in Sinnoh. They will have to set up their own tents, and sleep on Route 209. Not that this is a hard feat, however. I've done this so many times because either I was too tired to get to a Pokémon Center, or I didn't have enough money to actually stay anywhere.

So, I enter the Pokémon Center, where Nurse Joy politely welcomes me. "Do you want your Pokémon healed", she asks.

I shake my head. "I just need to use your phone." She nods, and I go over to the unoccupied phone. It has a place to slide your trainer card in to pay for the call, and if you're calling a profession organization, it will send a copy of your trainer card to the computer of the operator on the other line. Annoying, but the phone company insists on this policy.

I dial the number of the Sinnoh Pokémon League. It rings for a few seconds before a female voice picks up.

"Hello, this is the Sinnoh Pokémon League, Jennifer speaking. What can I help you with?"

The voice is unfamiliar to my ears. Normally, it's the voice of Alejandro, the rude secretary of the Pokémon League, who picks up. He knows my voice by heart, and cusses me out every time I call through the Pokémon League hotline. I do the same thing to him. We pretty much hate each other, but tolerate each other because I'm Cynthia's best friend, and he wants to keep the job that he only received because he's dating Lorelei, one of Kanto's Elite Four. So hearing this new voice is refreshing, but almost like something is missing.

"Hello, I need to talk to Cynthia, please."

The voice on the other line laughs. "Honey, Cynthia doesn't take calls from just anyone. You need to set up an appointment if you want to speak with her. I can help you with that. I just need your trainer card so I can see who you are."

I smirk, and slide my trainer card in. I know Cynthia has me listed as her best friend, and a person that doesn't need an appointment to talk to her through the Pokémon League hotline in the League's main computer. I would normally call her on her cell, but it broke when it fell into her toilet. You'd think she would have replaced it by now, but a Champion has lots of stuff to do besides replacing phones.

I hear a beep, and my card comes out of the slot. "Okay, I'm checking your card right now…. Oh. So you're Zelda. They warned me about you", she mumbles hesitantly.

"They did, did they? Yeah, I'm both the strongest Pokémon trainer in the world, AND I'm Cynthia's best friend. And you know what, I don't appreciate having to wait to talk to my best friend about important matters."

Jennifer apologizes before transferring the call to Cynthia. "Hey, Zelda, what's up?"

"What's the deal with the new secretary lady? What happened to Alejandro?"

Cynthia sighs, and responds, "Lorelei broke up with him. So, you know, she also fired him. Why do you want to know? I thought you hated the guy?"

"Yeah, I do, but the new lady isn't very nice either."

"She's nicer than Alejandro ever was."

"Yeah, but Alejandro was rude in a different kind of way. I miss cussing him out over the phone. He was like a little verbal punching bag."

"Part of me misses him, too. I'll try and get Lorelei to hire him again. If she refuses, I'll ask Green to rehire him. He has a huge crush on me, and I can use that to get Alejandro hired again. Lorelei won't be able to do anything about it." She pauses, and then implies, "You didn't just call to complain about the new secretary, did you?"

"No. Do I have to come to the gathering thing?"

"Yes! There are some trainers that are going to be there that I want you to meet. There's this one that has great potential, but lacks both faith and love for his Pokémon. I want you to meet him, and see if you can set him straight."

"Fine, I'll go. But do not tell anyone about my status unless I give you permission!"

"You know I wouldn't do that in the first place. I'll see you there. It starts at noon, don't forget!"

She hangs up before I can hang up on her. Damn it, she did it again. I might be losing my touch.

*Two Hours Later*

I'm here at the event, and there are about 100 or so tents laid out in the area that is Route 209. It's hard to see much because of the massive amount of trainers, but I manage find Cynthia in the whole mess. She is by what I call her "battle bus", which is fenced off from the normal trainers.

The Champions get to stay in their own buses because of the possibility of someone trying to kill them in their sleep. And I have the perk of staying in Cynthia's bus with her.

"You're late", Cynthia playfully scolds when I finally arrive.

"Yeah, by a half hour. This thing lasts all night, and I needed to get the necessary crap to actually come out here."

"What do you mean? You're not sleeping in a tent. Your sleepover stuff is already in my bus. What could you need?"

I hold my bag out for Cynthia to look into. "Lots of Hyper Potions. Full Heals. And a few Revives, but I probably won't need them."

"Why? Are you going to hold back on the trainers here?"

"No, I was just almost out of them, and I needed to go shopping, anyway."

"Cool. Nice outfit, by the way. A real good way to make new friends." I giggle. She's definitely right about that. My outfit doesn't shout "I'm friendly, come talk to me!".

I'm wearing black shorts, and a black tank top covered with a red and black flannel shirt. My simple black sandals cover my feet. My red and black bag rests on my hip. I'm wearing my bright purple hair in a messy high ponytail, and all of my ear cuffs are showing.

I take one look at her, and retort, "You're not much better, Miss I Must Wear Black On Every Part Of My Body."

We both start laughing hysterically.

Cynthia spots some trainers, and gestures for them to come over. "Do you mind if I tell them about your status? They won't tell, and they are nice people… well, most of them."

"Cynthia, you know I hate when people know about that. No, unless they've earned my trust." Cynthia pouts, but nods. She unlocks the gate that separates them from her bus, and I see a familiar face.

"Brock! What the hell are you doing here?" I hug him. He's got to be one of the nicest guys ever. I met him when I was in Kanto. He was the first Gym Leader I defeated there. We exchanged phone numbers, and have been friends ever since. He may be girl-obsessed, but overall, he's awesome. The first time he hit on me, I punched him in the gut. Now, he's one of my few friends, but he knows not to pull any moves on me.

"Hey, Zelda, how are you?" I think he still remembers that punch, because he hugs me lightly, and releases me quickly.

"Wow. You're the first girl that Brock hasn't hit on since I met him", the girl on the other side of Brock says.

I look towards her. Brock told me that her name is Dawn, and that she is a coordinator. I've never been one for contests, myself. She's pretty, and looks nice, but remember, her name is Dawn. If you flip the w, it turns into Damn.

"I punched him in the gut the first time he did that, and now he knows not to even think about it. You must be Dawn." She nods, and I shake her hand.

The guy with the black hair with the Pikachu on his shoulder must be Ash. "Nice Pikachu. I used to have my Pikachu, Pika, ride on my shoulder, but he evolved into a Raichu, and now he's too fat." Ash laughs, and introduces himself, although I already know who he is.

The guy off to the side of Brock's group, more by Cynthia, doesn't look, or seem familiar, although I can tell by the scowl, he's the one she wants me to help.

He's an interesting looking guy. Shoulder length purple hair, and black eyes. I wonder if the hair is natural? Mine's not.

"I don't know who the heck you are, but it's nice to meet you all the same."

He looks up at me, and shakes my hand. "The name's Paul."

Cynthia cuts in. "Brock, you already know this weird chick, but for the rest of you, this is Zelda. She is an avid Pokémon Trainer."

Brock grins knowingly, Ash and Dawn wave at me, and Paul just gives me a nod of acknowledgment.

"Hey", I nod back at them. Paul has this look in his eyes that I recognize immediately. It's the same look I always have when I wanted to face a challenge.

Paul walks up to me. "I challenge you to a three on three Pokémon battle."

"Whoa, Paul, you just got here! Why don't we hang out with Cynthia and Zelda for a little bit? There's plenty of time for battles later", Dawn suggests. Paul just glares at her, and repeats his offer of a challenge.

I grin. "Hey, it's fine, Dawn. You're pretty gutsy, aren't you, Paul? I accept your challenge, but I have to warn you, I'm pretty good at this."

Cynthia backs me up. "She is, too."

There's a battle arena in the middle of the whole camping event. Almost all of the people at the campout come over to watch the battle. Brock acts as the referee. "This is a three on three battle of Pokémon trainer Paul against Pokémon trainer Zelda."

"Go Jellybean!" I let out my Pidgeot, Jellybean.

"Electivire, stand by for battle!"

"It is Electivire versus Pidgeot! Let the battle begin!"

Paul seems to waste no time attacking. "Electivire, use Thunder!"

"Jellybean, dodge it, now!" Jellybean manages dodge it by a few inches.

"Let's not waste our time here, use Hyper Beam!"

Jellybean flies around Electivire, and fires a Hyper Beam at him.

"Electivire, counter with another Thunder attack!"

Electivire aims its Thunder right at Jellybean's Hyper Beam, and the field erupts in smoke. I can't see anything, but Jellybean has the ability, Keen Eye, and I know she can see everything. But unfortunately, she has to rest before she can move again.

The smoke is thick, and Jellybean has enough time to attack before the smoke clears.

"Jellybean, let's finish this, use Return!"

The smoke still hasn't completely cleared, but Jellybean pretty much skyrockets into the yellow dazed figure in the middle of the field. When she hits it, it goes flying into the air, and lands on the ground again. I've known Jellybean for a long time, so her Return Attack is really powerful.

"Jellybean, flap your wings to clear the rest of the smoke!"

Jellybean flies painfully in the middle of the smoke, and clears the smoke with one flap of her powerful wings. It's only when she returns to my side, however, that I realize that she is paralyzed.

But on the other side of the field, Electivire lies, knocked out.

"Electivire is unable to battle! Pidgeot is the winner!"

"Are you okay, Beany? That was a great battle. I'll heal you after the battle. Return."

I return her to her Great Ball.

"That was pathetic, Electivire. I expected much more out of you. You had a type advantage!" Paul says before returning his fainted Electivire.

This is one thing that always pisses me off. I hate when trainers verbally abuse their Pokémon.

"Hey, don't talk to your Pokémon like that! Electivire did well! There's no reason to treat him like that."

"The way I talk to my Pokémon is none of your concern."

I go to say something else, but he lets his second Pokémon before I can.

"Magmortar, stand by for battle!"

"Go, Pika!" I let my Raichu out.

"It's Magmortar against Raichu. Let the battle begin!"

"Pika, start us off with Thunderbolt!"

"Raiiii Chuuu!"

Pika sends a huge bolt of electricity aimed right at Magmortar.

"Magmortar, use Fire Spin to send the Thunderbolt right back!"

To my surprise, Magmortar sends it right back at Pika, who scrambles away from the mixed bolt of electricity and fire. It hits Pika's tail, and he gets shocked. "Raiii!"

Pika turns around, and sends a glare that says, "You're going to die now", right at Magmortar. The last time Pika sent a glare like that to another Pokémon, that Pokémon was at the Pokémon Center for about a week.

If there's one thing you never want to do, it's messing with Pika's tail. He hates that.

I don't even need to tell Pika to use Zap Cannon; he's so pissed off, he does it himself.

"Raiiiii Chuuuu!"

The indescribable amount of electricity coming from Pika's cheeks shocks everyone else on the field, even Paul. He has no time to tell Magmortar to do anything. It gets hit dead on, and with that amount of electric power, I know it's an automatic 1 hit KO.

Magmortar lies on the field, badly electrocuted, and Paul looks at Pika, his eyes widened. Pika is huffing and puffing both from anger, and exhaustion. Extorting that much power tires anyone out.

"Magmortar is unable to battle! Raichu is the winner!"

"Magmortar, that was better than Electivire, but it was still pathetic. Extra training for both of you after this battle."

I clench my fists at Paul's obvious mistreatment of his Pokémon. He notices this, and smirks. That asshole, not only does he treat his Pokémon like tools, but he's purposely doing it to piss me off! I'm not going to let him get to me.

"Pika, return. That was an awesome battle."

"Chu." Pika returns to his Pokéball.

"I guess it's my turn to pick a Pokémon. Go Piper!"

My Empoleon bursts from her Pokéball surrounded by bubbles, making her usual dramatic entrance.

"Ursaring, stand by for battle!" Paul sends out this awesome beast of a Pokémon.

"Wow. You know, I've fought a few other Ursarings in my time, but yours looks the most badass out of any of them."

Paul just glares and doesn't respond, but his Ursaring grins, and punches a hole in the ground to show off. This irritates Paul.

"Ursaring, quit messing around. This is a battle, not a playground!"

"Hey, it's natural for males to want to show off for a pretty girl. Lay off!"

"What do you mean, pretty girl? I don't see a pretty girl anywhere on the field." He smirks as he says this.

Bastard.

I don't respond, but Piper looks ready to commit murder. Paul's murder. Piper may be a powerhouse on the battlefield, but otherwise, she's a very sensitive girly girl. If you insult her looks, you're asking for a death sentence.

Brock starts the battle. "It's Empoleon against Ursaring! Let the battle begin!"

"Ursaring, use Hammer Arm!"

"Piper, dodge it", I yell.

Piper tries to dodge Ursaring's Hammer Arm, but he's too fast, and she gets hit dead on. Paul is smirking, and he lets out a satisfied humph.

"What's so funny", I question with an edge to my tone.

Paul sneers, and replies, "I got the better of you and your Empoleon. Looks like you're weak, after all."

Piper shifts her eyes to Paul, and she's giving him her best death glare. It doesn't seem to affect him much, however.

"Ursaring, Focus Blast, now!"

"Piper, use Aqua Jet straight into the sky!"

Piper uses the power of the Aqua Jet to propel herself up, and to dodge Ursaring's Focus Blast.

"Now, Piper, use Aqua Peck!"

Piper jets towards Ursaring, using the move Drill Peck, while still enveloped in the Aqua Jet.

"What", Paul exclaims as Piper hits Ursaring dead on.

"Ursaring is unable to battle! Empoleon is the winner! And the battle goes to Pokémon Trainer Zelda!"

The crowd of trainers around us cheer and roar.

Paul scowls as he recalls his fallen Ursaring. "Completely pathetic", he says to Ursaring's Pokéball.

Cynthia, and I look at each other, and we both frown at the same time. Cynthia, Brock, Ash, Dawn, Paul, and I group back together over towards Cynthia's bus, where other trainers can't overhear us. Paul goes to walk away, but Cynthia calls out to him,

"Paul, wait!"

Paul looks back to us, and says, "I need to heal my useless Pokémon. What do you want?"

Cynthia lets out a small smile, and responds, "There's a healing machine in my bus. I always keep one handy. Brock, Ash, Dawn, Zelda, and I are going to hang out in my bus until the first big event starts. You can join us, if you want. Besides, Zelda and I need to tell all of you something."

Paul thinks it over for a second, before nodding. Cynthia smiles again, and gestures for all of us to go into her bus.

Cynthia's bus is totally pimped out. There is a kitchen area, a section for hanging out, a fully functional bathroom, and three bunk beds in the back. The inside is painted black, no surprise about that. The outside is blood red. Yeah, I helped design Cynthia's bus. It looks awesome!

"Wow, this bus is amazing", Ash exclaims as we go over to the couches and sit down. Cynthia smiles and says,

"Thanks. Zelda helped me design it. Now, where did I put that machine…?"

Cynthia walks into the back of the bus to find her portable healing machine.

"So, Zelda, what did you and Cynthia want to tell us", Brock asks while looking lovingly at the door Cynthia disappeared into. I snicker at his lovesick expression, and then answer,

"I'd rather wait until Cynthia gets back to tell you."

Brock shrugs, and leans back onto the couch. Ash and Dawn are on the edge of their seats, excited. Paul has rejected the couches in favor of standing up and away from Brock, Ash, and Dawn.

"So, Zelda, where are you from", Ash asks.

"I'm from Cherrygrove City in Johto. Have you guys ever been there?"

Ash perks back up and replies, "Yeah! Brock and I went there. It's near New Bark Town! That means you must know Professor Elm."

"Yep, he gave my first Pokémon!"

Speaking of my first Pokémon; Cyndi, my Typholosion, pops out of her Poké Ball, and lets out a roar. Ash and Dawn both scream in fright while Paul only looks mildly surprised. However, Brock doesn't move an inch, and he says,

"Hey, Cyndi, how are you?"

Cyndi lets out an appreciative grunt, and rubs her head across Brock's stomach. He laughs, and pets her head, while scratching behind her ears.

"Speak of the devil, and she shall appear…", I say, which results in Cyndi giving me a mild glare.

Cynthia emerges from the back with the healing machine, and sits down on the couch.

"Here, Paul, I'll heal your Pokémon", Cynthia says. Paul hands her his Poké Balls, and she uses the healing machine on them before handing them back to Paul.

"Thanks", Paul says.

"No problem. Now, what Zelda and I wanted to tell you is—" I cut Cynthia off,

"I am the most powerful Pokémon Trainer in the entire world."
