Sorry for the long wait and the short update. Enjoy!
Malik had been gone for a couple of hours, now, and Erin supposed she couldn't blame him for heading for the hills. She was going to have to deal with this alone, she supposed. Still, she couldn't quite bring herself to admit that he wasn't coming back, to get up and go out and get a test for herself. She could wait just a little longer, couldn't she?
Then, suddenly, he was back. One moment she was staring at the floor, trying to gather the courage to make a move, and the next she was looking up into his worried eyes.
"Erin? You OK?"
"Yeah." She smiled at him, trying not to look surprised. "You're back."
"Told you I would be. Sorry I took so long, I... er, I had to do some running." She assumed that meant he'd been spotted stealing from somewhere and had to escape, though he must have been rather over-cautious to take so long. She felt bad for doubting him, now.
"Did you get one?" To her surprise, he responded by taking off his leather jacket.
"Er... not quite." He turned it upside down and shook it, and test kit after test kit began cascading from the pockets. She looked at him, and he shrugged with a sheepish smile. "I, er... might have panicked, a bit."
A few minutes later, Erin was sitting in the bathroom of their little flat, waiting for the three test kits she'd managed to hold onto at once to change colour. Malik was outside, obediently not talking to her since he'd been making her nervous. Depending on the results of these tests, their unlives might be about to change forever.
Malik heard the bolt slide back and stood, waiting for Erin to stand aside and let him in. She did, hand shaking as she reached out for his. He gripped her fingers tightly and peered down at the line of tests. Well, they all seemed to have the same number of lines on them, at any rate.
"Er... what does that mean?"
"...It means I'm pregnant."
