Mia wiggled her toes in her hiking boots and stretched out her arms. "Hey, Mia!" She turned to see her friend, Holly, and her boyfriend, Sam. Behind Sam was Tyler, casually smoking a joint. "We're going to explore the ridge. Wanna join?"
Mia glanced towards the glittering water just down a hill from their campsite. She turned back to Holly. "I think I'm just stay near the river. Maybe explore the valley."
"Okay, we'll see you guys later then!" Holly replied before the both them headed for the trail.
After the two disappeared, Mia glanced at Tyler as he finished the joint off. "I'll be around," she told him and got a nod. She got her camera and began making her way through the tress.
It was only about a ten minute walk away. On the way, Mia happily spun a few times through the low hanging branch and let the spur's needle brush against her skin. She loved the woods no matter what season. It was late fall and most of the surrounding trees have lost their colored leaves.
Suddenly her ears began to pick up on a quiet ringing sound. It's the kind of ringing that came from something electric device. At first she left as just a thought in the back of her as she continued. After a minute, she couldn't ignore it.
What was that sound?
Mia came to a stop and scanned her surroundings. The woods no longer felt welcoming as the uneasy sound of silence settled. It couldn't be something electronic. She was in the middle of nowhere in a National Park. They hiked in fifteen miles yesterday from the entrance of the Park. There were no roads or cabins around. And they hadn't seen anyone after the five mile mark. Most people didn't enjoy backpacking when the weather deep below freezing at night, but they didn't mind.
She turned to her right and began to go off her path to the river.
The sound was getting louder.
And louder.
By the time she finally reached a large fallen tree, Mia was on the verge of a terrible migraine. She eyed the cider tree that still looked healthy. None of the green needles had even turned brown yet which mean it fell down when it was still alive. Where the tree's trunk broke there was no evidence it was from a lightning strike. The bark wasn't burnt or peeling off. There also wasn't a split were the lightning strike had traveled down the tree. It looked like it was just simply knocked over.
Nothing was making sense.
Then something metal caught her eye. It was a gold and black pyramid that was laying underneath some fallen leaves. As she reached for it, it felt electrifying and the ringing was becoming unbearable to tolerate.
When her hands grasped the warm metal, the sound instantly went away. It took a moment for Mia's ears to adjust to the silence. They felt like they were filled with fluid at first. She studied the pyramid when she regain her hearing and noticed the black seemed to be like a lightly transparent glass. She lifted it up for the sunlight to shine through it. But she could only see an outline of something in the middle.
Suddenly a hand grabbed her shoulder to whip her around.
She was so out of it that she didn't even scream.
It was Tyler.
"Tyler?" Mia asked in confusion after she saw worry in his expression.
He glanced down at the artifact she held in her hands and then back to her face. He opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off by a sound.
It was the sound of static in the background and it made the two of them freeze in place. The pyramid was still in Mia's hand and Tyler was still grasping her forearm. Tyler quickly picked Mia up off the ground and then grabbed the object to shove it in her backpack. He spun her back around for her to be facing him. "Run. Just-"
Mia's blue eyes were still scanning the trees when she cut him off. "No." She paused. "No, I'm not going- Who's coming?"
He shoved her in the opposite direction and unclipped the hatchet from his belt. He stared her down with a very serious expression for a moment before repeating, "Mia,RUN." There was no doubt in Mia's mind that Tyler was trying to save her life, but she was too much like her mother. She wanted to save everyone.
She burst through a wall of tree limbs before the sound small blasting sounds could be heard. It wasn't gunshots. It was some kind of weird metallic sounds…kind of. She couldn't make sense what she was hearing. She tried tune out the sounds, hoping one them wouldn't hit Tyler. Her blood was pumping as her lungs began to burn. She had no idea where she was going… All she had to do was get back to camp to get help. The thought of being safe with her friend washed over her with relief. But then a horrible thought struck her. She would be leading those men in white suits straight to her friends. They would kill them all. She had to find them now. Those men were going to find them regardless the direction she ran in. Tyler would tell her just to keep running, but Mia couldn't do that to her friends. She could already hear him yelling at her. Mia, don't be a dumbass!
Tyler was able to get one stormtrooper in the neck, making the trooper's blood paint his clean white armor. Tyler was able to successfully swing and make contact with another trooper. It didn't take long for Tyler to be overpowered and for him to lose the grip on his hatchet when they took the butt of an E-11 Blaster Rifle to his temple. It stunned him long enough to be dragged back to Kylo Ren's ship.
He was brought to a dimly lit room and was strapped down to a steel chair. He pulled at the metal restraints with anger. He let out a frustrated hissed when he began to pull again. "It's no use," a voice deep voice commented from the shadows of the room and Tyler's head shot up. The man in the mask that he had seen early that day stepped in the light, finally showing where he was. "You can't get out of those restraints."
"And who the fuck are you?" Tyler demanded with anger and it couldn't be helped when Tyler's anger reminded Kylo of his. "And what's up with the lame helmet?"
He thought perhaps this person was going to be hard to crack, but then he remembered how clueless the man looked when Kylo first saw his face. His eyes were wide with confusion as his face wore an unsure expression. These humans on this planet were oblivious to what the rest of the universe held and that was their downfall.
They were practically defenseless.
It took only about two minutes to break down the wall in Tyler's head before the images flooded Kylo's head. Kylo watched the memory of Tyler shoving the holocron into the pack that belong to a girl with wavy blonde hair and vivid blue eyes.
"Run. Just-"
Her blue eyes were still scanning the trees when she cut him off. "No." She paused. "No, I'm not going-"
He shoved her and unclipped the hatchet from his belt. He stared her down with a very serious expression for a moment before repeating, "Mia,RUN."
Kylo's hand was stretched out, only an inch from Tyler's head. His eyes were pressed closed and beads of sweat clung to his skin. Kylo did slightly admire the fight he put up, but of course, it was no use against the powers of the Dark Side. "There's a girl," he said aloud with a curious tone and instantly got a reaction from the man. "Mia?"
" You fucking freak! How did you-?If you hurt her, I swear-"
Kylo snapped at the young man, "You'll what?" Tyler stared at Kylo intensely and it didn't faze the young knight of Ren. "You can't stop me." He stood up and the pressure from Tyler's head returned.
"Mia,RUN."
"Mia."
"Hey, Tyler!" Mia waved happily a ways down from the hallway where Tyler was. It was another memory of his. When she reached him, Mia was smiling. She was an attractive girl with a round, pale face and excellent curves on her small frame. The two of them, Tyler and Mia, were in their twenties just like Kylo was.
"Get the hell out of my head!" Tyler screamed at him and lurched forward at Kylo.
Kylo smiled behind his mask, when he realized the holocron and a message from his grandfather was soon to be his. She was going to be an easy target. He quickly left the room with Tyler yelling after him, but Kylo never looked back at Tyler. He was no longer of any importance.
Kylo had to find the girl fast and with disappointment, he realized that he has already lost time. When he stalked out of the ship, he saw the sun had already dipped behind the mountains. Kylo cursed under his breath and continued forward into the cold.
When it finally was dark, Mia had hoped that maybe they had called off the search for her, seeing as it was difficult to see without daylight. Then again, they could have thermal readings or whatever else they had to find her with ease. Or maybe, they hadn't seen her. She was crossing her fingers for the last one.
She found a large Cottonwood tree with a large hollow hole. It was around 70 feet tall and had yellow and brown heart-shaped leaves that littered the ground. She climbed into the hole and curled into a ball to keep herself warm. It had to be in the low 20's and Mia shivered against the cool bark. The cold air sunk lower into the valley that made it dreadfully cold that night. She clawed at the ground to pick up leaves to cover her to keep her warmer. She didn't know if it would make a difference or not. It wasn't like she could start a fire to stay warm. They would surely find her.
She pulled the pyramid out of her bag. It was made partly made of metal and…maybe crystal? Made it's wasn't glass. It seemed too durable to be glass.
She ran the tips of her pale fingers over the edges as her curious blue eyes study the item. Then there was a feeling of energy. Almost like static electricity when one would get shocked. A click came from the pyramid and it burned bright red. Mia squeaked in surprise before releasing it and jumping back to tumble out of the tree. She hit the ground hard and groaned. When she opened her eyes, Mia was surprised to see a hologram of a man in all black. He too wore a mask.
"An apprentice is essential. A master without an apprentice is a master of nothing," the voice said. His voice was strange. It was human but also slightly robotic in a way. Who is he? What did she just open?
Mia was so confused.
"Give yourself to the Dark Side. It is the only way you can save your friends." Her eyes widened as she suddenly felt like he was talking to her. But surely, it's just a saved a hologram. "Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Give into your hate and anger." He pauses. "He will show you the true nature of the Force. He is your Master now. This will be a day long remembered. It will soon see the end of Rebellion."
The hologram glitches a few times before he disappears and the pyramid goes dark.
