A Hidden World
Chapter Two
A few days later…
Day: Sunday
Time: 5:43
Where the main character is: His kitchen. No parents home to mess anything up. Yay!
There was a loud bang from my room. I dropped the sandwich I was eating on the table and walked up the stairs. I walked into my room and saw Randall with his back to the door, holding it shut.
"Help!" he cried. "The CDA are outside. They're after me! They saw me take the door."
"What? So?"
"They want to destroy it. What do you think?" he snapped.
"Why? What's the big fuss? And why does it matter if they saw you with it?"
"They don't want the monster world revealed! You know too much. They're going to…" I started to sweat.
"Kill me?" I squeaked.
"No," said Randall irritably, as if I were being stupid. Which I probably was. "They're going to keep you in the monster world, locked up, so you don't reveal us to anybody."
"But--" I interrupted.
"No 'buts'!" Randall snapped. "Whatever those demented freaks want, we are not going to give it to them!"
"We hear you in there!" said a muffled voice. "Open up!" Uh-oh! CDA monsters!
"On mumble," said the voice. "One, mumble, thrmumble!" There was a loud bang as the door burst open, Randall getting thrown across the room. Three monsters in yellow suits holding big nets jumped in. They saw me, and one of them pointed. I looked around frantically. They dived after me and I ran out of my bedroom. I ran downstairs, with the three CDA people at my heels. I managed to peel my sock off as they came down and I threw it at the middle guy. Works every time. The other two leaped on him, shouting, while Randall jumped down the stairs, chased by CDA guys.
"Turn invisible!" I hissed at him as he ran behind me.
"I want to keep that ability secret for the time being until I really need it," he replied, leaping to the ceiling and hanging off of it, swinging. The CDA people jumped up at him, but they couldn't reach. He crossed his arms and pretended to nap. Then, the monsters caught sight of me and surrounded me. I ran at one, arms outstretched. He panicked and ran away. I ran after him and touched his arm.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" he yelled, trying to wipe it off with one of his other four hands. Another monster jumped on him with a huge net and held him struggling against the floor. He took something out of his pocket and looked at it.
It was a tall, orange spray bottle with some scribbled words on the side. In large letters it said AcidSpray. There was a caution on the side, but I couldn't read it. The monster holding it sprayed it on the monster in the net. The net smoked and melted, and so did the CDA uniform the guy had on. He was a light blue monster with five hands. Two on each side, and one growing out of his head. Yuck.
"AcidSpray," muttered the monster holding the spray can. "Only proper way to destroy toxic human germs."
"What about the other spray?" asked another CDA guy.
"Not strong enough. There's still a minute chance that the germs could hurt someone. Best to just use this," replied the first monster.
"They're coming out with something new," said someone else. "Something less harsh."
"That's not the point!" interrupted a new voice with authority. "We're here to get the boy, bring him back, destroy the door, and capture Boggs!"
"That is, kidnap the kid," muttered another CDA monster.
"Quiet!" said the infuriated leader, if that's what he was. He motioned to some strong monsters, and they ran over to me and grabbed me by the arms. I looked around for Randall, but I couldn't find him. At least one of us wasn't getting captured. One of the monsters that was holding me suddenly screamed and let go. I kicked at the other one. Behind the first, I saw the bottle of AcidSpray drop to the floor. Yes! Randall must have invisibly stolen it and used it on the monster.
The monster that was holding me dropped me and said, "Where's Boggs?" He looked around, and then said; "I'll take this" he looked at me, revolted "back to you-know-who. You find Boggs."
"But--"
"No 'buts'!" broke in the leader. "Troggle, you do that. Everyone else, search for Boggs!" He stepped back to watch. The monster that was holding me, Troggle, dragged me upstairs. I heard a whisper in my ear that sounded like Randall, but I couldn't make out what it was saying.
Troggle shoved me to the floor when we got to my room. He opened the door to my closet/the monster world and revealed Randall's room. Funny. I expected to be in Monsters, Inc. or something. I made a mental note to ask Randall about this later.
"In," mumbled the CDA guy. "And don't even think about trying to escape." I looked around to see if there was any way I could escape, but found nothing. Very well. I'd have to wait to make my getaway until we were in the other world. I wasn't actually going to let them kidnap me, in case you were stupid enough to think I would. No offense if you did.
Just then, the decision of whether or not to escape was taken out of my hands. A row of sharp steak knives kind of appeared in midair, as if coming out from behind an invisible something. The strange effect was caused by Randall holding the knives facing away from us, and then turning so they were visible. I wondered why it wouldn't just look like the knives were hovering in midair without anything holding them up, and then just turning to face us. I guess Randall purposely made himself show the wall instead of the floating knives. (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry. It won't make the story much less enjoyable for you. Story? Did I say story? Er--I meant the--uh--factual account! Uh-huh. Not fictional story. Now, back to the story! Er--factual account!)
"Back away with your hands up, and no one gets hurt," hissed Randall, who, by the way, was still invisible. "And don't even think about trying to escape. Tables are turned now, aren't they?" he added, and I could feel him grinning even if I couldn't see him. The knives started rearranging and moving about in midair. They started going in a circle and up and down, like horses on a merry-go-round.
"Well?" Randall snapped as the poor guy watched, mesmerized. "What are you waiting for? Back away with your hands up!"
The monster lifted his hands (all three) and backed away, heading for the door. I looked back at Randall, amused.
"Oops..." said Randall. "I need to practice this... Don't even think about going out of the door! Or I'll throw one of these at you!" A knife floated up in the air and shook about, courtesy of Randall. The monster stopped dead in its tracks. I almost felt bad for it. "Almost" being the key word.
Randall reappeared and motioned for me to follow him. I walked into his room and immediately fell back through the door backwards, expected to land on my back, instead crumpled onto my feet and hurt my ankle. I stood up again. I reached through my door and felt the floor of Randall's room. I pulled myself through, experiencing the very strange sensation of having gravity pull on me from two different directions. I collapsed on the floor of Randall's room, exhausted.
"How did they find you?" I managed when I had gotten my breath back. "And how come this door leads into your room instead of Monsters, Inc.?"
"Sit down and I'll tell you," he replied. I got up and sat on his couch, and he started talking. TO BE CONTINUED...
