"Pën, teki!" a mechanical voice said. It took Maya a little to realize they were speaking Octoling. "Get up!" the voice said. "Ok, ok," she said, "I'm getting up." Maya opened her eyes and saw an octoling with sickly green skin and tentacles the same color, but they faded to blue at the ends. She was holding an octoblaster, which was pointed at Maya's head. Maya stood up, and as soon as she did this, an old inkling with bulging eyes and a beard fell from the ceiling and crushed the octoling flat! Maya approached him carefully. He turned around and pointed what looked like an old Bamboozler 14 Mk I at her. "One step closer, octo," he shouted in perfect octoling "and I'll cook you!". But then he put the weapon down and came closer. "Wait," he said, "you don't have a weapon!".
"But where are my manners…" the old squid said, "I haven't even told you my name! I'm Cap'n Cuttlefish, leader of the legendary New Squidbeak Splatoon! And you are…?"
"Maya." Maya said. The old squid thought for a moment then said, "Interesting... I noticed you were humming the Calamari Inkantation right before you approached me... Could it be? Has this heavenly melody been etched into your very soul?!" "What?" Maya asked, "You mean the song by my friend's daughter and niece?" Cap'n Cuttlefish then hummed the first few notes of the song that has been etched into Inkling DNA for generations. "That's it!" Maya shouted, "When I woke up in an alley in Calamari County, that song was ringing in my ears!" Cap'n Cuttlefish coughed and said, "My granddaughters wrote that song!" "Anyways," the Cap'n said "I'll take that stunned silence as a YES! I've heard tell of Octarians whose souls were etched by those squidtastic grooves... But that was a couple years back, during Agent 3's battle with DJ Octavio. Still... I can't shake the feeling that this is related somehow. In any case, sorry for surprising on you back there. Any fan of the Squid Sisters is a friend of mine! I mean that with all of my hearts. Now dust yourself off and find your land legs. We need to get moving! Let's find a way outta here!"
They walked through a shut-down train entrance blocked off by danger tape and found themselves in an old train car. "Which way should we go?" Maya asked. "That-away" Cap'n Cuttlefish said while pointing to the left. Then he charged ahead, but quickly fell over, clutching his back. "You, Maya!" he shouted "hand me my cane, will ya?" so Maya picked up the old Bamboozler and handed it to him, then helped him get up. "Thanks!" He said, then charged forward more slowly.
