That night Amethyst slept restlessly, tossing and turning as a movie played in her head.
She was running on through the darkness, trees surrounding her as a Full Moon shone brightly in the night sky.
Simultaneously this person or animal seemed to be her, and yet not her. Her thoughts were muddled, unable to think of anything outside of pure animal instinct.

Aliens? Gems? These were concepts foreign to her. Using the tremendous, primal power that surged within her to rend living flesh, be it from human or animal, was foremost on her mind.
A silhouette loomed before her. It was a hunter bearing a shotgun. Too late he turned to face his attacker and a scream echoed through the surrounding woods.
His dog, stunned at what had just transpired, fled whimpering in terror.

Amethyst shot straight up from her bed, her breaths coming is great gasps as she clutched the sheets beneath her.
Her eyes were wide and her body covered in sweat.

"Wh-What?!", she gasped. "Oh, thank God. It was just a dream.", she closed her eyes, trying to calm herself. Her breath slowed and she inhaled deeply, letting it out slowly before opening her eyes again.

She threw herself backward onto the bed, her arms over her head as she blew the hair away her eyes and stared at the ceiling. "Man...", she thought to herself. "I Reeeeeaaalllly hope that wasn't a premonition."

This day, four days before the Full Moon, Amethyst decided to give into her better judgement and seek out Garnet.

"I'm glad you came to me.", said the visored Gem as they sat on the beach, watching the sun on the water, and the waves lapping lazily onto the sand. "So, you want me to use my future-vision to find out whether this dream of yours was really just a dream."

"It did seem pretty real at the time.", said Amethyst.
"Look at me.", said Garnet as she removed her visor and took Amethysts hands in hers. They each gazed into the other's eyes and Amethyst felt her heart stir.
It seemed like minutes before Garnet finally broke her gaze and replaced her visor. "That dream you had... Was just a dream."

"Wheeeew!", said Amethyst, letting out a long whistling breath. "That's a relief!"

"So long as you stick to your plan, You won't be hurtin' anyone.", she continued, putting a comforting hand on Amethyst's shoulder, directly above the three scratches that the vicious beast had inflicted on her, but which were now no more than faint lines on her purple skin.

"Thanks, Garnet. You've been a big help.", she said.

The next few days passed fairly quickly. Amethyst participated in a baseball game along with Garnet, Pearl, Steven, Peridot, and a number of other residents of Beach City. The teams were mixed so as to provide a fair game.
Rose had decided to skip the event. She explained that, due to her vampiric nature, she did not want to risk walking in front a reflective surface in public and in broad daylight.
After this, Amethyst was invited by Vidalia to a rave-party for the adult citizens of Beach-city, which was to take place on the day after the full moon.
She promised herself that she would attend.

Amethyst could not help but notice that Rose had become rather distant of late, to everyone, even Steven and Pearl.
She would be seen often outside at night, staring motionless at the glittering stars in the sky. Sometimes Pearl could be seen with her as they whispered softly to one another.
Amethyst did not know specifically what they were looking at, but it certainly wasn't the Moon that seemed to concern them most at those times.

The morning of the full moon dawned early as Amethyst rose quickly from her bed. She really didn't feel any different than she normally did, except for perhaps the feeling of having a little more energy than was usual. This surprised her.

"Huh.", breathed Amethyst. "Maybe Pearl and Rose are wrong and I'm not a werewolf after all."
She thought about the scholarly Pearl and her hoard of books. "Pretty unlikely.", she grumbled.
Amethyst busied herself for the rest of the day by jogging, fishing with Steven, and rescuing a baby bird that had fallen out of its nest.

As it came time to leave she said goodbye to everyone. Aside from her usual casual-wear, she wore her long, wild hair free and unbound.

"I like your hair, Amethyst.", Steven said smiling. "It looks good that way."
"Thanks, Steve-O!", replied Amethyst. "I just thought today would be a good day to let my hair down. I mean REEEAAALLLY let my hair down, if you know what I mean.". She laughed, breaking whatever tension remained and allowing them to laugh along with her.

"Don't worry, I'll be back tomorrow!", she was sure to add.
"Garnet said that as long as I stick to the plan, I'll be fine along with everyone else.". She looked over at Garnet who nodded and smiled at her while giving a thumbs-up.
Amethyst smiled and gave her own thumbs-up in return.

It had been a rather quiet drive up into the distant hills surrounding Beach City as music played softly on the car's radio.

"Now remember, Amethyst." began Pearl "The instant you feel yourself start to change, remove your clothes so that they can remain undamaged."

"Geez, I know, P.", retorted Amethyst. "You don't have to tell me three times."

"Don't blame me.", replied pearl, becoming annoyed in her turn. "You've neglected to read up on your condition despite having almost a month to do so. It's incumbent upon me to remind you of these things.."

"What can I say, I'm not much of a reader...", replied Amethyst. "But I know the basics. Most of this other stuff is just common sense, really. Like, I don't want to get my clothes ruined. Common sense.
I'll let you be the expert on this stuff. I just wanna live my life and not have to think about it too much for the other 29 days of the month. You get me?"

"Alright." replied Pearl. "Suit yourself."

They drove on in silence as the sun set, dusk approaching...

"It's getting dark.", said Pearl. "The Moon will be rising soon."
She glanced over at Amethyst who shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She was staring forward absently when suddenly both of her hands jerked upward, moving swiftly to her temples.
"OWWH!", she cried.

"Amethyst, are you okay?!", asked a concerned Pearl.

"Uhhhrrrnnng!", was Amethyst's only reply as her balled fists clutched tightly the hair on both sides of her head.

"Oh, no!", breathed Pearl. "Not yet!"

Pearl slowed her car to a stop on the deserted road as she heard Amethyst, whose breaths were now coming deep and fast, fumbling with her seat-belt before finally pulling it off herself.
Her body lurched forward as she gripped at the dashboard with both hands, her eyes shut tightly.
"HHNNNNNNGGGGGGGGHHHHH!", she groaned through gritted teeth. "IT HURTS!"

"ALREADY?!", said Pearl frantically. "But the Moon's not up yet!".

Amethyst's grip on the dashboard tightened. "AAHHH!", she cried. "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!", Amethyst's voice changing from one of pain to mocking laughter.

"Amethyst, you're alright?!", asked Pearl, her eyes still wide with fear. "AMETHYST, you almost gave me a heart-attack! I was about to kick you right out of my car and drive away! Maybe you can drive yourself next time."

"Don't sweat it, P!", answered Amethyst, her laughter finally abating. "I've got some time left. I can feel it. I'll be doing the sweating for both of us once the Moon rises.."

"It won't be a pleasant experience for either of us, Amethyst.", answered Pearl.

"You can't know that, Pearl", said Amethyst. "I might even like it.", she added in a husky, almost seductive voice.

"Amethyst, what's gotten into you?", replied Pearl

"Take a Wild guess." replied Amethyst, rolling her eyes.

Pearl made no answer as they continued driving, and as Full Moon began to rise over the treeline ahead of them, they both knew: they had reached their destination...

I think this is a good place to end the story, at least for now.

Pearl x Amethyst.
