I'm sorry for not updating soon for all you people who read my story. I couldn't figure out how to update. Give me some slack too, I'm not new to fan fiction, this is just my first time having account and posting a story. i'm also a huge procrastinator so updates are slow.
I see the woods; they are just up a head. When I get to the fence I have to go under it because the fence is supposed to be electrified. As soon as I am in the woods I grab my bow and arrows that I hid in the trunk of an old tree and put the quiver on my back. I start walking around and waiting for Mako to show up. Mako is my boyfriend. We kept it a secret from almost everyone, because we didn't want to tell them and then one of us gets ships to the games and doesn't come back. The only person who knows about us is Mako's little brother Bolin. Even though Bolin is two years younger than Mako, we still call him Mako's little brother. We've known each other for about four years. I met him in the woods when I was hunting. He was thirteen at the time and I was twelve. He had to find food for his family just like me. Our fathers' were coal miners and his father was in the same explosion that killed mine. His mother died of a sickness a few years ago.
"Hey Korra", I heard.
I turned around and just a couple feet away from me I saw Mako and standing right next to him was Bolin. Bolin was a little shorter than he was, pale skin, and black wavy hair. Mako was almost the complete opposite; he had tan skin from being out in the woods since he was thirteen and black spiky hair. He was wearing long jeans, a dark green t-shirt, an even darker shade of green for his sleeveless vest, and hunting boots. Bolin was wearing black shorts, a long sleeve green shirt, and sneakers. Most people in city twelve mistake Mako and I for brother and sister cause we look almost a like, but what separates us is that my eyes are a cerulean blue and his are amber and our hair.
"What are you doing here Bolin?" I inquired. He doesn't know how to hunt. Come to think of it, Mako told me that he won't even go near the woods. That's how much it frightened him.
"I thought we could train him how to hunt; after all I think it would be best if he learned from the master. What do you think Korra?" Mako stated with a smile towards me.
"I guess it will be alright," I replied, but I was very unsure about training Bolin. "Where is his bow?" I said looking at Mako, but he just shrugged. "Bolin have you even used a weapon?"
He responded with a perplexed look on his face "No, not really"
The next few hours were agony. It was like trying to teach a child to do something they hate. Mako had to face the facts Bolin wasn't cut out to hunt. During that time I was able to shoot three squirrels and one rabbit
We then proceed to our secret hide out. It is has an amazing panoramic view. If you look out you can see the mountains and it looks like rolling hills because so much of it is covered by trees. There are really no words to describe it except that it is really breath taking. Since it's hidden behind tall bushes we couldn't find it until a few months ago.
"Wow! This is an amazing place," exclaimed Bolin as soon as we showed him this.
We sit a few feet away from the bushes in the high grass. Mako then takes something out of his bag that I hadn't seen him caring around. When I see what he pulls out my mouth starts to water.
"Oh my gosh is that real?" I say in such an exciting voice you wouldn't believe it was me. What he pulled out surprised me. A fresh piece of beef jerky. Beef is harder to come by in 12.
He starts to laugh and says, "Yeah, here, it's for you," and he hands it to me. I split it into three pieces and hand one to Mako and the to Bolin.
"How much did it cost you?" I replied
"Not a lot, like usually. I think the man felt a little sorry for me when I stopped by the bakery this morning, but don't worry too much about it ok?" Sometime had passed and he stated, "We could do it you know?"
Looking confused, I asked, "Do what?"
"Leave and never look back. You know we could bring our families too."
"We wouldn't make it," I said in a doubtful tone.
"I think we would," he says.
"Whatever." I say.
"Oh come on Korra, you know that would be better than this this place we call home. It would also be a good place to settle down to. You may not want to, but I would like to have kids."
And as soon as he says that my head snaps up and a look of surprise crosses my face, but he doesn't notice. He was just looking straight ahead. It bothers me a little that he can have any girl he would like. He's handsome, charming, he's everything you want in a guy and more, but yet he chose me. I see the looks he gets when we are in school or just walking in town. I want to hold his hand or just do something to show them that he is mine and I am his, but that would mean revealing that we're together. We're waiting to tell are families that, but after we each escape the reaping. We want to get married but we're too afraid of being pulled into the games. He has three more years before he is out, I have four, and Bolin has five.
"If I didn't live here of course," he adds, stopping my train of thought.
"But you." I snap at him,
"Forget it" he snaps back.
"Okay guys it's getting late we should get going" said Bolin nervously, making him now noticed.
"Okay sure" Mako said
And with that we got up and left. The walk back to the fence was quiet and awkward. The air was a little tense from are previous argument.
We stopped by my house first.
"Go on home Bolin, I'll be there soon", Mako said and then turned to me. We walked up the steps to the porch and looked back to make sure the fifteen year old boy went home and to see if someone was watching us.
"Hey, wear something pretty, okay", he said softly cupping my cheek
"For you and Aster only."
He leaned down slowly and lightly kissed me. Every time he kisses me it's so tender and sweet like he is afraid that I will disappear right in front of him. He pulls away too soon for my liking.
"See you soon."
"Wait, Mako I forgot to ask you, how many times is your name in?"
"Don't worry about, okay. See you soon"
"Yeah, see you." And with that he left and I turned to go into the house.
