Shadowkit jolted awake from the dream, his eyes still closed. He lay in the nest in the nursery. He laid down his head, whatever the dream meant, it was important somehow. But he did not know of what.

The next thing he thought was wonder. Wonder of what the nursery looks like.

Shadowkit blinked open his eyes for the first time. The nursery was big, several little branches poked out from the sides. He thought of how small it felt before.

Behind him he saw a reddish brown she-cat lay, her belly, and muzzle, were white. Beside him and her was a dark gray tom kit, with the same belly and muzzle as the reddish brown she-cat. Their scents told him, the she-cat was Applepool, and the tom was wolfkit.

Shadowkit at his own pelt, unlike Applepool or wolfkit, his fur was black, just plain black. He looked down at his chest, no white, he was unique.

Shadowkit nudged wolfkit, who just squeaked. That was enough to wake Applepool, who looked over at him, her gold eyes shone when they locked eyes. "You opened your eyes." she purred.

Shadowkit looked at wolfkit, who he could tell was awake. "Will he be able to open his eyes?"

Applepool shook her head. "You were pretty early coming out, it surprised everyone. He was a little later, give him time."

Shadowkit sighed, and then looked over at the big opening in the nursery. "Can I go outside?"

Applepool shook her head. "Not until your brother opens his eyes."

Shadowkit groaned. "But that could take forever."

"Patience little one." Applepool soothed.

Shadowkit lay his head back down on his paws. 'But I want to see what the camp looks like!'
