Chapter 2.

"Wow. I've missed this place. My dreams didn't do it justice."

"Dreams? What happened in these dreams?" He laughed.

I interlocked my fingers through his and pulled him gently to a patch of abnormally green grass. I sat down and waited for him to join me.

"Well, I have dreams about me and you."

"Yes…" He waited for me to expand on my very unintelligent statement as he sat down, facing me.

"Well… last night, I dreamt that I came here with you. And it was a lovely dream. I really enjoyed it."

"Oh." He smiled at me and seemed to decide not to press the matter further, content with what he had heard already.

I lied down on the grass and closed my eyes as the sun was deciding to peek out from behind the fluffy clouds, and I didn't feel like being blinded. I felt Edward's body lie down next to me and I squinted at him.

He was so beautiful; his body shining like thousands of diamonds.

He saw me staring at his face and chuckled at me. I probably looked like a freak of actual nature anyway.

"Whatcha looking at? I sparkle, so what?" He winked at me and I laughed.

"I'm soooo jealous Edward. If only I could look like a weird freak in the sunlight, oh joy!"

I heard a low growl build up in the bottom of his throat and I stopped smiling instantly. As soon as I stopped smiling, he stopped growling and stroked my face.

"Bella sweetheart, I'm joking with you, I'm not angry! I promise you I'm not!"

"Oh, I knew that," I lied. Deep down, I knew he would never hurt me but sometimes it caught me off guard when he did things like growling, his face was so serious.

Edward looked into my eyes and I felt like he was probing me for some information that he may have missed.

He obviously didn't find anything though, because not long later, he turned to look up at the sky. I followed his lead and studied the clouds for what seemed like ages, seeing if I could make out any funny pictures in them.

A short while later, the clouds drifting to the south started to darken as they passed and I snapped out of my reverie to alert Edward of the rain that was sure to come.

"Edward, the rain… shall we leave?"

"Isabella, we will leave when you would like to leave, not before and not after."

WOW, he was waaaay too good for me!

I nodded and continued to look into the sky.

I felt eyes on my face and I glimpsed Edward's roving eyes. At that point, I felt the first drop of rain water hit me on the nose, but before I could reach to wipe it away, Edward and dabbed at it with his own cold fingers. I shivered involuntarily and Edward withdrew his hand hastily.

"No, it was the wind Edward. Not you, don't worry." I reassured him, whether it was a lie or not, I don't know.

"Even so, we should get you home. I wouldn't want to take you back to your house with icicles hanging off your face would I? I don't think that Charlie would be very happy with that, and I wouldn't want him wasting a bullet on me."

"You know he wouldn't do that."

"I know. But still, let's go home."

I consented and Edward picked me up, cradled in his arms like a baby until we reached the fringe of trees waiting to hide us from public view as we sped through the forest like a leopard.

"Would you like to lie like this? Or would you prefer it if you were on my back?" Always bothering to ask me about my preferences, that was Edward for you.

I thought about the answer, lying as I was at the moment was unbelievably comfortable, to say I was lying in his stone arms, but I felt more of a thrill when I was on his back. The wind rushed through my hair more and I could see the wildlife surrounding us clearer. "Like I was on the way here please."

He spun me around quickly so that I was on his back. The journey home was much like the journey to the meadow before, but it wasn't boring. I still found it entertaining to feel the adrenaline pump through my veins.

We arrived back to the trail in the woods in less time than it had taken before, and he set me down on my feet, but placing a hand firmly around my waist so that I wasn't likely to stumble over uprooted trees or roots, or even my own feet which I had done many times before.

"When I become a vampire, I'm going to study astrology. You know… constellations and all that. I'm sure it takes a lot of time, but it's not like I'll be running out of time."

"Carlisle enjoys that too. I personally have never had in interest in it. But, do what you will; we will have all eternity to entertain ourselves."

I refrained from laughing at the words 'entertain ourselves'. Oh how I would love to entertain myself with Edward, but that kind of thing was way off in the distance.

We took a slow walk back to my house, not caring about the rain that was now pelting through the leafy canopy above us, just enjoying the moment. Before we emerged into the street where I lived, he kissed me just once. It was nothing more than just a simple kiss, but those kisses meant the most. They showed me that he didn't just care about material things like my body. He cared about me. After that kiss, he kissed me once more on my nose then smiled at my dumbstruck expression.

"I love that," I told him at the sight of the confusion on his face.

"Good. I love you."

"I love you too, for eternity."

"Forever, until we leave this world together." His confirmation of my promising future made me so full of joy that I couldn't rein it back in once it had begun. I kissed him, so fiercely that I completely forgot about where we were. All I knew was that I was kissing Edward, and that was all that mattered. Now, and forever, I promised myself.
