Katniss POV

I heard a twig suddenly snap behind us. Me and Gale turned round, my arrow raised. I recognised that face. Peeta Mellark! His family ran the Bakery. I remember back to a couple of days ago at school.

Me and Gale sat around a round table eating our lunch or thin plastic

"Um, do you mind if I sit here? My name's Peeta." Gale nods. As Peeta sits down I can't help glancing up and noticing his deep blue eyes. Eyes that are looking at me. I look quickly back down at my lunch.

"Peeta, what happened to your eye? And hand?" I ask. I follow the cut across the top of his hand then my eyes look at the cut just below his eyebrow.

"I slipped and my hand hit a branch. I didn't know about my eye." As I look at him, judging whether he was just an employer of the Capitol, to see if anyone was hunting but after a while I decided against it. I can also tell that he was lying. He knows I know that to.

"Must have been a very sharp branch." Gale says, but doesn't question anything. I rummage in my bag and pull out a plaster.

"Here! For your hand." I smile.

Peeta POV

Those eyes. I snap out of my daydream quickly because I notice she's said something and holding out a plaster.

"Thanks." I say. She grabs some moss out of a tree and comes towards me.

"Sit down." She says. I obey and sit down on a tree stump and she crouches in front of me and puts my hand on her knee palm down. She gently rubs moss around the outside to clear up the blood. Then Gale comes over with some water and passes it to her. She chucks the moss away and slowly pours water over the cut. I notice now, looking at it that it's quite deep and thick. After a minute or so she screws the lid back on the water bottle and passes it back to Gale who puts it in his rucksack. Katniss then scrunches her hand inside her coat and holds het outside with her fingertips and daps the outside with the edge of her coat to dry it from the water before applying the plaster. She stands up and holds my hand to pull me up too before reaching up with both hands and looks at my cut above my eye.

"I think that'll scar." She says apologetically.

"Don't worry," I say when she drops her hands down back to her sides, "It wasn't your fault." She smiles and I smile back. Then we carefully leave the forest.
