"Armin, oh God, Armin, wake up-"
"Shut up, Eren, you brat! You did this!"
"N-No, I di- no... no..."
"He said shut up, so shut up."
Armin heard chains and footsteps and voices and the ground was soft and his whole body still hurt and-
Eren.
He jolted up and tried to claw away, gasping and crying and begging him to stop all over again.
Hands were placed on his shoulder to push him down.
Armin screamed louder. His shoulder hurt.
"Jean, you idiot, don't touch him!"
Armin tried opening his eyes, but they were as heavy as lead.
"Armin," Was that Levi? Why did he sound so nice? "Stop crying. Stop screaming."
Armin tried to obey, he really did. His bottom lip quivered and his eyes were still wet. In the end, he couldn't stop crying and whimpering like some poor baby. It was humiliating.
He knew for sure that Jean, Eren, and Levi were here. When did that happen? Wasn't Eren-
Oh, God.
His breath hitched and he twitched one of his aching hands, forcing it to go lower, to his bottom, but the gentle grasp of someone stopped him.
"Don't." It was Levi. "We don't know what happened with Eren. We're waiting for Erwin and Hanji to come and assess the situation. He- He beat you up pretty badly and he raped you." Levi was straight to the point. But what was there to avoid? "We don't know the damage that has been done, but we've bandaged you up as best as we could."
Why was Levi being so nice? Shouldn't he be making poop jokes and calling everyone a brat? Armin liked it better that way. He liked it better when everything was normal. He liked it better when his best friend hadn't shifted into a half-titan half-human monster.
His head lolled back on his shoulder. His head was aching. It hurt.
Everything hurt.
Armin fell unconcious again.
..o..
The sound of water dripping woke Armin up for the next time. He turned his head to the side, finding himself laying on something comfortable and warm. His whole body was warm, and the pain had faded to a dull ache. He forced his eyes to open, his pupils dialating to help him adjust to the darkness.
"Ah, I see you're awake." A voice piped up from the corner, the brunette walking over with a bowl full of water and a sopping wet cloth in her hands.
"Who...?" Armin croaked out, his throat raw and sore from all the screaming. "W-What... where...?" Armin tried to sit up, but Hanji hurried over and pushed him down.
"No, no, no, you silly goose. Stay laying down. It would hurt to sit up." Hanji sat down on a stool beside the bed Armin was laying in. "You're in a room we closed off as an infirmary. Do you remember what happened?"
Armin's brows furrowed together. What... happened...?
He had so many questions.
First of all, who was this female? Why did was he aching all over?
"A-Ah, who are you?" Armin was always honest.
Hanji's expression fell. "Oh, dear." She was silent for a moment, dipping the cloth into the water and wringing it out before putting it on Armin's forehead. "Do you know who you are."
"Of course." What kind of question was that? "Armin Arlert."
"How old are you?"
"Fifteen."
Hanji made a noise in the back of her throat. "Could you tell me the last thing you remember?"
"W-Well, I was going out to get food for my parents and grandpa from the market... W-What happened? Where am I...?" Armin's breath hitched in the back of his throat. Had he been kidnapped? His family was probably worried to death!
"Don't worry, Armin. You are safe here. Could you tell me a bit about yourself...? Friends, occupation? Are you in the military?" Hanji stared at Armin intently, causing the younger blond to feel nervous.
"U-Um... I... I don't have that much friends... Actually, I don't have any friends. N-No, I'm not in the military..." Why was this all necessary? "I work on a farm as a gardener."
"Ah, thank you, Armin. I will return shortly." Hanji rose from her seat and left the room, leaving Armin with his own thoughts.
..o..
"This isn't good." Hanji sighed, sitting atop of Erwin's desk.
"What's the matter?" He inquired, leaning forward with his hands folded neatly together.
"Armin woke up. The healing process is going fine, though I am worried about..." She coughed awkwardly. "His... backside. And, another thing... Ah, hahaha..." She rubbed the back of her neck.
"Spit it out." Levi snapped from his position leaning against the wall.
"I think he might have amnesia. Eren said that he had smashed Armin's head against the rocks, correct? That could be why. Another factor we have to consider is that Armin could have gone through so much shock his mind shut down, blocking out all these negative memories. He thinks his parents and his grandfather is alive. He said he doesn't have any friends and that he works as a gardener." Hanji sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Eren is still in the cell, correct?"
Levi grunted an affirmation.
"Then I think it would be best if he didn't find out about this. We'll tell the others shortly. I think you two should come and greet him."
..o..
Hanji returned soon with an angry looking fellow and a giant man who looked like he owned the place.
Armin's eyes widened. Oh, no. Was he in trouble? These people looked important, not people who would kidnap a fifteen year old boy! His chest rose and fell quickly, his breaths becoming short and quick.
"Calm down." Levi snapped, sitting on the chair Hanji had once been sitting on. Armin jumped with a start, staring at Levi with wide, blue eyes.
"A-Am I in trouble?" He murmured softly.
"No." Levi glanced up at the two others. They had delt with this kind of stuff before, though everyone was different. They would see how it went. "You got into... an accident. A bad accident. We can't give you the details right now."
Armin nodded, feeling a giant weight lifted off of his chest. Still, what kind of accident could make him hurt this bad?
"My name is Levi, the bimbo back there is Hanji, and Mr. Eyebrows is Erwin. Got that?" Levi pointed to the two others when he named them.
Armin nodded again.
"For now, you are going to rest in this room. No objections. Once we think you are ready we will explain to you the details."
Another nod. Armin was getting sleepy.
The drowsiness probably showed on his expression, for Levi stood. "We will see you when you awake next."
The three of them left.
..o..
Mikasa, Jean, Sasha, Connie, and Christa were all seated at a table in the dimly lit dining room, all half-heartedly eating, save for Sasha. They were still dwelling on the events that had occured the previous day.
If only I had been there, Mikasa had said.
Jean wanted to comfort her and tell her that she didn't know this would happen, but he just didn't have the energy. It was his fault. All his fault. He was the one holding down Eren.
He slammed his fist against the table in a sudden burst of rage.
Armin could be dead.
And it would all be his fault.
Before anyone could question him, their higher-ups walked in.
"A-Armin?" Mikasa stuttered out uncharacteristicly. She was so terrifyed for her best friend.
"He is alive." Hanji said with a nod. The whole table of teenagers seemed to let out a content sigh. "Though..."
Mikasa's head shot up, her eyes narrowed dangerously.
"He has amnesia. He thinks his family is still alive and that he isn't in the military, and he doesn't seem to remember any of you."
Mikasa hung her head. She felt like she wanted to cry. Tears stung the corners of her eyes, but she willed them away. Sasha, on the other hand, was freely crying. Connie was patting her shoulder, comforting the poor girl.
"Eren is not allowed to know about this until we decide the time is right." Levi butted in. "You can all visit Armin tomorrow, when he wakes up."
