"Speaking"

'Thinking'

~~~~~~~~Chi-Chi's P.O.V.~~~~~~~~
It's been about 10 minutes since I called Bulma. She still isn't here… I've been going about my daily chores, trying to keep my mind busy until Bulma gets here. Goku is looking worse now than he did only 10 minutes ago. He's extremely pale, and his breathing is labored. I wish Bulma would get here already! Just then, there was a knock on the door. I quickly answered it. Bulma was finally here, carrying a big black bag.
"Thank Kami, you're here, Bulma! Something is wrong with him!" I almost screamed, feeling panicked.
Bulma quickly glanced over at Goku, and turned back to me. "Shh… You need to calm down, Chi-Chi. You're going to wake him up if you keep talking so loudly." she whispered to me.
"I'm sorry, Bulma. I'm just so worried. Goku has never been sick before." I tell her, as quietly as I could. I really didn't want to disturb Goku's sleep. Especially, since he's sick.
We walked over to the couch together. Bulma felt Goku's cheeks and forehead. "Yeah, he is definitely running a fever. He feels like he's on fire…" She opened the bag she brought with her, and took out a stethoscope. She took a listen to his heart beat. I saw a concerned look on her face. "His heart is beating very irregularly. I think something is wrong with his heart… Chi-Chi, I really think we shou-" Bulma's sentence was cut short, when Goku started screaming.
We both looked at him with concern. I've never heard him scream like that before. I noticed that Goku had woken up, and he seemed to be in a great deal of pain, his left hand clutching the area where his heart lay. I cupped his face in my hands, and made him look at me. "Goku, what's wrong, sweetheart. Don't you dare tell me that you're just tired." I said to him. Goku was just looking at me with wide eyes, seemingly, in too much pain to answer. Bulma placed her hand on my shoulder, trying to get my attention. I turned to face her, tears starting to form in my eyes.
"Chi-Chi, he's needs to be in the hospital. He's very sick, and I don't know what it is. We have to go now. The sooner we find out what's wrong with him, the sooner we can do something to make him better." she explains to me. I nodded. "We need to get him on the jet I used to get here. You grab his upper body, Chi-Chi. I've got his legs. Ok, on 3… 1… 2… 3!" We lifted Goku the best we could. He's heavier than a normal person, because he's a big bulk of muscle. Thankfully, they were able to carry Goku, and get him in the jet on their own.
'Thank Kami, Goku decided not to wear his weighted clothes today. If he had, Bulma and I wouldn't have been able to lift him' I thought to myself. Bulma got situated in the pilot seat, and we took off for West City Hospital. Bulma, wisely, decided to call the hospital ahead of time, to let them know we were going to be there. Everyone knows Bulma well because of her father, Dr. Briefs, who created the Dino Caps everyone all over the world uses. So, it was no surprise when the hospital said that they would get a room ready for Goku immediately.
The ride to the hospital is rough. Goku is in so pain, and there isn't anything I can do for him until we get to the hospital. Goku tossed and turned in agony the whole way there. Sometimes letting out screams of pain. Bulma and I were at our wits end by the time we got to the hospital. Goku was suffering, and it was torturing us that we couldn't help him.
When we arrived at the hospital, doctors and nurses came out with a gurney, lifted Goku up, and placed him on the gurney. They rushed him in. I tried to follow him back, but a nurse stopped me.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. You'll have to wait here." she told me. I turned to her with tears in my eyes.
"Are you serious?! He is my HUSBAND!" I shouted at her, putting an emphasis on the word, husband.
"I'm truly sorry, ma'am. It's our policy. The doctor will come and get you when they know something." the nurse told me as she walked away. I sunk into one of the many uncomfortable chairs they had around the Waiting Room.
'I guess I don't have a choice. I have to wait. Please be ok, Goku…' I thought to myself. Bulma's voice brought me out of my thoughts.
"Chi-Chi, is it ok with you if I call the guys, and tell them what's going on?" she asks me. I gave her a look of disapproval. "Chi-Chi… You need to understand. They are like family to him. His brothers. I know it's not the same, but I think Krillin and the others have just as much of a right to be here as you do. You need to realize that you aren't the only person on this planet that loves and cares for Goku." she said to me. I sighed.
"Ok, Bulma. You can call them." I replied.
"Thank you, Chi-Chi." she says as she starts to dial the phone number for Kame House in her cell phone.
~~~~~~~~Kame House~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~Normal P.O.V.~~~~~~~~
Master Roshi and Oolong were enjoying their female aerobics program, when the phone started ringing.
Ring. Ring.
"Krillin! Could you stop training for a minute and answer the phone?!" Master Roshi called to Krillin. Krillin walked in, looking a little annoyed that Master Roshi would interrupt his training just to answer a stupid phone call. He picked up the phone.
"Yo. Kame House. Krillin speaking." he says, still annoyed.
"Krillin! Thank goodness you answered!" said Bulma. Krillin immediately noticed from the sound of her voice, that Bulma was scared or worried about something.
"Hey, Bulma. What's up? How come you sound so upset?" Krillin asked.
"Krillin, it's Goku. Something is wrong with him. We aren't sure what it is yet. We're in the Waiting Room at West City Hospital." she was speaking very fast, and Krillin was having a hard time understanding her.
"Woah, woah, slow down! You're talking too fast! You said something about Goku? What's going on? Start over, and speak slowly this time." Krillin says to her.
"It's Goku, Krillin. He's running a terrible fever, and he's been having these horrible chest pains. I think there's something wrong with his heart. Chi-Chi and I are at West City Hospital right now." Bulma explained.
"What? That's crazy! Goku doesn't get sick!" said Krillin, not believing what he's hearing. Master Roshi and Oolong stopped paying attention to the TV when they heard Krillin say something about Goku being sick.
"I know, Krillin, but it's happening. He's sick. Healthy people don't have fevers, you know." Bulma said, sarcastically.
"I know that, Bulma. But Goku? Of all people? I just can't believe it. I want to be there. You said that you guys are at West City Hospital, right?" Krillin asked, now worried about the health of his best friend.
"That's right, Krillin. We're sitting in the Waiting Room right now. They wouldn't let us go back with him. So, we have to wait until the doctor comes to get us." Bulma said, sadly.
"Ok. I'll be there as soon as I can. I'm going to leave Kame House right now." said Krillin.
"Sounds good, Krillin. I'm going to call everyone else, and tell them what's going on too." said Bulma.
"Ok. Bye, Bulma. Take care." was the last thing Krillin said before he hung up the phone. He turned around to find Master Roshi and Oolong staring at him with concern.
"What's going on, Krillin? Goku is sick?" asked Oolong.
"Yeah, it appears that way. Chi-Chi and Bulma brought Goku to West City Hospital. I'm going there now. Goku needs us. You guys coming?" said Krillin
"Yes!" They said, in unison. Walking outside, Master Roshi held onto Krillin, while Oolong held onto Master Roshi. Krillin took off for the hospital as fast as he could, without losing his passengers.
'I hope it's nothing serious…' Krillin thought to himself, as he sped across the Earth.
~~~~~~~~1 Hour Later~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~West City Hospital~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~Chi-Chi's P.O.V.~~~~~~~~

All of Goku's friend's arrived about 30 minutes ago. They were all here. Krillin, Yamcha, Puar, Tien, Chiaotzu, Oolong, and the old pervert, Master Roshi. And then there was Vegeta. Mr. Prince of All Saiyans… What was he doing here, anyway? He hates Goku! He's been trying to kill him since he met him! There were two people that I noticed were still missing, though. Piccolo and Gohan. 'I guess Bulma wouldn't have been able to get ahold of them. Gohan doesn't own a cell phone. And I doubt that Piccolo is any different.' I was thinking to myself, as I heard someone call out my sons' name.

"Gohan!" called Krillin. I looked up, and I saw my son standing there, obviously confused about why we were at the hospital.

"Hi, Krillin!" said Gohan, happily.

'My poor baby. He doesn't know… Once he finds out why we're here, my little boy won't be happy anymore…' I thought to myself. Gohan walked up to me. When he saw my face, I saw a look of concern on his face.

"What's wrong, mom? You look like you've been crying. And what are we doing here? Mr. Piccolo won't tell me anything. And…" Gohan looked around at everyone, and saw that someone very important was missing from the group of martial artists. "And where is daddy?" Gohan asked, starting to get upset. I noticed that a lot of Goku's friends, namely, Bulma, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Master Roshi, became very quiet at the mentioning of Goku. I got down to my sons' level, and put my hands on his shoulders.

"Your daddy is sick, Gohan. We're here so we can find out what's wrong with him." I explained to my son, gently.

"He'll be ok, though. Right, mom?" he asked me.

"I can't answer that right now, Gohan. The doctors are working on your daddy right now. We won't know anything until they come for us. So, we have to try and be patient, ok?" I said to him.

"Ok…" Gohan said, sadly. A few minutes later, the doctor finally came to give us some news. Hopefully, it was good news.

"Son Chi-Chi?" the doctor called. I stood up. He walked toward me. "Hi there. I'm Dr. Yukinojo. I've been the one working on your husband, since you brought him in this morning."

"Please tell me what's wrong with him. It's not that bad, right? I mean, he's never been sick before. So…" I said. The doctor interrupted me.

"I'm sorry, Chi-Chi. We ran a series of tests, and unfortunately, it's not good. I'm diagnosing your husband with the Heart Virus. It's a brand new virus, it just popped up recently." the doctor explained. I was a little confused… Goku's friends seemed confused, as well.

"But, he'll be ok, right? I mean, you can just give him some medicine, and he'll be ok?" I asked, hopeful.

"I'm sorry, but in all of the cases of the virus we've seen so far… I'm afraid none survived…" said the doctor.

"What did you say…?" I asked, quietly, but the doctor heard me.

"Goku is going to die, ma'am. I'm very sorry. All we can do is try and keep him comfortable, and manage his pain the best we can." the doctor explained.

I was speechless. I couldn't believe this. This wasn't happening. Goku couldn't be dying from a virus. It just… Couldn't be possible. At least, I thought it couldn't…

"How long does he have?" I asked, sadly.

"About a week. Maybe less." he said. I started crying.

"Can we see him now…?" I asked, my voice sounding shaky from trying to control my tears.

"Yes, you may. You can all follow me." said the doctor, as he started to lead us towards Goku's room. I held Gohan's hand, tightly. The walk from the Waiting Room to Goku's room seemed to take forever. The whole time I couldn't stop thinking, 'This can't be happening… Why is this happening…?'

We finally got to Goku's room. I opened the door, and walked in, with Goku's friends following behind me. Gohan couldn't hold in his tears anymore. He started crying, running up to his fathers' bedside. "Daddy!" he cried. I went to Goku's other side.

"Gohan, shh. Your daddy is sleeping, sweetie. He needs his rest. You need to speak, quietly in here, ok?" I said to him.

"Ok. Sorry, mom. I'm just… So worried about daddy. He isn't really going to die, is he, mom?" he asked me, almost begging me to lie to him. But I can't do that. I can't lie to my son. Even if I know the truth will hurt him. He has to know the truth, or it'll be that much harder for him when Goku passes away. Tears were forming in my eyes again.

"I'm sorry, Gohan…" was all I could say to him.

"No…" he said, quietly, looking back at his father, sleeping. "NO!" he shouted, as he ran away.

"Gohan, come back!" I begged, but he either couldn't hear me, or he chose not to hear me. Goku's friends were a little shocked at Gohan's sudden outburst, but they understood. He was about to lose his daddy again… I looked at Goku, and I suddenly felt like Kami wanted to see how far I'll bend before I break. I felt like my heart was being torn apart.

'There has to be something we can do to save him. I can't just sit here and let him die… I love him too much.' I thought to myself. Suddenly, I got an idea. I jumped up, startling everyone, except Goku, who was still in a very deep sleep.

"Bulma. A cure." is all I says to her.

"What?" she asked, surprised at me.

"What if you made a cure for this thing?" I asked.

"That can take a very long time, Chi-Chi. Usually, cures take months or even years to be produced. The chances that I'd be able to make a cure for this within a week, are slim to none." she said apologetically.

"But you can try, can't you?" I asked.

"…"

"Please, Bulma! You're his only hope of beating this thing! Please… Please don't let him die…" I begged, as I started crying again.

"… Ok, Chi-Chi. I'll try. I'm going to need a blood sample from Goku first though." she said to me.

"Ok." I said

'Things might turn out ok, after all. I just hope Goku can hang on until Bulma makes a cure.' I thought to myself.

Well, that was Chapter 2 of, Down With A Sickness! Let me know how you liked it! :)
