Chapter 1: Old Enemies, New Things.

Pridelands

A new day starts and every animal was doing their on business, some were grazing, some at the watering hole, and some playing baobab ball. "Zuka Zama!" shouted a honey badger being chased by a lion cub while holding a fruit, "C'mon, Kion, I've seen Fuli run faster than you!" "Comparing me to Fuli, Bunga?" Kion challenged, "I'll show you fast!" Kion run at his full speed at his friend, then he pounced and pinned him to the ground, causing Bunga to drop to the baobab ball, rolling on it's own to a hole.

"OI!" a male voice shouted through, the duo went to look down through the hole, and the ball popped up along with a African gerbil, "OK, who's the wise mammal, here?" "That'll be me!" Bunga exclaimed, hand raise, Kion just shook his head, smiling, remembering the time Bunga thought that he was wise. "Sorry about that Mr. Kutetea," said Kion, "I pounced on Bunga and he dropped the baobab ball by accident. It won't happen again." "It's fine, boys," said Mr. Kutetea, "Just be careful, I just almost got attack by a fox yesterday, it was horrible." "You're attacked?" Kion asked, why did he let him or the other members of the Lion Guard know about this? The gerbil then continued, "Yes sir, that fox was about to dig me and my family out, I thought we were done for, but then a pebble just bopped em' right in the nose and he ran off, then some unknown mammal standing on his hind legs just came to me, reassuring me it's safe," "An unknown mammal, standing on his hind legs?" Kion asked, the gerbil nodded, now this really got him curious.

Mr. Kutetea continued, "I didn't know if I could trust him, then he just extended his paw, I think it was a paw, I don't know, anyways, I sniffed and felt his paw, somehow I had the feeling we're safe." Kion and Bunga looked at each other, an new mammal just appearing out of nowhere and helps them? "Hevi Kabisa." The lion cub said, then Bunga asked, "Did you say anything to him?" "Well, actually, yes," Mr. Kutetea said, "I told him thank you for saving my life, then I went back through the tunnel system I've dug and we slept. I don't we've seen him again." "Wow, we need to tell the rest of the Lion Guard about this!" Bunga exclaimed, as he quickly headed back to the hideout. "Bunga, wait!" Kion called out, but then turned his attention to the gerbil, "Again, so sorry about the baobab ball, Mr. Kutetea." "Oh, don't worry, I think you should go after him." The kind gerbil said to him, Kion nodded and ran towards Bunga's direction, but this still left him with many questions like, who and what is he? Why did he save Mr. Kutetea? Is he from here? So many questions that needed answered.

Eventually he caught up to the badger and stepped in front of him. "Hold on for a minute," Kion said, huffing, "We don't even know where to start, what he looks like, or where he came from-" "But Kion, think about it!" Bunga interrupted, "Whatever this mammal is, he could be someone we might have on the team!" "Have who on the team?" a young female voice asked, Bunga jumped from the voice as he turned around to that voiced belonged to Kion's older sister, Kiara. "Have who on the team?" she repeated, Bunga begins to stutter, not even sure what to say, should he tell her, or lie about it? "That's none of your business, Kiara." Kion retorted. "Actually, it is my business and I need to know you two were talking about." Kiara corrected her brother, "Now tell me, what were you two talking about?" "Oh boy, here we go again..." Bunga said in disbelief, this is the hundredth time they argued. "Why would you want to know?"

"Because I'm your sister."

"Still, you shouldn't barge into other's conversations."

"Can't you just at least tell me?"

"No, because it's official Lion Guard business!"

"That doesn't matter!"

"Yes it is!"

"Is not!"

Bunga just puts his paw on his hips and shook his head, so he spoke up, "OK you guys, can we just calm down for a second and-" "STAY OUT OF THIS, BUNGA!" Both Kion and Kiara shouted, Bunga puts his paws up in defence and backs up.

"Hey, Little B!" a voice calls out, the honey badger turn around to see a hippo and a cheetah, Beshte and Fuli, walk towards him. "Oh, hey Big B, Fuli, whatcha doin here?" he asked them. Fuli informs him, "Just came to get you and Kion, we've got trouble in the grazing fields, again." "Let me guess, another hyena attack?" the badger questions, they had to deal with Janja and his clan of hyenas every time, if they're causing trouble, they know what to do. "Actually, this is different!" called out another voice from the skies, it was Ono the Egret, he landed next Bunga and continued, "There's something strange going on, there's nothing wrong in the grazing fields, but the zebras are freaking out like crazy." "I bet it's the strange mammal Mr. Kutetea was talking about!" Bunga said excitingly, but then he heard no more brickering from the cubs, he slowly turn his head towards them. "Bunga!" Kion scold, his companion just chuckled nervously, then whistled. "OK, Kion, if you won't tell me, then he will," Kiara said, slyly, she walks towards the nervous badger, with a grin, "Bunga, could please come clean with me and tell me?" Now Bunga is getting very fidgety, without the princess noticing, behind her, Kion is mouthing something like, "Don't tell her!", so Bunga gave the thumbs up, "We're on the look out for a strange mammal." Bunga said with smile, Kiara gave Bunga a confused look, so did Ono, Fuli and Beshte, but Kion, what's he doing? He just groaned in frustration, he then mouthed again, "I said, 'Don't tell her!'" Bunga gave the thumbs up again, Kiara begins to question him again, "Strange mammal? Do you know what it looks like?" "Well, no," He answered, Kion groaning more, he couldn't believe what he's witnessing, has Bunga gone deaf? His comrade continues, "But I do know what we need to look for, a mammal standing on his hind legs." Then Bunga looked at Kion, who's just laying on his back with his paws covering his face and muffled groans can be heard. Bunga didn't understand, he did as he told, but then he realized something, he was suppose not to reveal to anyone but the Lion Guard, Bunga looks at Kiara with a worried look, as the princess smiled in triumph, then she turned at her younger brother. "Well, I guess that makes the both of us, I'll let mom and dad know about this," she said, as she headed back to Priderock, "Thank you, Bunga!"

Bunga looks at Kion as he got up and Kion shouted, "Bunga, ulifikiri nini?! Nimewaambieni hasa kinywa kwako, 'Usimwambie!' Kwa jina la wafalme wakuu, kwa nini hii inatokea?! Oh kwa upendo wa- " He covered his eyes with his paws in frustration. "Um, Kion?" Ono asked, Kion uncovers one eye and leaves the other eye covered, "There's trouble in the grazing fields, should we check it out?" "As long I can get this scenario out of my mind, absolutely." Kion said, "Alright guys let's go, til' the Pridelands ends!" "Lion Guard defends!" Everyone said together, as they head towards to the grazing fields.

Grazing Fields

"Hmm, nothing seems suspicious here." Fuli said, "You saw something that caused zebras to freak out, Ono?" "I know something did, I just don't know what." The egret said, he looks at Bunga, Beshte and Kion, searching for what cause the ruckus, "Any luck?" "No, in fact, I don't know what we're suppose to be looking for." Kion said, concerned. "Look harder." a rough voice said, everyone's now on high alert, they recognize that voice. Suddenly a hyena tackled Kion to the ground, but the cub clawed at his attacker, but he missed.

"Janja."

"Kion."

"So, the hyena decides to show up," Fuli proclaimed, coming to Kion's aid, "You're the one causing the zebras to freak out, aren't you?!" Janja gave her a confused look, but Fuli thinks he's pretending and protested, "Don't give us that, we can see through that disguise!" "You're joking me, right?" he questions them revoltingly, "Me and my boys were planning a full scale assault on you, but we didn't freak any zebras out."

This got the Lion Guard confused, if they didn't cause it, then who did? "Bah, whatever," the brute said, "Boys! Get them!" then on command, more hyenas showed up. The first two tackled down an off-guard Bunga, Kion saw this and charged at one of the hyenas, but somehow, the hyena dodged and pinned Kion down.

"Hapana!" Ono cried out, he dive bombs towards the hyenas, but then he got knocked in mid-air by Mzingo the vulture, then his attacker slammed him to the ground, pinning him too, that just leaves Fuli and Beshte.

Fuli sped her way to release her friends, but then she gets slammed by two hyenas, one from her right and the other from her front, knocking her down and getting pinned in the process.

Beshte rushed to help her, but as soon as he tried to, from the left of him was a rhino, charging in his direction, Beshte felt his left side, slamming into a rock slab. "Trying to get lucky, punk?" The rhino said threateningly, "All too easy, boss." "Ah, I see you've met my strongest of my clan, Mharibifu." Janja introduced to his new comrade, he then turned to his attention to Kion, walking towards him, "Impressive, huh, took us a while for to plan this, but it finally payed off." Kion was confused, how did they manage to beat them so easily? Janja then explained, "I had Mzingo and Mharibifu moniter every move that you do, how to counter them, all of it and now, we've finally got you where we want you." "Don't you mean you have got him where you want him?" Mzingo corrects him, "Because, it's your plan to kill Kion anyways." Kion's eyes were wide open, he want to kill him!? "Quiet, Mzingo!" Janja growls, "I want to enjoy this."

He pressed his front paw down on Kion's throat, so he can't use the roar, all Kion could do was trying to pry Janja off of him, but it's no use. "Oh, how long I've waited for this moment to arrive," Janja said to him, "For the only son of King Simba and Queen Nala to die at the claws of a hyena and no one remembering you." Janja's claws unsheathed themselves, ready for an attack, he pressed down on his hated enemy's throat harder, but this also gave the hyena an idea. "Just in case if you even try to get away..." He said trailing off, he signaled his clan, then the hyenas began to injure Kion's right hind leg, they clawed and bit his leg, Kion screaming in pain and agony. Janja looks at the work his clan had done, there are scratches, claw marks, bite marks, Janja smiled, "I must say you're in a pretty difficult situation here, lion cub, but there's something missing, hmm, what would that be?"

Kion looked at him worringly, wonder what this hyena in his twisted mind is going to do. "Oh, yes," He laughed, "I know exactly what's missing, boys!" The other hyenas hold his enemy down, Kion tried to get away, but the searing pain on his hind leg and the hyenas holding him down, caused him to fall. "Mharifibu, you know the drill." "Janja commanded. The rhino pried off of Beshte, but not before turning his head at him, saying, "I'll be back." He grabs a rock with his mouth and headed toward Janja and an injured Kion, he then position where the rock will, looking downwards at Kion, who has a scared look on his face. "Don't drop it!" Bunga shouted, Janja turned his head towards the screams, "Don't do it, Janja, I'm begging you, please!" "My, my, my," Janja said, mockingly, "The brave one, finally cracks, 'Please Mr. Hyena, don't drop that rock on my best friend's leg, please, please!', Heh, hate to brake it you pal, I'm not that kind of hyena who shows mercy, Drop it Mharibifu!" The rhino's head went up, while holding on the rock in his mouth. Kion and the Guard weren't prepared for what happens next.

The Tree of Life

"Swala, I told many times before," Rani, a brown lioness cub and leader of the Night Pride said, getting annoyed, "You can't have Bahati and Jitokeza as your partners, because that makes three and three doesn't mean partner does it?" "No, ma'am," said the brown lion cub, then he turned to the other two lion cubs, "Sorry, guys, I can't have both of you as my partners." Bahati shook his head in disapproval and Jitokeza groans, but Rani saw the both of them and said, "Don't sulk the both of you, I'm not gonna let that slide-" Then a scream coming from outside interrupted her, she turned her head towards the sound and saw a brown teen lion went towards the sound, Rani hurried outside from the Tree, so did too Swala, Bahati and Jitokeza. "Mlezi!" She calls out, the lion stops and turned around to face his leader, "Where are you going?" "You heard that scream do, didn't you?" he asked her, she nodded, "It sounds like it came from the Grazing Fields, should we check it out?" she nods again, then said, "I know who's scream that is, I'm just hoping that I'm wrong. Night Pride, let's go!" She then bolted towards to the Grazing Fields with her members following behind her.

Grazing Fields

Kion screams in agony as his leg has been broken by the rock dropped Mharifibu, tears running down from his eyes as the pain continued and just when Janja is about to get the job done, Rani came out of nowhere and tackled down the hyena and ran towards her friend. "Kion, are you alright?" she asked, but then she saw the claw and fang marks and looked at the broken rock slab, that really winds her up, she looks at the downed hyena, "Janja, you're gonna pay for this, Night Pride, get the Lion Guard out of here."

"He's not going anywhere, Mzingo, grab him and let us retreat to our territory." The hyena commanded, the vulture nodded. Mzingo looks at Ono and said, "Don't think that this is over, headfeathers." He then flies up and swoops down to pick up Kion with his talons, Rani wasn't expecting this at all as she see the vulture carrying her friend to the Outlands. "Once we're done knawing on his bones, you can have back, well, what's left of him anyways." Janja laughed as he and his clan retreated back to the Outlands. "COME BACK HERE!" Bunga shouted at Janja, but by the time they've gone, he's too late.

"We'll get Kion back, Bunga," Rani said to him, "But for now, let's head back to the Tree of Life and think up of a plan." Bunga nodded, he then looked at the Outlands, he doesn't know what to think, his best friend got kidnapped by the hyenas, how could've he let this happen?

The Tree of Life

"So they got Kion, what now?" Ono asked Rani. "Just give me a moment to come up with one." She said to him, everyone was trying to come with a plan on how they're gonna get Kion back. Fuli layed down, Beshte was pondering, Ono looked outside, The Night Priders are coming up with a plan with Rani, but Bunga, he just felt silent, ever since his friend was taken, Rani notices this and went to go check up on him.

"Hey, you ok?" she asks him, he just stayed quiet, "You know, I was in the same position you're in right now, one of my friends got captured once, I had many thoughts running through my mind, but I decided to stay focused and came up with a plan to get him back." "But this is different, Rani!" Bunga said to her, "This is my best friend we're talking about, the son of the king and queen of the Pridelands!" He put his back against the wall and slid down, sitting. He sighs and said, "If only I'd kept my muzzle shut about that strange mammal."

This caught Rani by surprise. "A-a strange mammal?!" She asked, Bunga nodded, "The same one who walks on their hind legs?!" He nodded again, then tilted his head in confusion. "Who told you about them?" She asks him, the honey badger told her about what the gerbil told him and Kion heard, "This-this is remarkable, an actual human, saving a resident of Pridelands' life, then that means it's true!"

Everyone got confused about this and looked at her. Excited, Rani told Fuli to have Simba and his family to come to the Tree of Life, so the cheetah did. "I'm sorry, but what's going on here?" Swala asked his leader. "Bunga, that human could be our hope on keeping the Circle of Life in balance," She proclaimed, "It's also believe that the this human and Kion will gain a special power, if there bond is strong enough, I-I can't stop thinking about this now!" Human, now that's no animal he ever heard of. "I'll explain everything when everyone is here.

Few minutes later...

Rani and Bunga was waiting outside for Simba, Nala and Kiara to arrive, she sees them and greets them. She lets them know of what happened and they were worried about what'll happened to Kion. "So, I can guess there's something else?" The king asked, the brown lioness cub nodded. "I believe that Kiara told you about this strange mammal correct?" she asked, the king and queen nodded, "Well, they've encountered a human being and I believe that this person is the one to keep the Circle of Life in balance!" "I-I'm sorry, Rani, we're confused," Nala said to her, "What do you mean that this person will balance the Circle of Life?" "That's something I wanted to show you, come with me." The Night Prider said to her as she went inside. Nala and Kiara went inside, while Simba looked Bunga with a troubled look on his face. "I'm sorry that I couldn't save him in time." He said, looking down. Simba just smiled and said, "You've done what you could, Bunga, but I know you're going to get him back." Simba encouraged, "For now, lets head inside." They went inside, gather around Rani and listen to the tale she has to tell.

Rani begins, "Long ago, there were two brothers, Mwanga and Giza, they were tasked to protect the Circle of Life and to keep it in balance. They were gift with a special power, Mwanga with the Roar of the Mystics and Giza with the Roar of the Elders. One day, there was a strange creature roaming around their lands, the creature claims that he came in piece, looking for help, so the welcome him to their home. The creature and Mwanga as very close bond to each other, but Giza became jealous, so one day, while the creature was asleep, he attempted to kill him, but Mwanga saw what his brother was doing, then a fight broke out between the brothers. The creature saw what was going on, Giza tried to kill him, so he cast a spell on him and banished him into the Darklands. Peace was restored and the creature returned to his home land. In graditude, Mwanga has created a bejeweled lion and named it Hadithi's Lion Jewel, after the creature himself. The was then placed inside of a temple and the only way to find it was to use a map only humans can read, once the jewel was found, they must say this rhyme five times: 'We are united and we are one, our journey's beginning is never done.' Once it's been said, one will be granted a power to create and the other will be granted the Roar of the Mystics."

There was silence for about a couple minutes, then Bunga interrupts the scilence, "OK, so, some human is out there, somewhere, then there's a map that lead to a temple and now we've got to find a jewel in a shape of a lion, well, I don't know about you guys, but think we got ourselves an adventure, but we have to find Kion first." "And you will," Simba said, "I can only hope and pray the great kings that they don't find out about the jewel." "If that's what it takes to save our home," Fuli said, "Then I'm in," "So am I!" Beshte proclaimed. "Count me in!" Ono joined in. "Alright, then," Rani said, "Swala, you and the others will stay here and guard the Tree of Life, I'm counting on you, don't let me down." "Yes ma'am!" The Night Priders sounded off, Rani nodded. "Alright, before we leave," Rani said to the Lion Guard, "We're gonna need some gear."

And the journey to find has begun, but what will become of Kion? What will Janja do to Kion? Can the Lion Guard reach him in time?

All of those questions will be answered in the next chapter: When Worlds Collide.

Until then, see you real soon!
