Chapter One

Edward's P.O.V

"Alice, I am absolutely not in the mood to do this right now." I said to Alice as she danced into my room. After leaving Forks we moved to Vancouver, and a couple of other places across the United States, but currently we were settled into Portland, Oregon attending High School and acting human. As per usual.

Alice smiled, "Nonsense Edward. You have been moody for the last sixty years. The least you can do is get up and help me."

I sighed and walked away from the window I was currently looking out of. "You know why I have been moody."

I know Alice thought, but you made the decision to leave her behind, to protect her after Victoria "and it is too late now anyway. We understand why you did what you did, we all miss her but you can't go back there yet Edward, people will know who we are." I must have made a face because she said, "I have seen you make the decision to go there. Her father has died in the last couple years, so I assume she has moved out of Forks but I can't say for sure."

"You still can't see her?" I asked.

Alice shook her head 'no'. She has been off of the grid for fifty-eight years Edward she could be… I cut her off before she could think or say it.

"Alice, don't. I would have known if she was dead."

Alice gave me a sad smile but picked up her happy bubbly normal mood in a second. "Okay, now come and help me. Forget about Bella for right now. I promise really soon that we will go and check in to see, but for now we have a fundraiser to plan for. Carlisle and Esme are counting on us."

I sighed. "Fine, I will help you."

Alice did a little dance and flew herself at me. "Thank you Edward." She said and she squeezed around my neck.

Alice had finally let go and ran downstairs. I followed slowly, trying to drag out the inevitable. Our Portland home was much like our Forks home, set back into a secluded forest and very open but that is as far as the similarities fall. This house wasn't as big, and the staircase wasn't as grand but we didn't really care much about the size, as long as it fit our 'needs'.

Still in a 'mood' are we Edward? Rosalie thought. Just get over the human already, it has been six decades. Move on.

A deep growl escaped my throat. Emmett looked over at me in shock and laughed. "She getting on your nerves again Ed?" Within the sixty years Emmett had decided to call me 'Ed' when I wasn't in a fitting mood that suited the ever relaxed Emmett. I ignored his comment and followed Alice into the 'dining room'.

"Alright, let's get started." Alice stated as I walked into the room.

I rolled my eyes and looked over Alice's shoulder to see what we were supposed to be doing.

Bella's P.O.V – The Past

I got about two herds of deer into me before I started feeling sluggish and full. I needed to get back to Charlie's before he came home. But I didn't know what I was going to do, if I didn't return he would be looking for me until the day he dies. But if I did return that day may come sooner than either of us suspected. I was afraid of losing control, I was a 'newborn' after all I shouldn't be this tame.

I was wondering around the forest pondering my predicament when I heard a slight chuckle. I snapped my head up looking for danger. I spun in a circle trying to find the noise but even my new eyesight couldn't spot anything out of the ordinary. The forest looked the same as ever, moss stuck to fallen trees, animals ran under bushes, sensing that I was a threat. "She sure did turn into something spectacular." I heard someone say.

"Hello? Who is out there? I can hear you talking. Come out." I yelled into the seemingly empty forest.

I heard another soft chuckle, and saw someone step out from behind a tree. "Long time no see." He said with a smile.

I widened my eyes in shock. "Zachariah? Is that you?"

Zachariah froze with s very wary smile on his face. "Excuse me?" was all he said.

I walked closer to Zachariah who seemed to get over his shock fast. Ah, so she remembers.

I looked into his red eyes suspiciously. "Of course I remember."

Zachariah cocked his head to the side. You understand me? He asked.

"Yes?" I answered him with a question.

"Fascinating."

I stopped walking when I was right in front of him. "What is so fascinating?"

Zachariah smiled. "Look at my lips when I am talking to you Bella."

I obliged and looked at his lips. What do you see? He asked. My eyes nearly popped out of my head. His lips weren't moving but I could hear him.

I took a step back. "Oh my god."

"That is what's so fascinating. You have developed mind reading like our dear friend Edward."

I narrowed my eyes at Zachariah. A low growl escaped through my lips. "Don't talk about him."

"Touchy aren't we?" Zachariah asked.

"What are you doing here anyway? And how am I able to stand here having a civilized conversation with you? Everything the Cullen's told me about newborns is that they are out of control and are not themselves. What is going on?"

"If you have not figured it out by now, I am the one who bit you. You are welcome. And how you are able to stand here having a civilized conversation with me is a new experience for me. But I have concluded that you have some sort of super control and are telepathic, there are two kinds of telepathy, communication and perception. As of right now you are a perception telepath."

"I was never very good at reading people when I was human, so how is it I am telepathic?" I asked.

"I assume it is your minds way of helping you find your dear Edward."

I could feel the venom in my veins starting to boil from anger. "He is no longer my 'dear Edward' and I do not wish to find him. He got you to erase my memories of him. Why would I want him back after he betrayed and left me?"

Zachariah crossed his arms and shrugged. "The heart wants, what the heart wants. You can't stand here and tell me you don't want him or you don't miss him."

"I never said I didn't miss him. It's hard not to, I loved him. Still do. But that doesn't change the fact that he left me here, and took something that wasn't his."

"Oh well, can't change the past two years now can we?"

I sighed in defeat. "No I suppose not. Another thing you mentioned. You changed me," he nodded. "Why?"

A sinister smile spread across Zack's face. "I saw something in you I believe even Edward saw. I knew you would be amazing, and I was correct."

I just rolled my eyes and shook my head, clearly done with the current conversation. "I'm going to go back to my house before Charlie returns. And if I see you within twenty feet of my house or my father, I will kill you."

Zach uncrossed his arms and walked over to me. "I will not harm your father Dear Bella. You have my word. But maybe you should think about returning to your home. You will regret it if you harm him."

My face fell when I realized Zach was saying. If I returned home and Charlie was there and I hurt him, I would never be able to forgive myself. I looked into Zach's eyes again. "I can't just disappear, Charlie is the Chief of Police. He wouldn't rest until he found me, and his heart would break when he doesn't."

Zach shrugged again. "Figure something out and come find me when you do." Before I could answer him he ran away into the forest, leaving nothing behind but his summery sent in my nose.

When I got back to my house I lurked on the edge of the forest listening to see if Charlie had come home from the station. When I was sure it was safe, I climbed the house and entered my bedroom window. When I stepped over the threshold the smell that I never realized was there before hit me. Edward and Alice were right, I did smell good. I cleared the thought from my head before I decided to go search for the small family I smelt earlier, and started rummaging through my desk to find the stationary that Renee bought me when I first moved to Forks.

When I found what I was looking for, I grabbed a pen off of the desk and wrote Charlie a quick note, praying that maybe he would listen.
