Chapter 2: Making an entrance
"BRRRRRRRRRRRRIIINNNNGGGGG." The alarm went off in Jaden's room. Jaden got up slowly and was still groggy when he went to the bathroom to get a shower. He was moving slowly when Yubel appeared next to him.
'You remember what today is, Jaden?'
Jaden just stared blankly, then a smile appeared on his face as his eyes widened.
"Oh yeah! The entrance exams! Today's going to be sweet!"
Jaden rushed through the rest of his morning in excitement over what lied ahead
A few minutes later
"How do I look, Yubel? Don't lie." Jaden was holding back a laugh. He had on black jeans that had slight rips in them, a maroon polo and a black jacket on. His dual-colored brown hair fell naturally in place.
"You look good, Jaden. Bound to impress all the ladies today. And I don't lie" She said as she smiled with her arms crossed. Jaden returned this smile and walked out the door with his duel disk, deck, and backpack.
Later, at the exam entrance
"Hi! What's your name?" A girl at the table asked Jaden
"Jaden. Jaden Yuki, miss. And what is yours?" he asked, grinning.
"Sarah" she replied, smiling and looking up at him. "You're a little early, Jaden. You will be on in about 10 minutes, there's one duel ahead of yours. You'll be last." She said, while handing him his papers.
"Thank you, Sarah. Have a great day!" He said as he walked past her.
He stopped and looked back at her, "You look nice in that green shirt, by the way. Really brings out your eyes" Jaden said as he turned back around and continued walking. He was smiling, knowing he had just made her day a little bit better.
He didn't need to turn around to know that he made her blush. Jaden was quite confident with the ladies, despite having not had his first kiss or his first date yet.
'Flirty today, aren't we?' Yubel teased
'I'm in a good mood, Yubel. And she looked nice, I just figured I'd tell her since I doubt anyone else will. Doesn't take much to make someone else feel good about themselves, just a simple complement'
Jaden walked into the dome, looking around. In the middle was a large battle arena, where one was taking place between an instructor and a boy in a white suit.
He walked into the stands and stood next to a short boy with blue hair that was in a black outfit. "Hi, im Jaden" he said to the short boy. "Oh! Uh... hi, I'm Syrus." The shy boy said. The duel, however, demanded their attention before they could continue.
"Alright new guy! Multiple Choice! You got two monsters staring you down. Do you A) Throw in the towel, B) Beg for mercy, or C) Run home to momma!?" The proctor yelled across to his opponent.
"I'll go with D) none of the above!" The boy revealed a trap card, which was ring of destruction. "Ring of destruction allows me to destroy any monster on the field that's in attack mode, and then we both take damage equal to its attack points! Since you only have 1900 life points left, I choose my Vorse Raider!" the boy retorted. As the trap went off, the rest of the proctor's life points were depleted.
"Clever move, applicant! Welcome to the academy." the proctor said. The boy simply bowed and walked over to the stands to take a seat.
"Wow, not bad. That guy is pretty good!" Jaden said, looking at his new friend Syrus.
"Yeah! That's Bastion Misawa. They say he got the second highest written score out of all the applicants! Though, the one with the highest written score hasn't dueled yet. I'm excited to see that!" Syrus beamed
Meanwhile in another part of the stadium
"He's pretty good, don't you think Chazz?" A boy in a blue blazer said. "Meh, he's a Punk. We went to the duel prep school for the past 3 years. We're ready for the academy. They're going to learn exactly who Chazz Princeton is" Chazz said.
"So, are you in already?" Jaden asked his newly found blue haired friend. "Uh... yeah. But only barely. I barely passed my written exam and then managed to get by my match somehow." The shy boy replied
Jaden could see he had confidence issues, but he wasn't gonna press it since he had just met him.
He looked to his left and saw a girl about his age with long, brown hair. She had bright blue eyes and a dark blue jacket on. She looked excited and happy, waiting patiently for the next duel to start.
"Hey there!" Jaden said, approaching her. He stuck out his hand to shake hers
"Name's Jaden Yuki, and yours?" He said while smiling.
She looked at him and shook his hand "Catherine. Catherine Kaiba. But you can just call me Kat" she replied happily.
Jaden smiled, knowing who this was now. He had never met her, but he had met her father before.
"Wow! Kaiba, huh? So, I guess that makes you Seto Kaiba's daughter. Nice to meet you." Jaden replied excitedly. Jaden wondered if she was as good as her father, and if she used similar cards or not.
Bastion Misawa came up towards them and took a seat in front of them, feeling victorious.
"Hello, I'm Jaden. These are my friends Syrus and Kat" Jaden said, shaking hands with Bastion.
Syrus looked happy that someone had called him his friend already, he didn't think he would make any friends.
"Bastion Misawa. Pleasure to meet you. Did you see my duel?" Bastion asked
"I caught the end of it. Nice job using your trap on your own monster like that. You might just be one of the best freshmen this year!" Jaden replied.
"One of? Who's the best then?" Bastion asked curiously.
"Me!" Kat interjected
"Just wait till it's my turn, I'll show you who's the best!" Jaden was laughing which caused the others to laugh as well
WILL JADEN YUKI PLEASE REPORT TO THE DUEL FIELD came over the intercom
"It's show time. And trust me, I do plan to put on a show" Jaden said happily as he walked down the steps.
His friends all smiled and waved at him, curious to see just what this 'show' was gonna be
"Wish me luck!" he called to his new friends
Unbeknownst to everyone except Jaden, there were several special spectators.
Yugi Muto, Seto Kaiba, Marik Ishtar, and Maximillian Pegasus were sitting in a glassed-in box high up in the stands. They were all looking intently at the field now.
"This is him. The one I told you all about. He knows we're here and I told him not to show off but knowing him…" Yugi trailed off while speaking to his friends.
"Very interesting" Marik said as he leaned forward.
It had been a year since Yugi gave Jaden the God cards and Winged Kuriboh and told him he would be the next king of games.
The whole world knew Yugi had retired and had passed on the God cards to his 'successor,' but this person was not named.
Jaden stepped out onto the field. Across from him was a… human of some form. 'It' had on a blue uniform with golden shoulder tassels, a pink collar, pink handcuffs, yellowish blonde hair and a very large duel disk that originated from his chest and lead into his arms.
Across the stadium from them were two young girls and an older boy. "Why is Crowler dueling? Shouldn't this boy be up against a regular proctor, Alexis?" one of the girls asked. She had flaming red hair that was put up into a pony tail and bright green eyes.
"I don't know, Triss. He must be special or maybe Crowler just doesn't like him. Zane?" Alexis asked. Alexis had long dark-blonde hair and beautiful hazel eyes.
"From what I heard, this kid is the one that got the highest grades on the written test. Crowler probably wants to duel him personally to see if he's worth making one of his star obelisks." Zane said with feigned interest. Zane had very dark blue hair with matching eye color.
All 3 of the students wore the Obelisk Blue uniform. The male uniform was a blue and white blazer with blue pants and blue shoes. The female uniform was a similar blue and white blazer with a blue skirt and blue boots that came with optional fingerless blue gloves, which Alexis and Triss wore but most did not.
Meanwhile in the Arena
Jaden stepped forward and bowed, doing a slight rotation with his hand before extending it. "Hello there, I'm Jaden. What's your name Miss…?"
"Crowler. Dr. Vellian Crowler. I am no miss. I am the head of the Obelisk Blue dorm here and I will be your opponent today." Crowler explained, clearly annoyed over being called 'miss.'
"No offense, Dr. I'm glad to have someone of your uh… stature as my opponent. But why am I singled out to not have a regular proctor?" Jaden couldn't help but be curious
"You scored the highest on the written exams and I wanted to see your potential first hand! If you beat me then you can skip straight to Obelisk Blue."
'Though I don't plan to take it easy on you after that 'miss' comment.' Crowler thought, his anger rising over the situation
"Ah… right. Ok then. I'm ready when you are, Dr." Jaden said politely. He seemed to get the impression that he pissed Crowler off.
'Man, not a big fan of the blue uniform, but I do want to get in. He also seems quite mad, doesn't he Yubel?' Jaden was communicating telepathically with Yubel
'Yes, well you did call him "miss," though I thought the same. He looks ridiculous, does he have a mirror at home?' Yubel teased as Jaden tried to hold in his laugh
"Let's begin then. You may go first, Jaden" Crowler said.
'I want to see if he's as good in practice as he is on paper. Judging from the look of him, I highly doubt it' Crowler thought
"Alrighty then, I Draw!" Jaden looked at his hand and smiled, he got the kind of hand he was hoping for, but he needed a few more things first.
"I'll start by playing the spell card Pot of Greed, allowing me to draw two more cards" Jaden said while smiling. He had gotten what he was looking for while Yubel chimed in.
'Oh? What's Pot of Greed? Please, tell me more. Never heard of this card, its only in every deck ever' Yubel was having her way with Jaden, who was grinning from ear to ear.
"I'll play another spell. Double Summon! This allows me to normal summon two monsters this turn instead of only one"
"For my first summon, I choose Elemental Hero Sparkman in Attack mode!" A blue man in a suite appeared as electricity crackled off of him.
"And next, I'll summon Ra's Disciple in Attack mode!" An Egyptian man with a staff and a headdress that resembled the Winged Dragon of Ra. "This allows me to special summon all Ra's disciples from my deck to the field." Jaden said. Two more Disciples appeared next to the first.
The crowd looked at the duel with intense interest. No one had seen anyone play Ra's Disciple before. Jaden had also managed to summon 4 monsters in one turn, which was very surprising to most.
"I'll also throw down a facedown and end my turn." Jaden said
Sparkman Atk: 1600
Ra's Disciple Atk: 1100
"Four monsters on your first turn, not bad. Though they're all weak, which does make me sad. I thought there would be more to this duel." Crowler picked at Jaden
With Yugi
"What is Ra's Disciple?" Kaiba asked in the glassed-in room. "Even I don't know that one. Marik?"
"It's exactly like he described. Except it can't be sacrificed unless summoning an Egyptian God card to the field. Which means…" Marik trailed off.
Pegasus stood up quickly in excitement. "This is about to get good then!" Pegasus was clapping his hands. "Let's see if Jaden-boy is as good as you say he is, Yugi-boy!"
With Alexis
"Wow! Four monsters on turn 1, I don't recall ever seeing that. This kid seems pretty good, eh Kaiser?" Alexis teased while looking at Zane.
Zane didn't reply. He didn't like that nickname. The students all call Zane 'Kaiser' because he's the best on campus.
With Jaden
"Well now it's my turn! Draw!" Crowler said.
"I play two cards facedown. Now I active the spell card: Heavy storm! This spell card destroys every other spell and trap card that's out on the field!" A wind engulfed the arena and destroyed all facedowns.
"Why would he destroy his own facedowns?" Triss asked.
"Look. Those two facedowns were traps that summon powerful tokens when destroyed." Zane replied as two golden worms appeared on the field.
"What an ass" Alexis said while glaring at Crowler. "He's using his own personal deck against the kid? Just because he got the highest score?"
"If the kid is as good in practice as he was on his test then he'll get in no problem. But first, maybe we will see that legendary rare card that's in Crowlers deck finally." Zane said
Back at the Arena
"I now sacrifice my two wicked tokens to summon… ANCIENT GEAR GOLEM!" Crowler yelled. A giant mechanical soldier rose from the ground.
"Wow!" could be heard from all around the stadium as they stared at Crowler's legendary card.
Ancient Gear Golem Atk: 3000
"Now my golem, attack his sparkman!" Crowler yelled
The golem punched Sparkman as he exploded
Jaden LP: 2600
Jaden looked at Crowler's golem and smiled. "Not bad!" He complemented Crowler
"I will lay two cards facedown and end my turn. But it seems that It's just as I thought. You're not nearly at good as dueling as you were with the exam. Want to forfeit now and we can save everyone some time then?" Crowler sneered. His dislike for the boy had grown every minute since he had been called 'Miss.'
Jaden laughed at Crowler asking for him to forfeit but then frowned.
"I was being polite in this duel, Dr. Crowler. Unfortunately, you couldn't show the same courtesy. I wanted this duel to last longer but if you can't respect me then I suppose I'll just end it this turn" Jaden said to Crowler.
The crowd all gasped and leaned forward. Not only had he called out one of the head teachers, he had also made the bold claim of ending the duel this turn while he was behind.
With Syrus and friends
"He can't really end it this turn, can he? That golem has 3000 attack points! No way he can get through that AND deal 4000 damage to Crowler this turn!" Syrus was almost yelling.
"Yes, I agree with you Syrus. But let's see what he's got up his sleeve, he seems quite confident." Bastion replied.
Kat didn't look away from the Arena but did reply to Syrus. "He still has 3 monsters on the field. Perhaps he could sacrifice them for something bigger to end the duel with? But even then, Crowler has a large monster and all his life points. Let's wait and see."
With Alexis
"If he can end it this turn then I will go get his name personally." Triss was very doubtful that anyone could end this duel this turn, even the Kaiser.
"I will hold you to that, Triss!" Alexis laughed at her friend.
"Quiet, both of you. This is the first thing I've found interesting today other than Kat using those Blue-Eyes" Zane said with a smile on his face.
'I assumed Kat would have a similar blue eyes deck to her father, so its really not that surprising. What is surprising though, is this kid seems confident he can win even though he's got no chance at that Golem as it stands now.' Zane was making mental notes
With Yugi
"Here it comes then. Only one card he can use to end it like this." Marik looked very excited. He, and the others in the box, wanted to see Ra.
With Jaden
"I'm disappointed, Crowler, that you couldn't be polite. I always treat my opponents with respect, even when behind, if they can show common courtesy. Furthermore, I don't wish to be in the Obelisk Blue dorm if you're the head of it."
With Chazz
Chazz looked at Jaden with anger in his eyes at what he said. 'That arrogant prick actually thinks he could end this duel this turn? And he openly bashes the best dorm on campus? Crowler will crush him!'
In the Arena
Jaden looked up to the glass box and could see the 4 duelist legends looking intently at him. Jaden was going to make Yugi proud that he picked him.
Jaden picked his final card and smiled. "Right, queue the music then. It's show time!"
The crowd grew deadly quiet. All were ready to see this.
"I sacrifice all 3 of my Ra's Disciples!" Jaden yelled
Everyone looked at him with anticipation as Jaden began to whisper a chant
"Almighty protector of the sun and sky, I beg of thee, please heed my cry. Transform thyself from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight. I beseech thee, grace our humble game. But first I shall...call out thy name, Winged Dragon of Ra!"
The crowd laughed at Jaden. He looked around and smiled, knowing they were fools for laughing. He noticed a blonde girl staring at down at him with her two friends.
'She's cute' He thought. 'Jaden! Play the damn card!' Yubel yelled
He slammed the card down on the duel disk and the Arena began to tremble. Black clouds formed at the ceiling as everyone heard a screech. Out of the clouds came a massive golden dragon that flew around the arena before landing behind Jaden.
Jaden closed his eyes and smiled while listening to the crowd.
"It's actually a god card!?" it was the same question from almost everyone in the crowd.
"This is very interesting. I didn't expect Yugi's apprentice to be here" Zane said
The two girls next to him gasped as they looked at the divine beast.
"Wow! It's... amazing!" Triss said in awe
Crowler was at a loss for words as he stared at the massive bird.
Jaden looked at the creature he summoned and smiled.
"Hello again, friend. Care to remove that guy from this duel for me? Between the two of us, he's a bit of an asshole." Jaden whispered to Ra while having a shit eating grin. Ra nodded at him and prepared to attack.
With Yugi
"It appears Jaden is… talking to Ra? I never did that, did you Yugi?" Marik asked awkwardly.
"No, can't say I did. But Jaden is very young and from what I understand, has an interesting dynamic with the God cards. He calls them his 'friends' and talks to all of them like that. He swears they talk back occasionally." Yugi told his friends as he smiled and shrugged.
"If that's true, he's got a bond with them that none of us possessed in Battle City." Kaiba said plainly while staring at Ra.
With Jaden
"Since I sacrificed 3 monsters with total attack points of 3300, Winged Dragon of Ra will gain their attack points. I also activate its special ability, which allows me to transfer all but one of my life points to her which will increase her attack points by the same amount!"
Jaden LP: 1
Winged Dragon of Ra Atk: 7299
Everyone looked in shock as the beast screeched, gaining power.
"7300 attack points!? How is this possible!? How do you have that card!?" Crowler's voice was high pitched
"This duel is over! Perhaps next time treat your opponent with respect since you don't know what they're capable of, my good doctor! Now, Destroy him!" The Winged Dragon spat a massive fireball that looked like the sun at Crowler's Ancient Gear Golem.
The Arena trembled as the attack connected and smoke obscured everyone's visions.
Everyone waited for the smoke to clear. Once it was clear, they saw Crowler on his back, unconscious, and a very happy Jaden. "That's game!" Jaden exclaimed
Crowler LP: 0
He walked back to where his friends were in the stadium. Jaden liked to think that he was more mature than most his age, but he was still a teenager and liked to show off, given the right opportunity.
'Don't you think that was a bit much, Jaden?' Yubel asked while smirking.
'Nah, he got what was coming to him. He wasn't nice so neither was I.' He told her mentally and she disappeared.
With Yugi
"You were right yugi-boy. This was worth my time to see, indeed." Pegasus said as he took a seat.
"Yugi, I would like to reach out to this boy and… tutor him. Would you be in support of this?" Marik asked as he looked at Yugi with wide eyes
Yugi pondered for a moment and then nodded. "I think that would be good for him. You have the most knowledge of the Shadow Realm out of anyone. Though, do be careful and don't push him too much. He's still only a boy."
With Alexis
"Alright! Triss! Go talk to him and find out his name, then report back! Quickly! Man, I wish I listened for his name on the announcement when they called him to the field now…" Alexis trailed off, still laughing at her friend
Triss was blushing, not really wanting to follow through with her word, but she did. "Fine… I'll be back."
Triss turned around with an evil grin
"I'll be sure to let him you know asked" she said as she ran off
"Wait! Wait I was kidding!" Alexis gasped
"Zane! Help! Please!?" Alexis looked up at Zane, who was smirking
"Oh no. You did this to yourself. Besides, I'm leaving." Zane turned around and walked away, leaving Alexis to her thoughts
With Jaden
"You didn't say that you had the God Cards, Jaden! That's so cool! Can I see them?" Syrus squealed.
"I think Syrus speaks for Bastion and I as well, Jaden. After all, who wouldn't want to see them?" Kat said with a smile.
Jaden smiled and fetched the 3 god cards from his deck and held them up so his friends could see.
"I need to put them away, but I can show you guys for a minute."
"Wow! They're very impressive." Bastion was inspecting them with determined eyes
The others nodded as they looked at Jaden and his cards with envy
"Jaden, I can't read what Ra says on it. What's it say?" Kat had learned Spanish and Chinese while under her father's tutelage, but not Egyptian.
Jaden turned to her and smiled but nodded his head No
"It's the chant required to summon him. Only 3 people know it, and I don't plan on sharing it. That's why I whispered it on the field" Jaden laughed while his friends pouted
"Hey! Excuse me! Sorry for interrupting…" The girl with flaming red hair blushed as she stopped running. Triss wasn't great with talking to guys, regardless of who they were.
Jaden could see she was a little uncomfortable and was having trouble getting the words out of her mouth, but he guessed what she was looking for and extended his hand to her.
'I'll be kind and start I suppose.' He thought
"Jaden Yuki. And you're not interrupting anything. What's your name?" Jaden asked as his chest fluttered. He was confident but still got nervous from time to time.
Triss blushed a violent shade of red, looking for an out.
"Uh… T-Triss. Anyways I… just came to say hi and say nice duel…" still looking for an out
"Uh... My friend! My friend asked me to come over here and get your name for her" she giggled as she put the embarrassment off on her friend, who wasn't here.
"Oh? Well take me to her then so I can say hi. I take it she's shy, maybe we'll have some fun and embaress her" He had the biggest shit eating grin anyone had seen, and so did Triss.
"You're cruel! I love it. Let's get her!" Triss said as she jumped in place, excitement oozing from her at the thought of getting back at her best friend.
While they walked to where Alexis was, Jaden decided to strike up a short conversation with Triss.
"So, Triss. Is this your first year here?" He said, glancing at her
"Uh, yeah. My friend's too. We're both freshmen, but everyone knows who we are already. They all call her 'the Queen of Obelisk Blue.' I'm in Obelisk as well."
"Oh? Queen of Obelisk Blue huh? Interesting…" A plan was forming in Jaden's head as to how this conversation would go.
'Oh, I can't wait to see this' Yubel was smiling behind Jaden
A moment later
"Hey bestie! I got that guy you were asking about" Triss said with a shit eating grin as they approached her friend
Alexis saw what was happening and buried her face in her hands at the sight of them
"Damn. I knew I was ugly but you gotta bury your face in your hands? That's a new one." Jaden said to her as he walked closer to the girl, and it made everyone laugh
"No No No! I didn't mean that!" Alexis was laughing and blushing, as she held her head up
"Nah its cool, I see how it is!" Jaden teased as she tried to assure him that she didn't mean it that way
"I'm just kidding. You do look nice though." Jaden covered his mouth and laughed, blushing very hard.
Anyways, I'm Jaden and uh… I didn't catch your name."
"Oh. Uh... A-Alexis. Alexis Rhodes", she said, turning a scarlet color while glaring at her friend which meant 'I'm gonna kill you.'
"Well, it's a true honor to meet 'the queen of obelisk'" Jaden smiled trying and failing to keep his laugh in, knowing he was really laying it on thick now
He finally cracked and fell into an all out laugh, as did the the other two. "Damn, that went even better than planned, eh Triss?" He said while looking at Triss, knowing that the girls would argue about this later. He pulled one over on both of the girls and thought it was hilarious.
"Hey! You're gonna get me in trouble with her!" Triss exclaimed as they all kept laughing.
"On a serious note though, I hope I get to duel you both soon. I'm sure you're both great duelists to be in Obelisk. Wish I could stay and talk but I really got ready to leave tomorrow for the Academy." With that, he turned around and started leaving.
As he left, he felt not just their eyes on him, but everyone's in the crowd. He knew he had made the entrance he wanted to, again being a showoff.
End of Chapter 2
Alright guys, this is the first chapter where we meet many of our main characters. As you can see, Jaden has some serious personality changes from the original to this, but I like it better this way. He's goofy and fun but still respectful, which I like. Please review! Look forward to seeing what you guys think
