Chapter 2

Brooke squinted at the spectacular light gate... what ever that was.

"The gates absorb all light so people can't leap directly inside Everglen. It's a safety precaution." Fitz explained. Suddenly, the gates swung open, revealing a lush garden, with a massive crystal house beyond.

"So this is the mysterious girl we've been looking for." A deep, crisp voice said. A man, who looked a ton like Fitz, stood with a disney princess like lady in the gateway.

Brooke felt a impulse to curtsy, like they did in books.

"Dad, Mom, this is Brooke Gates." Fitz said, introducing the small girl. Brooke waved shyly. The woman walked forward, but as she did so, vanished, and reappeared over and over again. Brooke squealed.

"This is Della. She's a Vanisher, so she can turn invisible when light passes through her. She doesn't realize she's doing it." Sophie whispered.

"Hello, Brooke. I just made a batch of pudding puffs! (Yes they're a thing, I saw it in Nightfall) You can go have some if you would like." Della said. Brooke grinned.

She loved free food. Well, not having to steal it. Back at the library, Brooke had had to pillage the librarians snacks for food.

"I'll take her inside." Sophie said, but everyone followed anyway. In the huge pink crystal kitchen, a girl, with all of Fitz's parents best features combined, was blinking in and out of sight.

"Ooooooh! Sophie is this her?" The girl squealed. Sophie nodded.

"Brooke, this is Biana Vacker." Sophie said. Brooke smiled shyly.

"Here's a pudding puff." Della said, handing Brooke a small pastry.

"Thank you Mrs. Vacker." Brooke said, already cramming it into her mouth. It tasted like cinnamon apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream!

"Please call me Della. Everyone else does." Della said.

"And you can call me Alden." The man who looked like Fitz, said. Brooke nodded.

"Do you live here too Sophie?" asked Brooke. Sophie shook her head.

"I live with my adoptive parents at Havenfield." Sophie said.

"Is that where I'll live?" Brooke asked. Sophie nodded. Brooke hugged Sophie, her small arms only reaching Sophie's waist.

"First, we have to take you to Elwin." Alden said.

"Who's-"

"Elwin is a physician. He's just going to give you a check up and make sure you are healthy and ready for the Lost Cities." Sophie said. Alden whispered a few words to Sophie, who nodded, then led Brooke to a glass room with plants around the walls. A tall man with frazzled dark curly hair, and weird glasses with a white lab coat stood there.

"Hello there! I'm Elwin!" The man said, grinning.

"Elwin, this is Brooke Gates." Sophie said, nudging Brooke torwards a crystal chair. Obediently, Brooke sat in it, and swung her legs.

"She's been living with humans for seven years, so I don't know what toll it has taken on her cells." Sophie said. Elwin nodded.

"First, quite a few of my patients have stuffed animals. So, Brooke, I think it's only fitting you should have one too." Elwin said. He held out a sparkly horse with wings and a horn. The tail had sparkles weaved into it. Brooke took it, and looked into it's honey brown eyes. Almost like Sophie's.

"It's an alicorn!" Sophie exclaimed.

"It's beautiful." Brooke murmured. "Are they real?"

"Yep! But we only have two. Well, ones pregnant, so soon three." Sophie said. Brooke's eyes widened.

"Most mythical creatures are actually." Sophie added. Brooke's eyes widened so far, it hurt.

"Before you start that conversation, I'd like to do the check up." Elwin said. He started doing something that created light orbs whenever he snapped his fingers.

Brooke scooted her chair back.

Elwin laughed, then explained he was a Flasher, and could make light do what ever he wanted it to. He was checking her cells with it.

"It's harmless, I promise." Elwin said. Brooke let him look over her, and willingly drunk the mysterious elixirs he handed her.

"Here, Brooke. You should start drinking these twice a day to make up for the lost time. One in the morning, one at night." Elwin said, giving Brooke a bottle labeled: Youth in a Bottle. She downed the whole thing.

"What are you going to name your alicorn?" asked Sophie. Brooke thought for a moment.

"Ally the Alicorn." Brooke decided. Sophie laughed. She and Brooke thanked Elwin, then headed back to the kitchen. Quite a few people had joined the party. Two twins with matching black hair and silver tips, A boy with blonde hair, a boy with reddish hair, two adults, and another wrinkly person who smelled like feet.

"Umm, who are they?" Brooke whispered.

"More friends." Sophie whispered back.

"Hello Brooke." A auburn haired adult said. Her turquoise eyes shone, so Brooke smiled at her.

"Brooke this is my mom, Edaline, and my Dad, Grady." Sophie said. Brooke waved.

"We're so excited you are going to live with us!" Grady said. Brooke fidgeted with her shirt. It was then she noticed her clothes were faded, and torn, while the other Elves looked runway worthy. Biana must have noticed her tatters.

"Why don't we take her shopping first?" asked Biana. Sophie sighed.

"But there are so many cute outfits for girls her age! And I probably have an old dress somewhere she can wear out." Biana said. One of the boys rolled his eyes. Brooke gazed at Sophie, eyes pleading. She needed new clothes badly.

"Fiiiiiiiiiiiiine." Sophie relented. Biana squealed, and ran down the hall, blinking again. When she returned, a purple dress was layed across her arm, with shoes and a brush. The dress was a bit long, but it sure was soft. And fancy. The purple fabric was sequined along the edges and had sparkly sleeves. As for the shoes, they were bejeweled with pink and silver studs.

"How's this?" Biana asked. Brooke grinned.

"I get to wear this?" She asked excitedly.

"Unless you want something plainer." Sophie said. Brooke shook her head, and disappeared into the bathroom, as Biana handed Sophie a red dress and black boots.

When Brooke started opening the door to come out of the bathroom, Biana shooed her back in, and came with her.

"What?" Brooke asked, crossing her arms. "Does it really look bad?"

"No! It's just, well, your hair needs some work." Biana said, pointing to her blonde waves. And she was right. Brooke's hair was jagged, and limp from no shampoo. She'd taken baths in the near by river, but with no soap. So her hair was lifeless and loose.

"Umm." Brooke stuttered.

"It's okay, I'll fix it up." Biana said. First, she washed it and combed out the tangles. Then, Biana braided it, and dried it with a special spray. When her hair was taken out of the braids, Brooke's hair fell in light, healthy waves. It looked so much better. And her head felt relieved.

"Wow." Everyone breathed when Brooke stepped out into the kitchen. She blushed, attention was new to her.

"Brooke, are you ready?" asked Biana. Brooke nodded, took Sophie's hand, and followed her to a room, with a huge crystal set into the center.

"The Leapmaster 500!" Biana exclaimed. "It takes you to 500 different places in the Elvin world."

Brooke clasped Biana's hand, as Sophie stepped into a light beam, and pulled them away.

When the group arrived at a cold, stormy island, Brooke almost slipped on the sleek rocks. She would've fallen if it weren't for Biana. Sophie reached into a chest that was randomly placed on the rocky island.

"What's that? Why are we here? I thought we were going shopping." Brooke said.

"This is a whirlpool. It's the only way to get to Atlantis. We are going shopping still." Biana replied. Brooke's eyes widened.

"A whirlpool?!"

Biana nodded, as Sophie broke the small vile she was holding. Instantly, an even greater wind swatted at Brooke's hair, and a huge whirlpool formed. Biana jumped straight into it, startling Brooke.

"What..." Brooke said, then Sophie nudged her. Brooke fell into the opening of the funnel, and screamed. She closed her eyes, but reopened them. Realizing she was completely fine, Brooke began to enjoy the ride. All too soon, it was over, and Brooke landed on a sponge, completely dry. Suddenly, Brooke's jaw dropped. Paved crystal streets were lined with huge glittering buildings looming above her. The entire city was surrounded by a giant bubble, and hundreds of Elves bustled through the crowded streets.

"Whoa." Brooke breathed. "So this is Atlantis."

"Yep it sure is! And you might want to step out of the way, Sophie's coming." Biana said, pulling Brooke off the sponge, just as Sophie landed.

"I can't believe Atlantis is real." Brooke sighed.

"It's the only Lost City that is still called by it's real name. Like Eternalia was once Shangri-La. Humans used to walk these streets, it was built for them." Sophie said.

"Why are Elves living in secret?" Brooke asked.

"To put it plainly, Humans violated the treaty we signed." Sophie said. Before Brooke could ask another question, Biana exclaimed:

"Enough history, we have shopping to do!"
