When Gwaine became anxious, he ate. It wasn't something he had to deal with before. But there was something about riding around after Arthur and, as a result, Merlin, that made Gwaine worry. And when he worried, he ate.
So, yes, maybe that village hadn't been the most appropriate place to eat an apple. But he was scared, alright?
And the honey? Merlin could have been all but dead the last Gwaine had seen him.
Actually, at the rate things were going, Gwaine would be a nervous wreck of a fat man in a very, very short amount of time.
