"PALLET TOWN!" Kagome yelled out as she arrived before the town.
"Yes...yes it is. Not a good enough reason to yell though."
Kagome turned to see someone sitting outside staring at her curiously. "Ah, s-sorry. Um, do you know someone named Professor Oak?"
The boy leaned against the door and smirked, "He's my grandfather, why do you need him?"
Kagome blushed, "my mother, or...um, well, anyways I was asked to deliver a letter."
"Oh? A delivery? Today?" He pushed himself off the wall and leaned forward, "you sure you aren't here to-"
"Kagome!"
The two turned to see an older gentleman walking up to them. Kagome tilted her head curiously. "Professor Oak?"
"Yes, and you are Kagome. Officer Jenny has told me so much about you! I wanted to meet the mysterious girl who appeared out of thin air in front of her. She was so certain that I wouldn't believe her when she told me, but you see, I do believe her. And do you know why!?"
Kagome shook her head rapidly, her hair flaring around her shoulders as she stepped back a bit, "No?"
"Because, I have seen it happen before. They were children I know now, and I met them when I was a child myself. So this came to no surprise to me...though, what I saw happen hasn't yet to happen...but it will, just as it did."
'This man talks in tongues!' She shook her head, "sir, the letter."
"Oh, the letter was an excuse to have you come here."
'An...excuse…?!' Kagome snapped, "what the hell! Sir, I traveled for nothing?!"
"Not nothing, and please, consider your tone. You are only a child."
"I'M FIFTEEN!"
"...oh?"
The two both stared in surprise at her, "I...I was...fifteen...circumstances have regressed my body to my former and much younger self."
"I see, well, that is interesting. Please, come in, both of you! Oh! Kagome, I'm not sure if you have met, but this is my grandson, Gary Oak."
"Kagome Higurashi, a pleasure to meet you both...I think." She muttered the last part to herself as they walked ahead of her.
"The reason you came here is to accompany my grandson on his quest to discover all of the Pokemon in the world, well, more specifically, his goal to become a top Pokemon scientist."
Gary scoffed, "my goal is to become the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world, and in the process, I will become the greatest Pokemon scientist in the world."
"Why do I need to accompany him?"
"Jenny, the one that is raising you, or, caring for you...I should say. She is from a different region, and had come quite the distance from what she told me, bringing with her Pokemon that we've never seen before. There are a great many out there, and-"
"No, why am I accompanying him."
Professor Oak stopped talking, and looked at Kagome before smiling sadly. "Go ahead and read the letter,"
Kagome raised a brow but did as told, opening the envelope and pulling from it a folded piece of paper. She unfolded it and read the neatly written letter.
Kagome,
I want to first apologize for lying to you about the delivery of this letter. I knew it would be easier this way. You are an amazing girl, and you have such an open and beautiful heart, but I am no more a fool than you are my daughter. You can't spend your life pretending to be someone...and my keeping you here wasn't helping. I want you to go out and experience the world you've fallen into. It's not yours, but it can be...if you only give it the opportunity, it can be. Be true to yourself, and you will find your place here. I have a bag of your clothes, poke-balls and snacks already there waiting at Professor Oaks lab, I'll see you when you come through Pewter City again, till then...take care of Flaaffy and have fun!
With love,
Jenny
Kagome pushed the ache in her heart away, and sighed. 'She is right, though.' Kagome smiled, "very well, I'll babysit your grandson."
"Tch! Whose babysitting who!?
Kagome gave him a look that told him exactly who was being babysat. "When do we leave?"
"Ah, after Gary picks his starter Pokemon. We usually let our trainers leave when they are ten, but we chose to hold off till they were twelve this time around. Discussing it with the kids, they were okay with it, though not the most enthusiastic about it, they weren't horribly broken up about it. Oh, and remind me to grab your bag for you."
Kagome nodded, it was all spinning. The world around her just started moving at full speed suddenly. 'This will be good for me though,' She watched as Gary walked forward and was shown the three choice Pokemon. They were cute by their pictures alone, she wanted to see the actual Pokemon though.
"I'll choose the water type, Squirtle, as my starter Pokemon."
Professor Oak took the poke-ball from the podium and held it out to his grandson. A moment later, another kid came running in and slid to a stop in front of them.
"Ah, hello, I am here for a Pokemon."
"Yes, yes..."
Kagome watched as this one picked a Charmander, and then a third arrived picking a Bulbasaur. Both left before Kagome could hear their names, but she'd guessed it wasn't important. She followed Gary outside after getting her bag and frowned at the large group of individuals out front cheering him on.
The rather annoying, and repetitive...albeit...somewhat catchy cheer, of a group of cheerleaders, could be heard from where they were walking from the lab.
As we made it down the dirt path to the main road-walk, a boy stumbled out of the large group, yelling out apologies as he pushed his way through and slammed into Gary, falling backwards as he did.
"Hey! Watch where you're going! Ash?! Aren't you being a bit too cocky, showing up this late?"
Kagome glanced to the boy on the ground and decided to help him up as she held her hand out to him. He thanked her and took her hand as she pulled him up.
"I accidentally slept in, when I woke up and saw the clock...well...anyways, did you already choose your Pokemon?"
"Tch, Ashy-boy, who do you think I am? I got mine first, since some of us no how to arrive on time. Not only that, but I saw the other two trainers show up before you and get theirs too. The old saying, "you snooze you loose" comes to mind." He spun his Pokemon's poke-ball atop his finger, balancing it without any effort.
"Let's go Gary, Let's go! Yeah, Yeah!
"Let's go Gary, Let's go! Yeah, Yeah!"
"That's going to get real old, real fast."
"Gary, I failed to mention this to you before, but those cheerleader friends of yours will not be going with you on your journey."
'Oh...gee...that's too bad...' Kagome thought sarcastically, but kept her opinion to herself.
"No convertible either," Gary's eyes were wide at the last confiscation his grandfather made.
Kagome watched as grandson argued with grandfather over what was considered fair and how clearly that wasn't. Kagome followed Gary who stormed off, stopping only when Professor Oak called out to her.
"Kagome, I hope you and Gary stay safe on your trip, your things are all in the bag, including your own pokedex, good luck to the both of you!"
Kagome bowed and thanked him before continuing on her way with Gary. 'I wonder how things will turn out, he's clearly annoyed, so I guess for now...I'll let let him be.'
