Dave sighed as he knocked on his sister's door. Wow, he was an idiot. Did he really tell John to leave their apartment? Like, what? That was his best friend, and he just kicked him out because of something so petty. If Karkat were to call him and yell at him for it right now, he wouldn't even care. He'd take it, because he deserved it. Karkat was just another friend of John's, and damn the fact that he wasn't able to handle that. That was so bad of him. It wasn't right.
The blond slowly began to rub one of his temples, trying to calm himself down. This little thinking would have to wait for when Rose finally opened the door. Speaking of her opening the door, why hadn't she opened the door yet? He didn't think it was that difficult to walk over to a door and just open it. Wait, he heard footsteps. Finally.
The white door opened and revealed a young woman with a short blonde bob and an ever present black headband over it. Her purple eyes looked Dave up and down while she had quite the judgemental look on her face. The male could tell she was not happy about his actions. He prepared for the scold.
"Come right in, Dave," she said, stepping out of the way and motioning for him to walk in, which he did. He knew this house very well, since he goes here often. Without Rose saying anything, he walked over to the couch and plopped himself down. His sister sighed, going to the couch and seating herself. She turned to him, raising a brow with a tiny frown on her face.
The silence between them was tense. She had yet to say something, and he didn't exactly want to talk without her talking. The female eventually sighed quietly and gave her brother a look of pity.
"Why did you do it, Dave?"
And there it was. There was the big question that was driving him crazy. Of course he knew why he did it, but it was stupid. He was actually slightly afraid that if he were to say why that would just make Rose more disappointed in him than she already was. How did he even go about saying it? Hell like he knew. So, he decided to just blurt it all out.
"All he does it spend time with Karkat. Lately, of course. It's like Karkat is his new best friend. I became old news, and I was pissed. I wanted to hang out with my best friend. And you saw him that one day!" Dave stood up as he said this. That one day when he blew us off to hang out with Vantas! You saw that! How could he do that to us? How could he do that to me?" He slowly sat back down, sighing. "I just, I acted t
"Obviously," Rose cut in. Dave gave her a look.
"I really just wanted to spend some days with him, but him not hanging with me, or us, even, was getting annoying and him spending all that time with Karkat was just, so frustrating. How could he spend weeks with that kid and not even spend a day with us? We were supposed to be best friends, Rose. Best fuckin' friends. And we weren't."
Rose shook her head. "We still are best friends, Dave. We always will be. And I know this is hard to admit, since you want to believe you are right in your little rage, but he has other friends. And he's been hanging with us for years. And I mean that literally." She leaned in closer and put both her hands on her lap. "While he didn't hang out with us, he would still talk to us. We still mean something to him. Especially you. He cares about you greatly, Dave. There were times where he didn't want to ask you personally about how you were doing on your moody days out of a tiny fear of being teased. Which, I could understand, and so those times I may or may not have told him things that were bothering you," she quietly said as she glanced away and pursed her lips.
Dave raised both of his eyebrows. "Excuse me? Wait, so then he knew I was ticked off about him hanging out with Vantas all the time?" Rose nodded to this. Dave had a smile of disbelief and shook his head. "You're kidding me, right? John actually had some idea that I wasn't too happy about us hanging out and he continued to do what pissed me off? No, no way. That is just a new low for him. What the actual fuck? That's not cool. I can't fucking believe this."
Rose put a hand on his shoulder. "Please understand that while he wanted to hang out with you, Karkat was still someone important. He couldn't just drop him to spend time with you."
"But it's not like he made plans with me! What, did he have his whole YEAR booked for just him and Karkat?!" The blonde shook her head.
"No, Dave. He didn't. But I supposed it slipped his mind, because it wasn't just when your anger started, nor was it near when you were going to kick him out. It was right in the middle. Many things happened then, and by the time you kicked him out, there was nothing he could do."
"Of course there was nothing he could do! Hah, and there's probably nothing I could do to get him to move back, either," he said, casting his head down."
Rose grinned a bit. "I wouldn't be so sure about that, Dave. He does still keep in contact with me, you know. So much so that he has been asking me how youve been the past week he hasn't been there.
Dave looked up at her. "For real?"
"For real."
The blond smiled just a little bit. "Do you think if I ask for him to come back he would?"
"Well," Rose began, "John would accept it immediately. However, Karkat would need some convincing."
Dave groaned as soon as that sentence came out, his head going back down. Well, shit. There goes his chance. Karkat would never allow John back after how much of a prick he was. Knowing John, he probably babbled off to him about how Dave was jealous of those two spending so much time together. Wow, great. just fucking great.
As if reading his mind, Rose said, "Do not fret. There is hope for you two being in the same apartment again. Like I said, Karkat would just require a little nudge and some proof that you aren't as much of a prick as he thinks you are. Are you ready to prove that?"
He shook his head.
"I figured. We'll just have to make you ready for it then."
