Second chapter
The promise they made this day was the only thing, that kept them alive for the next years. In the beginning, it was hard. It felt terrible being two souls in one body. It was like wearing a far to small tux and not being able to change it. They both had minds of their own and it was hard to deal with differences in opinions. But they had to. There was no other way.
After a while they got a routine. There where times when Melinda was the one who ruled the body and there were times when it was Chris. While they were at their grandpa's house it would always be Melinda who talked to Victor. Chris on the other side was the founder of the resistance against Wyatt. He made plans and rescued witches. At those times Melinda would just watch within their mind.
It was not really comfortable but it was the only way they both were able to live on. They lived from day to day, rescuing witches, working against Wyatt and playing family with Victor. Victor was trying to be Chris' father and mother, not knowing that he interacted in fact with the dead Melinda whose body was buried next to her mother's.
Victor was there when Chris and Melinda would wake up screaming, dreaming of their deaths and the deaths of their loved ones. Still, Victor was not allowed to know anything about this day nor the pact that Chris and Melinda bound to their life.
No-one was allowed to know. This was the deal between the pair of siblings. They were Chris and they would stay Chris 'till the day they would finally die.
And this day was coming closer and closer. They both stopped using the most of their powers because using their powers would be equal to them to lose another minute of their rest of life.
They could not die before finding a way to rescue Wyatt…
"You know, Chris, that this will be our last chance?" Melinda asked while starring through her brother's eyes onto a paper in front of him. "When we don't do it right, we will fade without changing the world."
"I know."
Neither of them mentioned that it wouldn't matter for them if the world would change or not. Neither of them would be able to see the changes after all. It was a fact, that they both would not be able to climb to heaven after they died. They would have no souls to do that.
"So which time…?"
"I have thought a lot about that." Chris interjected his little sister. "I'm sure there is just one point in time when someone was able to change Wyatt."
"The time, when he was a toddler."
"Yeah."
"So much I know. But our brother was not just one year a toddler."
"No."
"So when?"
"It has to be before I was born. Before Dad became an Elder."
"So you want…"
"Yes. Remember the promise we made? We will rescue Wyatt – even if it will erase our own existence."
"I know the promise!" Melinda interjected. "But it was mend for me. Even if my…"
"You're my baby sister. You have to exist." Chris said coolly. "I'm the one that doesn't matter."
"But…"
"It was your plan, going to the past." Chris told Melinda. "And we have to interfere in a point of history when the aunts and Mom will belief us that there was something threatening to their lives."
"Why don't tell them that Wyatt…"
"Do you think they'll belief us? We have no prove for them…"
"And what should we tell them when they ask…"
"Let's tell them… 'future consequences'. They mustn't know anything of what we want to change. When they would learn there might be the chance, that they will change to much. I don't want to be the cause of erased cousins or an erased sister."
Melinda could not argue with that. She also didn't want to loose her cousins by accidentally erasing them from time. Her own life instead, that was a different thing. When erasing her own existence would mean to stop Chris from being erased, she would gladly accept her fade…
"I understand." She said, keeping her thoughts for herself. "So which time do we choose to go back to?"
"There is just one time we can." Chris said. "The only time in this time period when one of the aunts was close to dying was the Titan episode."
"The Titans? Do we really have to interfere there?" Melinda asked frowning. She remembered the stuff her mother had told her of the Titans. Melinda had hated these stories the most because of the thousands of innocents that died 'till the Elders were okay with lending the power of the ancient gods to the Charmed Ones.
"We have to. It will be the best time to interfere."
"And when…"
"At the beginning. We will be the one who will rescue Aunt Paige before she will be kidnapped."
"But…"
"And we will talk Dad into using the powers of the ancient god on the Charmed Ones."
Melinda could not argue with that plan. It would safe thousands of innocent people and maybe it would be a good start in touring Wyatt.
"There is just one problem: Dad will become an Elder before his time."
"Yes, he will."
"And you…"
"I might be erased." Chris answered. "But maybe there is a different way to exist for me…"
Melinda knew that Chris would not search for that way but she had no point that would convince Chris that erasing himself would do no good.
"We have to find the threat before you will be convinced." She finally said. "You will fade out of existence when you won't be convinced and…"
"I know, Mel. When we don't find the threat before that we will be unable to do it after that day."
"Yes." Melinda answered but couldn't resist to add something else. "But, please Chris…"
She stopped, considered and went on.
"Please try to exist! Do it for me, when you don't want to do it for yourself…"
Chris sighted after hearing these words, but finally agreed.
"Thanks."
"You're my baby sister. I would do everything for you." Chris answered. "And I have to get mom and dad back together for you, so maybe there is a chance for me also…"
There was nothing Melinda was able to add. She was okay with stopping to exist but she also knew that her brother would never erase her.
"As long as you try." She finally said, promising herself to rescue Chris even if she would have to hex her parents. "As long as you try."
Three days later they had their final plan and Chris, Melinda and Bianca entered the home of Chris' and Melinda's childhood.
Wyatt had made it a museum and the demons were guarding it. But that was nothing. They had no problem to enter the attic and also no problem to sum the Book of Shadows. Just a moment later Chris and Melinda entered the attic of the past for the first time.
"Let the show begin."
Chris whispered and orbed out to wait for their great entrance in the lives of their aunts.
"Wish us luck. We definitely will need it..."
