One day, you wake up and there are people in your life that you never would have anticipated being there. You friends, enemies, and yes, even that boy who had a crush on you in pre-school. They're just there, no matter how miserable you are, trying their hardest to make you more miserable.

"This is a nightmare."

"No," Cristina said, crossing her arms and shooting daggers towards George, "This is reality."

Meredith squeezed her eyes shut, tugging the blanket up over her face as George, Izzie, and Cristina continued to yammer loudly. After a minute, she groaned and kicked back the sheets.

"You're still here!"

"Yeah. That's how reality works," Cristina whispered, flicking Meredith's nose and catching her hands easily as she struck out to hit her. "Don't hurt yourself, Sweet Pea."

"I hate you all. Go away." Izzie snorted, grinning as Meredith struggled to free herself from Cristina's grasp.

"Stop. Stop. Meredith…" Cristina started, before releasing her hands and smacking back violently as their hands flailed a foot away from each other's face.

"You're childish," Izzie sing-songed as she rolled off the bed and followed George into the hallway.

"You're wearing Hello! Kitty underpants!" Cristina and Meredith called after her in unison.

"So?"

They don't know why they're there, but it's not really important. The only thing that matters to them is that they're happy, even if that means making you miserable. And dark. And twisty.

But mostly they're just there.
