A/N Ok so this chapter really at the moment I have no idea where I am going with my life. That sentence really did not turn out how I started. Ok lets try that again. I have no idea where I am going in this story, this chapter could really suck because I didn't know what I was doing on it, and my life was randomly chucked in for I dunno really. Ok onto the story. Also thanks for reviewing.
The next day Harry and the Dursley's were talking about exactly what happened during Harry's school year. Aunt Petunia remembered Professor Snape, because he used to hang out with her and Lilly. "That's odd, he was a really nice kid, a bit strange, but a good friend. We fell out of touch once Lily and he graduated and she married your father, I wonder why he was nasty to you? Maybe I should invite him over to catch up so we can find out why?"
"That sounds like a great idea Pet, we aren't doing anything next Thursday, why not dinner?" Uncle Vernon suggested.
"I suppose I don't get a say then?" Harry asked.
"No, it's decided. Severus is coming for dinner," Aunt Petunia announced with finality.
Thursday:
'Why am I going to Potter's house of all people, his precious relatives probably want to complain about his appalling marks, the dunderhead. Why did I agree to this?" Professor Snape sneered to himself as he showed up to the Dursley's for dinner. Harry answered the door when he knocked, "Professor," he greeted.
"Potter," Snape sneered, waling into the house…straight into Petunia.
"Hello Severus, I haven't seen you in such a long time," she said helping him off her.
"Petunia, I didn't realise Potter was staying with you, I thought he'd be staying with other Potter spawn," Snape admitted.
"No no, he's living with us. Lily thought that we'd be more reliable than James' relatives," she laughed.
"Yes, that would make sense, I suppose."
"Harry, Dud, can you boys set the table for dinner and put the rolls in the oven, 180 degrees, middle shelf," Petunia directed the boys.
"So Sev, I hear you're teaching potions now," Petunia took direction of the conversation as soon as Harry and Dudley went to go set the table and heat the rolls in the oven.
"Yes," Snape agreed 'Here it goes.'
"How is that?"
"Well, it is favourable to having no job, I suppose." He sneered
"So you don't enjoy teaching," Vernon decided to have his say.
"Children and Potion are a… dangerous combination. I prefer living, but I do want to work with potions, so teaching it is."
"Isn't there other jobs that work with potions?" Vernon inquired
"Yes there is, that's what I wanted to do. Be a experimental potion maker. But then the war and Dumbledore happened." He reminisced.
"What happened in the war that-," she was cut off
"It does not matter. This is my life now, no use wasting it wishing," Snape ended the conversation.
Harry and Dudley came back into the room with a electronic timer that was going off.
"That will be the meat," Petunia said taking the timer and leaving the room. After five or so minutes of awkward conversation and silences Petunia called them into the dining room.
"Severus, we would like your opinion of Harry's last school year. We've heard some disturbing things from him." Petunia broached the topic.
'And there it is, they want to know how to better his potion's marks. Ha idiots.'
"Well, Pot- Harry isn't remarkably talented at any subject thus far-," Petunia cut him off.
"Not his marks, the strange stuff, like his Defence teacher Squirrel."
"Quirrel, you mean? That is all fallacy. Obviously Potter went into the forbidden corridor, destroyed the stone and when trying to save him, Quirrel was killed. Then he made up some cock-and-bull story about getting attacked by a possessed teacher to get out of being punished. He did that all year." Snape said, thinking that Petunia would believe him.
"I did not. Quirrell attacked me. You weren't there. You were always getting up me for being inside, for breathing. I mean you are ridiculous, what did I do to you? You gave me detention in my first class for taking notes! Then you yelled at the class for not taking notes. Arggh!" Harry ranted. Vernon and Petunia raised an eyebrow each.
"Taking notes? You gave him a detention for that? You should not be a teacher if you punish students for that." Vernon stated, going slightly pink in the face.
'He was taking notes? I thought he was drawing pictures like his father always did during class. I put a child in detention for something I except?'
"I would like to apologise to you then Po-Harry. I did not realise that you were taking notes, I thought, like your father before you, that you were scribbling." Snape apologised. Harry was taken aback, he didn't that his teacher would do something like apologise to a student.
"It's er ok Professor," Harry said going red, "I shouldn't have lost my temper just now either."
"Severus, what do you have against Harry, may I ask?" Vernon ventured.
"No, you may not ask, that is my business, not Potter's." Snape snapped.
"Really, Sev, not his business," Petunia scoffed, "You're making him miserable and we would like to help him fix his behaviour so this doesn't continue."
'I'm done for now. How am I going to be able to explain the charm. I can't speak about it until it wears off. What am I going to do? I'll give it a go, if I'm lucky it's worn off.'
"Albus, used my dislike for Harry's father and placed a charm I couldn't remove or speak of until it wore off. By the looks of it, it has worn off while I've been here. That sounds really convenient doesn't it?" Snape grimaced.
"Yes it really does," Dudley broke in.
"Well it's the truth. I understand if you don't."
"I believe you," Petunia said.
"Really?" Snape glanced at her.
"Well it's like when we were kids. You and Lily both didn't like Harry's father. I met him and didn't like him. Don't know what she saw in him, when they got married."
"I have always wondered that." Snape admitted.
The night continued along the same line, and it was late when they finally said their goodbyes, Snape agreeing to visit Petunia again as she had privately told him some of her suspicions about Dumbledore.
A/N: sorry for the wait. I was going to have this posted before Christams last year but life caught up and I got writers block. I'm not really happy with the first bit but the rest is ok. Out of curiosity, should Dobby visit except when Petunia and Vernon know? I have plans for where the story should go but I'm not sure if Dobby should be the turning point. Also I forgot to say about the troll, so if you're wondering about that the whole of first year is cannon. Harry just hasn't mentioned that. Well the whole of first year is cannon except for the fact Ron and Hermione pester Harry about the Dursleys all the time and stuff. Ok I'll try to be better on the next chapter. Sorry again. I really loved the reviews I got. Thanks, ok, Bye. By the way this chapter is 1012 words long, the last one was 771 words long. I'm really actually quite proud of that. So yea… sorry… (that was not including the A/Ns)
