A/N: Sorry I know that it's been forever since I started this story, but things with work and holidays coming up has just caused some craziness to go on. Not to mention my Muse once again took an unscheduled vacation, bitch :/. Welp, I hope this chapter makes up for it. I'm going to be working on this story for most of today so there may be some more chapters for y'all to come. Also, this story will eventually be put with "Someone Like You". For any updates please find me on Twitter. It's the same name as on here. Also, please read and review.
"Why am I responsible for the little chit?" Severus was over having to take care of Hermione. She seemed to only get worse with every passing day. He was tired of finding her passed out on his couch, bottle of Jack Daniels hanging from her hand. Tired of waking in the middle of the night to hear her sobbing between the sounds of her retching. Tired of holding back her hair and promising her it would get better. Especially when he had no idea if it would ever get better for her.
"You know what she's going through. Who better to help her with this heart break than someone who's felt this kind of pain first hand," Minerva felt horrible for the two of them. She knew Severus didn't have the kind of heart crushing end with Lily, as they had never actually dated, but out of everyone in the young womans life Severus was better suited. "Besides, Harry has his hands full as it is keeping the youngest Weasley from tearing Ronald limb from limb. Not to mention Molly being the only one to defend the stupid boy,"
"It's been three bloody months! You'd think by now she'd have reached the 'pissed off, I'll show him' phase of the grieving process. Lord knows she could do better than that dunderhead," Severus couldn't understand why someone who had brains like her and looks like her, would fall to pieces over a child that couldn't even begin to fathom the depth of her intelligence or her need to learn. "I mean honestly, a woman as intelligent as her would have figured out by know that she could and can do better. Well if she ever puts the whiskey down, bathes, and sobers the fuck up!"
"Obviously I'm not that intelligent, am I? After all, I'm only good for spouting word for word what my books have written in them, right? I'm just a know it all twit of a girl, right?" Hermione had finally left her shared chambers with Severus; she couldn't take seeing the same four cold stonewalls anymore. She couldn't take looking at the same artwork and floor to ceiling bookcases. She'd come looking for Minerva so she'd have someone worth talking to. Lord knows Severus wasn't much of a comfort. "Did it ever cross your mind that it might go beyond Ronald? Did you ever think to ask me what might be causing this?"
"Hermione, you don't have to tel-"
"No, apparently I do, Minnie," Hermione glanced at Minerva as she cut her off and then rounded on Severus. "My father cheated on my mother repeatedly. They were friends in college. They did just about everything together. She only ever saw him as a friend but when he fell in love with her, he did everything he could to get her to love him. Begged for at least one date. Than another and another. Until finally my mom opened up her heart to him, " Hermione walked closer to Severus with each word until she was practically in his face poking her finger into his chest. "They got married and were in love. They loved each other so much that they decided to have children. But there were complications when my mom gave birth to me. Because of those complications she can't have any more children." Hermione was so upset with having to tell this uncaring man about this that she didn't even realize she was crying, she honestly thought she'd run out of tears the night before when she started throwing every bottle she could get her hands on at the wall of her bedroom. "Before I even turned one he was fucking his secretary. By the time I was 4 he'd had 5 different lovers, would never touch my mother. Not even a fucking kiss on the cheek! By the time I got my Hogwarts letter my parents slept in separate rooms and my father's current whore was pregnant. Guess who that was, Severus."
"I… I don't know," Severus felt like one of Neville's slimy, horribly made potions.
"My loving and doting Aunt. My mother's piece of shit sister. The one that had been telling her to hold on, that John would come around. That everything would work out. Than one day my mother and I went out for an early dinner because my father had to 'work late', ha." Hermione turned from Severus and looked for something to smash; she wanted to punch her father, she wanted to punch Ron. She wanted to scream until she made everyone around her feel a quarter of the pain she felt. "And who do we see in a back corner table? None other than my father and Aunt Bri holding hands while they shared desert and longing looks. At the age of eleven I witnessed what lust looked like on a man's face. My mother tried to act like it wasn't happening, but than we saw my Aunt pull my fathers hand to her stomach and heard him loudly exclaim how he was so happy she was pregnant." Hermione turned around and faced her professors; she spotted the understanding in Minerva's eyes. "Sorry, Minnie, I would have told you but you would have tried to talk me out of it. Now it's too late."
"Oh child, why? I could have helped you, Harry and Ginny could have helped." Minerva was heart broken for this broken woman in front of her. More than she had been since that night. She wanted to hex Ron with in an inch of his life even more for this than she had for him cheating on her.
"What? What the hell am I missing?" Severus stood there looking between the two women, hoping that someone would bother to fill him in.
"I terminated my pregnancy, Snape." With that Hermione turned and left the room. She needed a drink.
