Prologue
"Aw! Sparrowflight, your kits look beautiful!" Exclaimed Dewleaf, the Clan's Medicine Cat. Sparrowflight softly purred and tiredly looked down at her three newborn kits. Cloudpelt, her mate and Thunderclan's Deputy, looked in awe at the three bundles of joy. The oldest was a tom with a light brown pelt covered with dark stripes. The second born was a she-cat with a light grey pelt and a white underbelly, chest, and paws. The third born kit was a she-cat with a pale golden pelt and a white chest.
They were all nuzzling into their mother's stomach. "Okay, everyone out! I think it is time to let Sparrowflight and her kits rest. Come on Cloudpelt, you too. You can visit them later. Come on, you need to rest too." Announced Dewleaf, gently nudging him away from his mate and newborn kits. Cloudpelt gave Sparrowflight a quick lick on the top of the head and hurried out, away from Dewleaf's icy stare.
Everyone filed out except Redwhisker, Dewleaf's apprentice who stared a little while longer at the youngest kit who was nuzzling her mother. "Redwhisker, come on!" As if in a trance, he snapped out of it and asked a question under his breath, "Why is Starclan so interested in you?" And rushed out of the den, to his mentor.
Later on that evening, when the two medicine cats were sorting through the herbs, Dewleaf saw her apprentice mix up the wrong herbs and knew that something was troubling him.
"Alright, what is wrong, Redwhisker? You've been off ever since Sparrowflight's kits were born! What is going on?"
Redwhisker hesitated, wondering if he should tell his mentor of the vision sent by Starclan.
He decided to and said, "Starclan sent me a vision, or something like that." His mentor gasped and looked at him expectantly.
"Firestar, Bramblestar, Leafpool, Squirrelstar, Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and
Dovewing were all looking down on the youngest of Sparrowflight's litter.
I didn't know what it was about but... I don't know. We should probably tell
Dawnstar though. We might have to go to the Moon Caves." Redwhisker started rambling.
"Redwhisker, you are starting to ramble again!" He stopped and stared at Dewleaf.
"First, we will do nothing except sleep, then at Sunrise we will go to Dawnstar and
you will tell her everything and every cat you saw. Okay?" She mewed.
He nodded and slowly padded over to his bed. Right when he was getting ready to curl up in it, he ran over to Dewleaf and licked her cheek. He didn't look back as he ran back to his nest and curled up into a ball, closed his eyes, and put his tail on his nose. Dewleaf stared at him surprised and stared at him until he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
She herself started to feel tired so she padded to her nest. Before she passed Redwhisker, she quietly went over to him and nuzzled her head gently over his shoulder so she didn't wake him up and licked his head softly. If only we weren't medicine cats!" Dewleaf thought as she curled up in her own nest.
