This Aftermath

A RE Tale

Ch. 2

"Richard..."

I hear water running, banging metal. I'm stretched out, on a gurney, my whole body is jostling as its being wheeled. Richard is looking down at me, his face framed in white glow.

"I'm still alive." I repeat this in my head to keep consciousness, as I feel it coming and going. "Somehow, im still alive..."

I feel the wheels lock up as the trip comes to I stop. Richard was never there. Wesker was never there. I know this. They are dead. I look up at the figure who has me. I was right. He was staring at me quietly in the soft orange light of the room we were in, reflecting loudly off the moisture stuck to the concrete walls.

It wasn't Richard. Or anyone I had seen before.

He was handsome and young, short cropped hair, sharp features, piercing eyes. He wore a lab coat. No logos, just white.

"Tell me," he began, his voice a deep, smooth ring. "How did you find this place?"

I remained silent, my gaze fixed on him. I worried for Rebeccas life. I remembered why I was here, what she told me. Now it seemed it may be true.

I remained silent, maintaining contact with the center of his pupils. It was then I realized that I wasn't shackled down. I wasn't strapped or bound to the bed. My wrists... My ankles... I wasn't being held.

"I know what you must be thinking," the man began. He shifted in his seat.

"Do you," I slowly began to sit myself up, rubbing my shoulders lightly. There was slight pain all throughout my body, and my recollection of exactly what happened was fuzzy at best. It seemed my vision was starting to clear, at least.

"Jill!" Rebecca's voice startled me as I saw her enter the room from behind the man. She ran up next to him, then to me, placing her small hands on my forehead and the side of my face. "I'm so glad you are awake. How do you feel?"

"Who is this man?"

Rebeccas smile faltered for a moment, but she bounced back quickly. "Jill, I want you to meet Dr. Elias Morrison."

The young man lowered his gaze from me, his obvious way to be formally greeted. I turned to Rebecca.

"I need to know what is going on."

"Jill, if I may-" Elias began. I could see by the expression on Rebeccas face that she expected one of two things to happen- me to cooperate, or me getting a tranquilizer for doing the opposite.

"I'm here for one thing only," I started, directing my response to Dr. Morrison. "And if what you are about to say has something to do with anything besides that reason," I looked at Rebecca. "I'm leaving."

"Well you're in luck." Elias smiled. "What I'm about to say is related to the exact reason you are here."

Elias stood from his seat, turning to Rebecca. He then approached me where I sat upon the gurney, sitting next to me.

The anxious feeling in my chest grew rapidly. I didn't want to listen to him. I didn't want to know. Perhaps I was foolish for coming here. For listening to Rebecca.

I was doing the one thing I never did on the STARS team, in the BSAA... I was second guessing my decision. Myself.

"Chris Redfield." He said the name and my lips silently moved in sync with his. "You're hear to know what happened to Chris Redfield."
