The evening of November 9th, 1847 was quiet within the Assassin headquarters, located in the basement of the abandoned Goff Mansion. Everyone was gathered in the quarters of Ethan and Cecily Frye, where on a bed laid Cecily, her belly round and clad in a black nightgown, was about to give birth. Earlier in the day, Cecily told Ethan that her water had broken, and that it would be a matter of time before she would give birth to their first child. Upon hearing her announcement, Ethan ordered his good friend George Westhouse to fetch the doctor, who had been staying within the headquarters for a few weeks in anticipation of her giving birth. Mentor Leonard Frye and Master Assassins Daniel Richardson and Juliette Marie Dorian made themselves present to witness the birth of the child. Ethan never left his wife's side, holding her hand as the labor process began. At the foot of the bed sat the doctor, in front of Cecily's spread legs, ready to deliver her child.
"Push, Mrs. Frye!"
Cecily let out a pained scream, pushing with all of her might, using Ethan's hand for leverage. Juliette walked over to Cecily's right side, and grabbed onto her hand. The doctor looked down to see the tip of a child's head. The doctor looked over to Ethan, telling him to tell Cecily to push again. Ethan looked down at his wife, who was beginning to sweat.
"Push, my love." Ethan said, wiping sweat from her forehead.
Cecily let out a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and pushed again, letting out another agonizing scream. Cecily's push forced the baby's upper body out. The doctor gently placed his hands on the infant, and urged for Cecily to push again. Cecily groaned, as Ethan grasped her hand tightly. Cecily pushed again with all she had in her, letting out a pained groan. After she pushed, her head hit the pillow immediately, resting as she took a couple of deep breaths. Ethan looked up to see the doctor's nurse cleaning up the infant, and swaddling it in a white cloth. The nurse approached Ethan.
"It's a girl!" She exclaimed, handing her to Ethan. "Do you have a name for her..."
Ethan was going to tell her the baby's name, before he was interrupted by the doctor.
"Nurse Rhodes, I'm going to need you again. There's a second child."
Ethan's eyes opened wide with shock.
"On my way over, Dr. Matherson." She replied, darting over to his side.
"Twins?" Ethan asked curiously, looking down at his wife, who looked rather winded.
"Indeed." Dr. Matherson stated. "The baby's head is already in the vaginal canal. Be ready to push, Mrs. Frye."
Cecily nodded her head, as Ethan handed the newborn to Cecily's mother, Jennifer. Ethan and Juliette clasped Cecily's hands as she prepared to pass the second child.
"Push, Mrs. Frye!" Dr. Matherson exclaimed. Cecily took another deep breath, clutched Ethan's hand tightly, and gave another mighty push, letting out another loud scream. Ethan noticed that Cecily's recent push was longer than her previous pushes. He was proud of the strength and resilience his wife was showing. Her push forced the baby out up to its waist.
"Excellent push, Mrs. Frye!" Dr. Matherson exclaimed. "I'll need one more push to get the the baby out fully."
"You can do it, my love." Ethan reassured his wife, as she prepared to push for the final time. Cecily smiled at her husband, face all sweaty, before returning her focus ahead of her. Cecily quickly pushed, groaning in pain as she did. After passing the child, Cecily felt a wave of relief hit her, before she passed out, exhausted from passing two babies.
Ethan looked down at his wife, worried as Nurse Rhodes began to clean up the second infant. Leonard approached Ethan's side as she came with the second infant.
"It's a boy!" Nurse Rhodes exclaimed happily.
"Son, is there anything you want me and Daniel to do for you and Cecily?"
George approached from behind Leonard.
"I was gonna asked the same thing."
"You had business before this, Father." Ethan replied to Leonard, as he took the younger twin from Nurse Rhodes. "I'm sure George can help me out with a thing or two here."
Leonard nodded his head. "Very well, son."
Leonard left the room, with Daniel in tow. George approached Ethan.
"What can I do for you, Ethan?"
Ethan looked over to Cecily's mother, holding the first born twin. Ethan looked back over to Cecily who was beginning to stir, much to Ethan's relief.
"I just want you to be here for when we name them."
George smiled, and watched as Jennifer got up, and walked over to her daughter's right side. Ethan got up, and placed the young infant in Cecily's left arm. Jennifer did the same, placing the older twin in Cecily's right arm. Nurse Rhodes and Dr. Matherson placed Cecily's legs back on the bed.
"We won't be far away if you need us." Nurse Rhodes said, with a smile. Ethan returned the smile, and the nurse and doctor left the room, leaving Ethan, Jennifer, and George in the room with Cecily. Cecily looked up at her husband.
"What should we name them, dear?"
"I'll name the girl, if you name the boy." Cecily replied, sounding tired.
Ethan thought for a few moments, thinking of names for the young boy. A few named darted through his mind.
Jonathan, James, William, Jacob, Ethan thought. There's the name. Jacob. After his grandfather.
"The boy's name will be Jacob, named after my grandfather."
Cecily smiled with approval, as did George. Jennifer came up from behind him.
"I love the name, Ethan." Jennifer said happily, patting the new father on the back. "Cecily dear, have you come up with a name for your daughter yet?"
Cecily looked down at her daughter, who began to start crying in her arm.
"It's all right, Evie. It's all right. Momma's here."
Ethan smiled upon hearing the name Evie. Evie was short for Evangeline, which also happened to be her mother's middle name.
"I love the name, Cecily." Jennifer informed her daughter, as she sat on the right side of Cecily's bed. George stood at Cecily's left, while Ethan sat down beside her, rubbing Jacob's head. A tear of happiness rolled down Ethan's cheek upon seeing his newborn twins Evie and Jacob. The newborns each placed their heads on Cecily's breasts, and shut their eyes. Before long, Cecily laid her head down, and fell asleep herself. George, Juliette and Jennifer quietly left the room as Ethan shut his eyes, allowing the parents to rest with their children for the first time.
