Ron knew it was a mistake letting Hermione decide on their Valentine's Day plans for this year. Even though many thought him to be the un-romantic one, it was really Hermione who had no clue on that front. Not that she didn't try, of course. Ron liked to think they were both equals when it came to their relationship, and he hoped Hermione saw it that way too.

But a library. Really? It was the equivalent of him taking her to a quidditch match, for Merlin's sake! He appreciated the effort, he really did, but he didn't know how to tell her politely that it just wasn't his thing. He had so far refrained from doing any such thing, for one look at her face and he could practically feel the nervousness radiating from her unsure smile, her worried eyes.

All the plans he had in mind for tonight seemed to slip away as he was led further and further into the seemingly endless array of books. He fought to keep the smile on his face as she dragged him into what he could only assume was going to be a dull evening full of books and reading. Not exactly his idea of a fun date, but it was worth it as he got to spend it with Hermione.

They kept on walking until they reached a large set of doors at the end of the corridor. Ron supposed it just led to more books (it was a library, after all). Hermione reached out for the brass handle, but turned to him before twisting it. "Are you ready?" she asked with a smirk. Ron thought this a peculiar question, so he simply raised his eyebrows in answer. Hermione's smirk seemed to increase as she gave a small twist and pushed the door open.

Ron's jaw dropped. The room before him stretched out for what could have been miles, littered with elegant looking tables and fancy dressed waiters dodging in and out of them, carrying dishes of expensive champagne and exquisite food. Bookshelves lined the dimly lit walls, and the whole place smelt like new parchment and something flowery. He turned to Hermione, her expression expectant, waiting for his verdict. "You're amazing, you are." Was the only eloquent thing he managed to say.

"Always the tone of surprise," she replied with ease. It was then that Ron Weasley decided letting Hermione choose their Valentine's plans was not such a bad idea after all.
