~Author's Note~
Okay to answer your questions Sara (since sadly you don't have an account so i can comment a reply to you) I'm just typing it here so hopefully you read this.
I wanted to start the story differently then most and have it kind of be like the movie how Scott was as an adult and start talking about that summer he had. I thought it was a pretty cool idea to do and I'm glad that you liked it as well. And Yes you are correct; Benny is the father. Also I don't have an updating schedule as of right now, because of school so updates are random as of now. But when summer comes around hopefully I can keep up to updating once a week (:
Chapter One
June, 1962
~Harper~
"This is it kids."
My mother stated once Bill had parked the car in the driveway of a bubble gum pink house. I crossed my arms over my chest and glared at the house, I didn't want to be here I wanted to be in the place where all my family and friends were; and it sure as hell was not here.
"Come on Harper help us unpack." my mom said to me.
I snapped out my thoughts and looked away from the house and right at her with a frown on my lips before speaking.
"I want to go home."
"This is home now Harper." she said and then got out of the car.
"This will never be home."I mumbled, knowing she couldn't hear me complain.
I looked around and noticed that I was the only one in the car. They had all left me to go unpack, even Scotty who was just as disappointed of leaving home as I was. Traitor. I sighed and uncrossed my arms and then undid the seat belt. I opened the door and then got out of the vehicle, stretching out my legs in the process since I've been cramped up in a car with not much room for hours.
I walked over to the bright orange U-haul trailer that had been opened and showed all of our belongings.
"I see you have decided to switch sides little brother." I said to Scotty.
He looked up at me and replied "I didn't switch sides Harper it's just that there's no point in moping we're already here."
I rolled my eyes and grabbed a random box from the trailer and then walked up the driveway and inside the house. The inside looked much better then the outside I must say, because bubble gum pink does not suit for a house color in my opinion. The walls were creme colored which is nice for a living room I guess. I looked down at the box and saw that it had the word "kitchen" scribbled on it in big black letters.
I walked through the living room into a smaller room which I would take an educated guess and say it was for a dining area, right next to it there was a kitchen where my mother resided at the counter taking objects out of it's box and placing them where ever she decided it belonged. Once I put the box on the floor mom's head snapped up and looked at me.
"Well I'm glad you have decided to help out." She said with a small smile on her lips.
I bit back a remark because as much as I was angry right now I didn't want to put my mother in an awful mood. So I just turned around and walked to the front door ready to get more boxes.
Just as I was about to step outside I saw Scotty wave like a dork at some boy that was walking home. The boy gave a nod in return and started walking once more. I didn't really get a good look at the boy except that he was tan and had what what I thought was jet black hair. I shook my head and walked over towards Scott.
"Word of advice buddy, to make friends you have to actually speak to them." I said before ruffling his hair.
"Harper!" He yelled annoyed.
I simply laughed in return and went to go get more boxes to start unpacking this stuff into my new "home"
Hours had passed and the house was mostly finished with unpacking, just some things here and there that still had to be put away. As for my room? It had boxes still all over the place with all kinds of things ranging from clothes, to make up and everything in between. Needless to say I take forever to unpack... A part of me is still hoping that Bill and mom had said this was some cruel joke and that we are going to go back home so I've been procrastinating it as much as I can tonight. But of course the rest of me (the common sense part) knows that it's just bull.
As I sat on the floor going though the boxes and folding clothes and putting them in to piles and humming to the radio that was currently playing a song from The Beatles; Scotty came into my room and sat on my bed.
"What up Buddy?" I asked as I took out a pair of shorts and began folding them.
"So uh um.." He replied while twiddling his thumbs.
I raised my eye brow and stood up and then sat right next to him on the bed.
"Spit it out already Scotty." I replied
He sighed nodded.
"I've been thinking about school, what if nobody likes me here Harps"
Well looks like it's time for some amazing big sister advice.
"Scotty, people are going to like you I promise you that. You just have to put yourself out there, maybe start playing some sports?" I suggested.
"Well like what?" Scotty asked in pure curiosity.
"Hmm, football, soccer.. oh what about Baseball!"
"But I don't know how to play any of those." Scotty whined.
"Scotty I love you with all my heart but you are so dense sometimes... Bill is a baseball fanatic he can teach you how to play baseball."
"Oh yeah!" Scotty yelled and then ran out my room and down the hall.
I shook my head and laughed as I slid back down onto the floor and began folding more clothes.
"Get some sleep Harper it's getting late." My mother spoke as she stuck her head into the door. I looked up from the journal I had been currently writing in and nodded. I haven't really spoke to my mother nor Bill all day for obvious reasons.
"Listen, I know you're still upset about the move Harper but you have got to make the best of the situation. You can't just be moping around this summer." Mom stated now fully in the bedroom sitting at my desk chair.
"How am I going to make the best of the situation mom? I have two weeks until summer that's not enough time to make friends and you know it." I replied,
Boy am I such a hypocrite, I give poor Scotty advice of putting himself out there and odds are I'm not even going to follow my own damn advice.
Mom sighed and began talking once more.
"Please just try Harper, If you try you'll make friends." And with that Mom got up from the chair, gave me a kiss on the forehead and walked out the door; shutting it behind her.
"Yeah I doubt that, I don't want new friends, I want my old friends and I just wanna go back home." I grumbled then slammed my journal shut and put it on the bed side table.
I turned off the light and got underneath the blankets and laid right down and tried to fall asleep.

Third Person
"Wow mom you were really stubborn about the move." Sadie stated.
Harper laughed. "Well I was thirteen and I had to move to a whole other state and leave everything I knew, what do you expect?" Harper replied.
Sadie just shrugged in return.
"Okay are you done cutting the vegetables?" Harper asked her daughter.
Sadie nodded
"Okay next Can you get a pot and put hot water in it and then turn on the stove and put the pot onto the stove and dump the vegetables in the pot." Harper instructed and Sadie did just as told.
"So when does Dad come into the story?"
"Hush child a good story is never rushed." Harper replied
"Now where was I? Oh yeah, so..."
