Chapter Two: Mine
Ace traveled through alley ways silently looking, searching for a victim, for knowlege, for a truth. His eyes had a cloudy anger hidden beneath his neutral mask of a normal 15 year old, his grip on his pole tight with tension. He took a deep breath, feeling the air fill inside his lungs, the air today was brisk and light. He stopped on a corner and looked up into the sky, wondering when his heart would stop feeling so heavy at times and when the anger would leave him, but he never had an answer for himself.
His eyes immediately came down again at the small noise of a rock being kicked in his general direction, two drunk men came tumbling towards him in the small alley way, trying to get past him no doubt. Ace huffed and turned so they could walk past, holding his breath so he wouldn't have to smell the toxic alcohol on their breath. One of the men, with a dark grey hat on his head that was shaped like an eggplant glanced up at his face, one thing Ace noticed about the man was his eyes. The mans eyes were grey, a dusty grey that suddenly peirced through ace with recognition.
The man stopped and and put a hand on his partners chest stopping him as well, at this point they were almost chest to chest with Ace, almost intimidiatingly but Ace stood his ground and thought that he could wait for them to stare and then leave him be, but to no avail.
The eggplant hatted mans partner stopped abruptly and then looked up confused and a bit annoyed and tried to shove past his partners arm until the hatted man spoke to Ace.
"Sorry but you look familiar. Who are you brat?" The gruff voice of the grey-eyed man asked.
Ace annoyed and a little creeped out, huffed and spit out "The name is Ace and that's all the information your getting out of me you old man. Now leave me be." Ace tried to walk away, he had other business to tend to, like clearing his head or the long walk home to Luffy and Makino.
"No no no, you look exactly like... no... you look exactly like that disgusting Gold Roger! Just like him... Who are you?" The man shoved Ace in the shoulder and seemed too drunk to put in much strength.
Ace growled and shoved back hard, the grey eyed man tumbled back into his partner with brown eyes who frowned greatly. "None of your fucking business, why would you care about gold roger old man?" Ace's heart was thumping hard, he hadn't heard his fathers name since he was a kid and had wanted to interrogate drunk bastards like the egg plant man, to know more about his father, until he learned the truth that his father was rotten.
"The bastard Gold Roger is the reason I'm so miserable, though its not possible to be related to him, if you were I'd gut you right here and now." The older man laughed and walked past Ace with confidence. "Sorry for the disturbance, I'm just a old man who can hold a grudge. Lucky for you you're not related to that disgusting filth, remember that." The man laughed again, and this time his partner joined in as they walked away.
Something snapped in Ace as he heard more bad talk about his supposed father, he was more than surprised that someone actually assumed he was his son, no one had ever made the connection before until now, though its a good thing they gave up on their crazy drunk idea, no matter how true it was. Ace stalked after them and began to throw his tense fist after the older mans face when suddenly he was gone.
A sudden pain in Aces back had him on his knees, and his face shoved into the mud. The man was quick and strong, taking Ace by surprise since he thought the man was a drunk. "Now now... Did I say something to hurt your feelings kid? Hah! Are you a defender of a traitor like Gold Roger?" The old mans spit flew into Ace's ear making him grimace and struggle under the mans weight. Ace regretted eating all that food earlier, it was starting to make him tired. Instead he growled and turned his head getting a look at the grey eyes of the man who was smiling wickedly.
"My my, now with a face as obvious as that you must be related to that bastard, you're the spitting image of his stupidity. Now admit it you son of a bitch!" The man pressed Aces face deeper into the ground, putting a lot of pressure onto Aces temples almost until it felt like his skull was going to break.
And suddenly the pain was gone.
Ace growled and flew up standing, his eyes suddenly turn from angry to wide and surprised.
"...L-Luffy? What are you doing? You're supposed to be with Makino you idiot!"
There in front of Ace was Luffy who had already taken out the other mans partner, no wonder he wasn't there to kick Ace when the old man had him pinned down. Speaking of the old man, he was groaning in pain since Ace assumed Luffy had flew his fist to his face. And knowing Luffy's punches when he was mad, he was going to have a large bruise there. For awhile.
"Why was this man hurting you Ace? Noones supposed to hurt you." Luffy turned to look at him, a bit of anger and mostly confusion filled his eyes. Ace's heart dropped when he remembered his promise to Luffy after Sabo's passing. Now that Luffy was 12 years old, Ace thought he wouldnt be as clingy as he was when they had met but that never stopped.
Luffy grabbed Ace's hand and started running home, Ace sighed and laughed at the same time. Classic Luffy. Ace felt his heart get a bit lighter now that he was with Luffy his brother. His loving and messy brother. He felt kindness flare up in him to his surprise and stopped luffy from pulling him and picked his brother up and pulled him onto his back and began running home.
Luffy laughed and held tight and began to hum a tune, and pointed at the most random of stuff. Luffy loved his brother when he was like this, when he gave Luffy all his attention and even more affection than he usually got.
Ace let go of his harsh feelings from earlier, and even his anger at himself for being caught off guard from an old drunk man and his stupidity. He let go and just held on to Luffy, the only thing that mattered to him in the world at this moment.
The sun shone through the trees, almost ready to start setting when the two brothers made it into the village and its pathway. The cicada's and other insects buzzing and making noises of a regular summer evening. Ace let Luffy onto the ground and nodded his head to let his little brother follow him. Luffy wasn't having that as he grabbed Ace's hand and stopped him.
"Ace?" Luffys tired voice asked as a gentle breeze swifted through the air.
"Hm?" His response wasn't much but Ace was definitely curious as to what Luffy wanted this time.
A long pause.
Ace sighed and faced his brother, who looked serious and like he was thinking hard which worried him.
"... Race me?" Luffys voice squeaked as he ran down the cobble stoned path to Makino's bar.
Ace's eyes widened and narrowed as he took off and Ace began to run. And he ran and ran until the two of them were inside Makino's bar and were racing up to their shared bedroom. Ace made it inside an inch behind Luffy, and he swiftly picked his little brother up by the waist and spun him around and pulled him with him onto the bed next to them.
Luffy was laughing hysterically, trying to remember a time when Ace and him had this much fun, when they werent training and weren't arguing but were having fun.
After a tickle fight, and a pillow war, and feathers everywhere Ace and Luffy settled in bed next to eachother.
"Ne, Ace?" Luffys tired worn out voice asked once more, Ace hummed in response.
"You know I dont care who you are, right?" Luffy asked looking at him.
Ace snorted. "Wow thanks Lu"
Luffy shoved him a bit, and rested his chin on Ace's shoulder.
"I meant I dont care who's son you are, and that you're mine, Ace. You're mine." Luffy hummed afterwards, clearly tired out.
"Yes, well I'm your brother Luffy. I know that at least." Ace looked down at his brothers face, Luffy's eyes were closed and he wondered if he was sleeping.
"One day I want you to be..." Luffy yawned and started snoring. Classic Luffy.
"One day? One day what Lu, what do you want?" Ace whispered and tucked his little brother into bed.
"I'd do anything to give you everything." Aces soft voice encouraged Luffy to sleep more. Ace smiled and thought 'everything you want.'
"Goodnight Luffy." And promptly fell asleep himself.
Authors Note: Haha how many months or years has it been? I changed the writing style, cause I havent written in months or a year or two... you know. I'm a mess but I thought it'd be fun to write a chapter. Sorry if its a mess. At least I wrote something am I right? Hope you enjoyed it anyways.
