Danny slowly opened the door to what was his daughters bedroom. It was time for him to pick out the last dress that Grace would ever wear. The thought that was killing him. He walked shakily into the room looking around at all the things that were hers. The purple bed spread that hung half off the bed not being made on the morning that she left. A few clothes lay about on the white carpet. For Grace's age she kept her room pretty neat. She was better about it than her father was at her age, still was as Steve could attest to. He would always leave a mess until he lefy home not caring that his mother had to clean up his room.

He walked over to her closet that was wide open. Looking inside there wasn't much clothes. Having only spent a few days a week at the most at his place she didn't ever bring very many things. He ran his fingers down the only dress that was hanging in the middle. It was white with lace around the bottom that he had gotten her for a school party that was a few weeks away. A party he now realized that she would never go to.

With a shaky hand that was wrapped in bandages he touched the dress that still had the price tag on it. Maybe if he had let his ex-wife move to Vegas his Grace would still be alive. He wouldnt see her that much but at least she would still be alive. If he had kept her longer this past week. If he had driven her. So many ifs that made his head hurt more. He should have been able to stop it. Because Daddy's are supposed to protect their little girls. He looked down at the shoes that littered the bottom of her closet. He had to chose those too. Then a thought came to him. When his mother had come to visit last she had given him something to give Grace when she finished high school. A necklace that had belonged to his great grandmother, passed down to each daughter. He would make sure she had it today. The last thing he would ever give her, and he would never see the thankfulness or the joy on her face when he gave it to her. He went over to the bed, and sat down, taking her pillow he held it to him, his face buried in it, her scent was on it. He just wanted her back so badly. He looked up at the ceiling, his face wet. "God, I'm not big on prayer as you know. But please God give her back to me. You can take me in her place, I'll change my ways, I'll do better. I'll do anything...whatever you want from me. Please, I'm begging you." His voice choked up and he could talk no more.

Steve's POV...

I locked my door walking over to my navy blue truck I got in. I tried to call Danny serval times this morning and all I was his voice mail. My heart still felt for my best friends loss. I had checked up on him last night but he yelled at me until I left. All I wanted to do was stay with him until Grace and Rachel's funeral. My heart ached just thinking about it.

I knew he needed time but I just don't want him to go though this by himself. I know he needs us now more than ever. I called Chin before I left my home telling him that I was going to pick Danny up for the funeral.

It was a very emotional time for everyone here and towards the end Danny had placed the last flower on Grace's casket, his hand shaking as sobs rocked his frame. Rachel's casket had been lowered a few minutes before as she was next to Grace. He sat on the wet grass as they lowered her down to her final resting place. And the rain that had been falling all of the day started to come down even harder. Me, Chin and Kono walked over to stand near Danny letting him know that we were all there for him. Stan was one of the last to leave out of the ones we did not know. The poor widower wept under his black umbrella for his lost wife and his step daughter. He left in a black Satan soon after. Danny was whispering under his breath, I could barely hear him. But he was angry. "You didn't give her back! God, why? I offered you everything I have, I hate you! You let her die."

I looked down at Danny as he pulled his knees up to his chin the rain hiding his tears but I could feel my friends pain. I had no umbrella since I had given it to Rachel's mother. I took a seat next to Danny placing my arm over him, I rubbed circles on his back as he rocked himself back and forth. This was something no parent should ever have to go though and unfortunately happens more often than not. The way life is suppose to be is that the children watch there parents grow old and then one day bury them not the other way around. My heart felt heavy for my friend and I knew Kono and Chin felt the same way.

Kono took the seat on Danny's right and Chin took his place next to her. We sat like this in the pouring rain until the sun went down. By then Danny was laying in the wet grass in the fetal position having cried himself to sleep. I looked over at Kono and Chin as they shook there head. I knew they were thinking the same thing as me that it was time to go. So I stood up a shiver going down my back.

I reached down grabbing a hold of Danny's arms and I heaved him into a sitting position. Wrapping my left arm his middle I heaved him up into a fireman's carry. I was almost surprised that he didn't make a peak, not even a twitch. But I knew he hadn't slept since that awful day.

"I'll take him to my place." I told Kono who helped me get Danny into the back seat. "I'll be able to keep a better eye on him there."

Kono smiled at me as she shook her head in agreement. But I could see the pain and sadness in her eyes. I pulled her into a tight hug. I was at a loss for words and I didn't feel like talking anyway with the lump that was growing in the back of my throat. This was going to be a long journey and an even longer one for Danny.

Once I arrived at home I used my key and carried him inside. I made my way to my spare bedroom that my sister uses when she comes over knowing that he would be able to sleep better in a good bed than on my sofa. I walked into the dark room, I didn't want to turn the lights on in fear of waking Danny up from his much needed sleep. I was about to place him on the bed when he suddenly awoke struggling in my arms.

But before I could put him down he kicked me in my prized place and I went down backwards. I fell onto the the hardwood floor on my back the air was knocked from my lungs and before I could suck in a breath there was a sudden pressure around my neck cutting off my windpipe. "Dan..." I tried to call out but the pressure grew cutting my voice out, he was strong for his size. I reached up grabbing at whatever was around my neck. I patted at Danny's arm that was cutting off my air supply hoping he would let go. I reached my hand out grabbing at whatever I could reach, and it happened to be Danny's hair. I pulled hard and Danny cried out as I pulled his head closer, bringing up my free hand I punched Danny in the face. His arm slipped away from my neck as a groan passed his lips.

I coughed looking over at him just as he kicked out barely missing my head. "Its me Danny!" I called out to him.

"Steve?" I could hear my partner ask his voice low.

I got off the floor, turning on the lights I looked down at Danny. He looked up at me confusion in his eyes. "Where am I?" He asked me bringing his hand up to his now bleeding nose.

"My house." I told him kneeling in front of him rubbing my throat. I grabbed a kleenex from the box by the bed and handed it to him. He took it with his free hand, and put it to his nose.

"I'm sorry.." Danny mumbled though the kleenex at me.

"It's alright Danno." I told him placing my hand on my partners shoulder.

Danny looked up at the Navy Seal anger in his eyes. "Don't you ever call me that again Steve." Danny told him, threatening.
