Brightclaw237: Here we are with chapter one of The Guardian's Quest. Brightclaw has taken Dina, Dino, and Todd under as apprentices in Fossil battling. Brightclaw is in search of Hunter and Blaze. She is followed by a few members of her team. Brightclaw and the other members of her team have all of their vivosaurs with them, but they will not use them all. Also, it has now been five days since the prologue. I got tired of waiting, so I came up with my own names. It was supposed to be a fun thing for the readers, but I guess you don't want to think of names for vivosaurs.I only own the angel-hounds.

I start to write down in my Fighter's journal. Two years have passed since our departure from Vivosaur Island. I have gotten slightly taller, and my fur has darkened slightly, becoming a silver ash color. Myclaws have also gotten brighter, luckily that should keep me strong enough while I slowly weaken from not being able to protect my partner three years ago. I have gotten word of a Fossil Fighter's tournament on a group of isles. I am hoping to run into Hunter and Blaze. Dina still keeps asking to battle me. I have not let Dina and Dino battle once since joining our team for now, for three reasons. Todd Yuuki, age first being that Todd has nobody to battle with. The second being that our vivosaurs are far too strong for Todd to handle. The final reason being, to teach the three about Fossil Fighting 101, the basics. They have learned about the elemental advantages and disadvantages, ranges, zones, support effects, and status effects. They have all excelled in every test. Todd has a small problem though. He is very shy, and doesn't give himself enough credit for his efforts. I have seen what he does after classes. He would climb up a tree with his bare hands, just to help an injured animal back to its home. Todd is truly a kind-hearted teen. There is also Dina Toushi, age 15.A strong spirited girl. She will be on her feet the moment she hears the word "battle". She keeps trying to encourage her cousin to cheer up, and don't ever give up. To be honest, she also almost looks like me, as a human. Only I would never wear my hair in a ponytail especially a side-ponytail. Dina has the strongest connection with her vivosaur compared to her older brother. Dina having be able to speak with her vivosaur mentally, but she has also taught how to speak the human language, as well as our own vivosaurs. Our vivosaurs stay quiet though, not wanting to attract any unwanted attention. Lastly, there is Dino Toushi, age 16. He is suspicious of me, and is always asking what I am. I tell him that I am an angel-hound, nothing else. Overall, he is an excellent student. He specializes in air elemental vivosaurs. Every air vivosaur that has met him, warms right up to him. Later on in the tournament, I will tell them the truth of my origin. If I tell them now, they will probably leave and tell the world about Hunter and Blaze's disappearance. I finish writing down in my journal and get Whirlwind out of his medal. "Okay, time to go everybody!" I bark, waking everyone up. We get things picked up, and climb onto Whirlwind's back. Lucy grabs onto Holt for support as Whirlwind swiftly flies to the islands. We pass by a helicopter as we near the island that holds the registration. I have Whirlwind land by the heliport. People start to crowd around us, but we all run through the crowd and head for the registry. I then see the signup sheet at the counter.
"Final call for registration!" A female staff member calls out.
When we reach the counter, I am panting from lack of oxygen. "W…wait…we…n…n…eed…t…to…r…regis…ter." I bark.
"Alright, then what are your names?" The staff member asks.
Regaining my breath I begin to speak. "Dina Toushi, age 15. Dino Toushi, age 16. Todd Yuuki, age 15. Brightclaw Thunder, age 16." I bark as she writes down the information on the clipboard in her hands.
As soon as I let my guard down, a sudden beeping rings out, causing me jump out of my fur. "Alright, registration is now closed." She smiles.
I calm down, and look at Ryuu and Kiri's medals from within my collar. 'I will need your help at times, so tell me if you can sense them." I tell them.
'Understood, Brightclaw. We will let you know immediately, if we sense their presence.' Ryuu growls from inside his medal, but for some reason though, Kiri is very quiet.
'What's wrong with Kiri?' I ask Ryuu.
'The two of us know how it feels to lose a friend, something about this island is causing Kiri to remember some old memories of our past. She may come around in a few days or a week.' Ryuu explains.
'I hope, you two have also changed in shape and size over time.' I mentally laugh to Ryuu. Ryuu has changed from a fiery Alectro, to a T-Rex that is made of molten and liquid rock. Kiri's body has become very detailed as well. Ice has now built up on her back to form a frozen mountain range along her spine. Her the ice has also froze over the rest of her body and has crystallized to form armor. The only ones that know about Ryuu and Kiri are Holt, Lucy, Sparky, Yuki, Frost, and Dina. Somehow she had stumbled onto them when I had removed my collar once, which is a very rare thing for me to do. I only take off my collar to remind myself of my adopted brother. 'If anyone else finds out about you two, things could get crazy. Especially if the fans find out, then I would probably be fought over.' I shuddered at the thought of noisy, crazed, and rabid fans.
A door then opens from the left side of the lobby, and a woman in her twenties comes through with a familiar wild-hound. The wild-hound has patches of autumn and spring leaf colored fur, her claws are a golden yellow color, as well as her eyes. The woman has light brown hair pulled into a short ponytail. She is wearing an outfit similar to the other staff members, but her clothes are a light yellow and bright green, she also is wearing a sky blue and white visor on her head. She and the wild-hound are also wearing the special scarves that I had made for the Fighter's association about three years ago. The wild-hound looks over and sees me, she then barrels me into a hug. "Brightclaw, how've you been?!" Springflame barks, helping me up.
"I have been better, but battling without them just doesn't feel the same as they used to." I bark at her. "No luck so far, and it has been over two years. I won't be giving up anytime soon though. I promised a friend that I would find them." I sigh, showing Springflame the photo of Team Fiery-Spark, when we were all together. I turn to my three students and introduce Springflame. "This is Springflame, a former clanmate of mine when I lived in a forest for a few years." I bark.
"If anyone can find them, it would be you, Brightclaw. You're them best at finding things, you found your little brother on an island that was hidden from detection." Springflame barks, putting a paw over my right shoulder and looks me in the eyes. "Just don't let the wild-hound spirit inside of you run free. Do not try to stop your instincts though, accept them and they will guide you along the right path." Springflame smiles at me.
"Thanks, Springflame." I say, holding back the tears that try threaten to fall.
"The woman then spots me talking with Springflame. "I wasn't expecting to see you here, Brightclaw!" She smiles at me, and holds out her hand.
"Hey there, Stella! It's been awhile hasn't it?" I laugh, shaking her hand.
"It sure has, I haven't heard anything about you or a few members of your team for two years now. Where have you all been?" Stella asks.
"For the past two years, the nine of us have been searching for the missing members of the team." I sigh.
"So, they still haven't been found?" Stella asks.
"Correct, the only other thing that keeps me strong besides my claws, is the gift that he gave me." I bark. "Also, I have three students that are also taking place in the tournament with me. The girl is Dina, she is always ready to battle. I haven't let her and her brother, Dino for the past two years for certain reasons. Dino is the kid with the blue hair. The two are siblings, and then there is their cousin Todd. He can be a bit shy at times." I explain.
"Brightclaw has come to take place in the tournament to find them." Springflame barks.
"So then, you won't be needing the orientation since you are a Master Fighter." Stella laughs.
"No, I will be taking the orientation. I don't want to attract any unwanted attention, or fans." I sigh.
"Understood, then come with me, all of you." Stella says as she takes Dina, Dino, Todd, and I to the door on the left side of the room. "Here is the most important place for a Fossil Fighter." Stella explains as we enter a large room full of cylinder shaped chambers. Holt, Lucy, Sparky, and Frost head off to make camp. Even though there are rooms for spectators and Fighters, my team prefers to stay away from the pampered life. Dina, Dino, and Todd will be in their own rooms though, unless they set up their own camp.
"What is this place?" Todd asks.
"It looks like…" Dina is cut off by Springflame.
"Welcome to the most important place for Fighters, the Cleaning Room!" Springflame happily barks.
"I knew it!" Dina exclaims, her eyes shine with eagerness and excitement.
"So you all already know what each thing is then?" Stella asks.
"Yes, Brightclaw had taught us everything that we needed to know over the past two years." Dino explains to Stella.
"Then let's quiz you three on your knowledge." Stella says, walking over to a large table with grids. "Dina, you are first. What is this machine right here called?" Stella asks Dina.
"That would be the cleaning grid." Dina answers.
"That is correct, Dina." Stella says.
"Todd, what is the device used for?" Stella asks him.
"Y…You…you…free the fossil from within the rock." Todd stutters.
"That is also correct. Now Dino, what are those cylinder shaped chambers called and used for?" Stella asks.
"They would be the revival chambers, which are used for reviving vivosaurs from the fossils that are placed inside." Dino answers, without hesitation.
"You all have been taught well. Not surprisingly since you learned from Brightclaw and her teammates." Springflame barks. "Now it is time for you all to clean and revive a vivosaur of your own. You won't be needing to at all, Brightclaw." She barks.
I watch my three students clean their fossils. I walk over to Todd and guide him in the cleaning. "Todd, this will be your partner, your first vivosaur will have your back if you trust it. Be calm as you clean, you may have a strong connection with your vivosaur." I bark, as Todd slowly cleans the head fossil.
"A strong connection?" Todd asks.
"Yes, a Fighter that has a powerful bond with their vivosaur can actually hear the vivosaur speaking to them telepathically." I explain.
"I still have my first vivosaur, and it is a Spinax. His name is Slash, he has helped me get through some tough battles in my life. We didn't always win though. There was a time when I was too weak to fight, and I was getting weaker with each passing second. If it wasn't for my fire elemental vivosaurs and my friend, I could have died." I explain. "You and your cousins must trust your vivosaurs to protect you, and they must trust you to protect them. There are people out there who would do anything to steal strong and rare vivosaurs." I warn Todd.
"Okay, I will have trust in my partner, Brightclaw." Todd says, continuing to clean his fossil.
I walk over to Dina now, and see that her fossil has no scratches at all. She is almost finished cleaning. 'Impressive, great job on the perfect cleaning.' I smile, turning to see one of the revival chambers fill up with mist. When the mist clears, a large theropod covered in violet and yellow scales is left where a skull fossil had been. "Looks like you have a rare vivosaur on your team, Dino." I bark, standing next to him.
"Really, which vivosaur is it?" Dino asks.
"That would be a Tarbosaurus, other known as Tarbo." I answer his question.
"How rare is it?" Dino asks.
"You sound like a child right now!" I laugh, but Dino shoots me a look that says: Do not. "Tarbo is very rare on Vivosaur Islan, it took me weeks to find a Tarbosaurus head fossil!" I laugh. "Here on these islands though, a Tarbo is beyond rare. It is almost impossible to find a Tarbo here, I think that this one was destined to become your team member." I explain, looking at the theropod. 'It's eyes are still closed, but I sense a great power inside of it.' I think as Dino walks up to the Tarbo.
"Hey, Brightclaw? What type is a Tarbo." Dino asks.
"A Tarbo is an air element, just like . It is also close-range like as well. On Vivosaur, Tarbo is an attack class vivosaur. One of the strongest air types as well." I explain.
The Tarbo now opens its eyes, and let's out a tremendous roar. "He's like a hurricane." Dino says, as the Tarbo walks out of the revival chamber and sniffs Dino. All that Dino does is let the Tarbo on its large snout, and it calms down.
'Was it you who had given me life again?' A deep male voice asks inside of Dino's head.
'Are you the Tarbo?' Dino asks, telepathically. The Tarbo nods in confirmation. 'Yes, I have revived you.' Dino answers the Tarbo.
'What is my name?' Tarbo asks.
'You will be called Hurricane. You are fierce and strong like one.' Dino explains to Tarbo.
'It is perfect. I will follow you into battle, Dino.' Hurricane says.
By now, everyone has their vivosaurs revived. Dina has a Dimorph, a member of the pterasaur family. Todd has Dr. Diggins favorite vivosaur, Stegosaurus. With their vivosaurs revived, Stella and Springflame take us to the common room. "Devon Strait will explain the battle format to you, even though you all probably already know how it goes." Stella says as a staff member comes over to us.
"Hiya!" He says. "I'm Devon Strait, and I'm here to get you familiar with all of the Cup's Fossil Fighting rules. First off, let me show you how a team is assembled for battle." Devon says as he takes us to a training room. "There are three vivosaurs that you take out with you are in the SZ and AZ. The front is the AZ, and the back is the SZ. The vivosaurs in the AZ get support on the ones from the SZ. There are two vivosaurs in the reserves, but they don't fight in the battles. You have two choices for your team's formation. The Jurassic Formation, two vivosaurs in the AZ, or the Cambrian Formation, two vivosaurs in the SZ." Devon explains.
'So then, I will use the Cambrian Formation mostly.' I think, noticing the upgrades that Yuki installed.
"Now, I'll explain how an actual battle works." Devon says as he takes us four onto battlefields. "I've got some demo teams, so let's go into Fossil Stadium." He says as we all get on each end of the battlefields.
"YES!" Todd cheers.
"We finally get to go inside a Fossil Stadium!" Dina shouts, jumping up and down in joy.
"We finally get to go inside a Fossil Stadium!" Dina shouts, jumping up and down in joy.
"Not exactly. This is just a training area, for the beginners." Devon explains.
"Oh, whoops." Dina says, scratching the back of her head with her hand.
"All right, let me show you how team battling works." Devon says. "The three closest to the enemy side are the Attack Zones. The three zones farthest away from the enemy side are the Support Zones. The team with the highest speed attacks first. Low-speed vivosaurs can be teamed up with high-speed vivosaurs to make up for that." Devon explains to us. Devon goes on and on, lecturing us on what I have already taught the three. "One last thing to keep in mind..." Devon tells us. "If a Fighter lacks strategy or ability, victory will prove impossible. Remember that alright? Now get out there and show 'em what you're made of! Good luck!" He says, walking back into the commons room and leaving us with Stella and Springflame.
"That's it for orientation you four." Springflame barks.
You're now officially entered in the Caliosteo Cup. Your opponents will be automatically chosen by the computer. Also, whenever you finish a Cup match, you'll be granted access to a new dig site. Wait, I almost forgot, I have your Paleopagers right here." Stella says, handing me and object that is bigger than my paws.
"We send news and notices out to Paleopagers, via the Fossil Messaging Service or FMS." Springflame explains to the my students. "One of Yuki's friends invented them. They are very useful!" She barks.
BING-BONG-BING!
"This is an important public-service announcement from Caliosteo Fossil Park. The Caliosteo Cup opening ceremony will be kicking off shortly. All interested parties should meet in front of the Fighter Station." The announcer says.
BING-BONG-BING!
"Okay, that's my cue." Stella tells us. "Good luck you four!" She says. Stella and Springflame goe out the door, and my students look at me.
"We should be heading outside as well." I say as I lead my students out of the Fossil Center.
"I bet the opening ceremony is gonna be awesome." Todd exclaims.
"Yeah! Maybe Joe will even show up!" Dina says.
"Do not be so hasty you two. Be calm and keep your composure. We don't want to scare any fossils with your yelling, not to mention you are hurting my ears." I bark, covering my dog ears.
"I wish they would start already!" Exclaims a little girl.
"I've got the fever, and the only cure is more digging!" A teenage boy says.
"Ooooh! I'm excited!" A younger boy exclaims.
"What kind of battles do you think we'll see today?" The girl next to him asks.
'Probably not any, this is just the opening ceremony day. The computer has to have have evey Fighters' data inputed into the system, and then get the rooms for the Fighters made. There won't be any battles, probably videos of Team Fiery-Spark from three years ago.' I think as a giant tv flies into town, and hovers in front of the Fossil Center. The screen turns on, and there stands Joe, smiling and microphone in hand.
"Welcome to the Caliosteo Fossil Park." Joe says. Just hearing his voice reminds me of the day the Hunter and Blaze disappeared. "The place where dreams are made! I'm the owner of this here Fossil Park. The name's Joe Wildwest." He says introducing himself. "Now you Fighter'll love it here. We got three islands to explore!" Dina taps Todd on the shoulder and then high fives him. "Now, get ready fer a surprise!" Joe says.
"The dig site, Trasure Lake will be opened tomorrow. Until then, rest in your rooms contestants!" Joe says as the Mammoth Screen flies away. Fireworks go off, and the new and old Fighters cheer in excitement.
I turn to face Dino. "Dino, take care of your sister and cousin." I bark at him.
"What do you mean? Aren't you staying with us?" Dino asks.
"No, I must sleep outside, that is how it has been for many years with my partner when we would be on journeys." I bark. "I cannot take care of you anymore. I will protect you if there is danger, but you have your vivosaurs. Do not rely on me, you must become strong with your vivosaurs, and also become self sufficient." I explain. "Do you all understand?" I ask my students.
"I understand you perfectly, teacher." Dino says.
"Heh, don't call me your teacher. I was a mentor before, but now I am just a friend. Nothing more, and nothing less." I smile. "So just call me Brightclaw." I bark at them.
"Very well, Brightclaw." Dino says.
"That name sounds very familiar, don't you think, Dino?" Todd says. My eyes widen in fear.
"Yeah, I think that a hero from Vivosaur Island has that name." Dina says as she tilts her head to the right.
"I was named after the hero. It was to give me a sense of honor to my family." I lie to them. 'I pains me to lie to you all, but you can't learn the truth. Not now anyway.' I sigh inwardly.
"I see, so where is your family?" Dino asks.
"They live very far away. In fact, they constantly travel around the world. You know, since they're not human." I growl at the end of my sentence.
"Oh, sorry to bring that up." Dino apologizes to me. "Come on you two, we need to head to bed. It's almost dusk." Dino says as he starts to take his relatives to their rooms, but Dina stops him. She runs over to me, sadness in her eyes.
"Brightclaw, where are you going?" Dina asks me.
"Dina, I will be sleeping outside. I do sleep inside most of the time, but in the situation that I am in right now, I must be able to sleep under the starry sky. If I am kept inside for too long, I would become far too domestic. I had earned my name in a clan of wild cats, raised and fought alongside the clans. In the clan, we all had to sleep in dens, on beds of moss. That is just the easy part of the clan life." I snicker. "The hardest part was in winter, many clanmates got sick. Few cats were even strong enough to get medicine for the sick." I explain. "I will be fine, I have my vivosaurs with me. There is nothing to worry about, and remember, Dina?" I start.
"Have trust in my vivosaurs, and then they will have trust in me." Dina answers.
"That is correct. Also, you and Todd should listen to Dino. Even though older siblings may seem bossy, that is one of the ways that they show how they care about you. Dino cares a lot about the two of you, I can see it in his eyes. He has the look of a guardian, a fierce one that will do anything to protect his family." I smile as I give Dina a hug, before taking off to a nearby forest, not the dig sites though.
"Goodnight Brightclaw!" Todd exclaims, waving his hand goodbye to me. I stop on one tree branch and smile back at my team. I then turn around and run back into the forested area.
"Careful, Wild-Hound!" Sparky barks the nickname that Blaze gave me.
"I cannot hold them back any longer." I cry,the tears that I have been holding back for the past three years now stream down my fur, leaving dark spots on my silver ash gray fur. "Why did you have to call me that, Sparky! There is only one person that is allowed to call me that! He is still out there, with my brother. They are searching for a way home, lost and confused. Without any pterosaurs as well." I cry, setting up camp. I set up a medium sized tent and unpack my belongings, my vivosaurs in their chibi forms. Slash nudges me on the leg, as I gently set the team photo next to my bed. All of my vivosaurs lets out cries of sadness when they see the picture. Tsunami looks at the picture in confusion.
"Who is the person with the wild blue hair, and the fox?" Tsunami asks, while all of my other vivosaurs look at him in shock.
"It's okay everyone, Tsunami hasn't met them yet." I bark, calming the other vivosaurs down, as Whirlwind perches on top of my head. "Tsunami, the boy with the wild blue hair is Hunter, and that isn't a fox." I laugh.
"Then what is he?" Tsunami asks.
"He is an angel-hound, just like me, but he is more like Sparky. The angel-hound with the stunning orange fur is Blaze. He used to be human like me, but he became and angel-hound to find me. Sparky is Blaze's beat friend, and Rosie's partner. He and Sparky are still as to transform into their human forms, unlike me. So that gives him an advantage in some circumstances." I explain to Tsunami.
"He does look powerful." Tsunami says.
"He was, and still is growing stronger with each passing day, wherever he and Hunter are." I bark. "It is time for us to rest everybody, if we want to get a head-start in finding fossils." I yawn looking at my watch, before curling up into a ball and going to sleep.
