Chapter 2
Odessa, Texas
As soon as Claire got home that night she went straight to her room to call Zach and tell him about her mysterious saviour, whom she still couldn't wrap her head round. Upon opening the bedroom door Claire got the shock of her life when she spotted a young woman she'd never seen before sat on her bed. The girl looked to be in her 20's, had long black wavy hair that stopped just half way down her back, ocean blue eyes, pale skin and a heart shaped face.
"Who are you?" Claire nervously asked this stranger.
"My name's Isabelle, but you can call me Belle. It's nice to meet you Claire" Isabelle smiled.
"How do you know my name?" Claire asked staying near the door at all times.
"That's a long story but rest assured you don't need be afraid, I'm not here to hurt" Isabelle said raising her hands in surrender.
"What do you want?" Claire asked her.
"I'm here to help you kid" Isabelle smirked.
"What do you mean your here to help?" Claire questioned crossing her arms over her chest.
"I mean that I want to help you with what's going on in your life and trust me when I say that I know what you're going through. I know what its like to feel alone and scared because you have none else to rely on who would or could possibly understand about your power" Isabelle told her.
"How do you know about my power?" Claire asked suddenly taken back.
"I know because..." Isabelle trailed off as she got off the bed to go grab a glass picture frame from the bedside table before using it to slice open the palm of her hand.
"What are you...doing" Claire trailed off as she watched with wide eyes as Isabelle's hand begun healing itself.
"I'm just like you" Isabelle softly smiled at her.
As Claire continued to stare at the mysterious Isabelle with disbelief she could safely say that she'd never been so shocked in her entire life.
'Holy shit' Claire thought to herself.
"How did you..."
"I'll explain everything later, but right now there's something we need to do" Isabelle smirked before placing her hand on Claire's shoulder and flashing them both away.
New York City
Crouching on the rooftop of his apartment Peter looked over the peaceful city in question. Who was this mysterious hooded girl? How did she know about him? And what did she know?
Before leaving the studio that evening Peter had tried to get any kind of answers from Isaac about the girl, but to his disappointment the painter had set him down and insisted not to go poking his nose into someone else's business unless it was wanted.
After that he'd left both Simone and Isaac to it as he went on home feeling low spirited as he'd lost the one chance he had at finding the answers he so desired about his dreams.
Just then he heard the roof door open and as he glanced over his shoulder to see who it was but shockingly saw it was his brother.
"Ok Pete what's up this time?" Nathan asked approaching him.
"What do you mean?" Peter asked him feeling confused to what his brother meant.
"You called and said to meet you up here, so what is it?" Nathan asked but again Peter was stumped.
He honestly didn't have a clue to what his brother was going on about.
"I didn't call you" Peter shaking his head in denial.
"Come on Pete don't take me for an idiot" Nathan sighed in irritation whilst folding his arms.
"At this point I'd say you are because I think I'd remember calling my own brother" Peter said beginning to get annoyed.
It was bad enough he was having an off day he didn't need Nathan adding to his misery.
"Well if you didn't call me then just who did?" Nathan asked.
"I did"
Came a voice that surprised both men as they glanced over their shoulders to see a hooded figure standing just a few feet away from them. At the sight of this person Peter quickly perked up getting to his feet as he jumped down from the roof edge not once taking his eyes off the mystery figure.
"It's you" Peter said.
"It's a pleasure to see you again Peter" spoke the female individual.
Still like before Peter could hardly make out her face due to the fact that she was half hidden in the shadows.
"Who are you?" asked Nathan staring at the female with his eyebrows knitted together.
"My name's Isabelle, but you can call me Belle" said the female coming out of the shadows pulling down her hood to reveal her face.
Peter felt his breath hitch in his throat, this female who he now knew as Isabelle was positively without a doubt the most stunning creature he had ever seen in his life. Everything about her was beautiful from her crystal blue eyes that he could easily get lost in to the cute little dimples on her cheeks.
"You'll have to forgive me for calling you here at such late time Nathan, but it was of great importance that you be present along with your brother" Isabelle told them.
"How do you my name?" Nathan asked her sounding almost skeptical.
"I'll tell you that in time but right now there are other important matters at hand, such as this one" Isabelle said going to pull the roof door open to reveal a blonde haired teenage girl wearing a cheerleading outfit. "Its ok" Isabelle softly spoke to the girl encouraging her to come forward, which she did after a few seconds going to nervously stand beside Isabelle.
"Who's this?" Nathan asked looking the teenager up and down in question.
"Don't you recognize her Nathan?" asked Isabelle placing an around Claire's shoulder trying to clue in the idiotic father.
"No, why would I?" Nathan asked in confusion.
"You should because after all she does have your eyes" Isabelle firmly spoke this time not appreciating how the older Petrelli looking at her as if she were insane.
With that said both men froze in place neither believing what they had just heard.
"What?" both Peter and Nathan gasped.
"Yeah what?" said Claire looking to Isabelle with wide eyes before the young woman then maneuvered her forward abit.
"The baby girl you and Meredith thought you lost sixteen years ago never died in the fire that day, the company took her away and kept her hidden under another family. So take a good look at her Nathan, she's yours" Isabelle said.
As Claire stood looking at the man before her drinking everything about him in she felt the tears begin to prickle her eyes. What were the chances that this guy was her actual biological father? She'd spent years trying to track her real parents down and for one woman to come out of nowhere and say 'hey this is your Dad' just like that made it seem all too easy. Could she believe it?
But like her though Nathan was also having a hard time taking this life changing revelation to heart. After finding out that he'd lost his baby girl to the fire Nathan's heart had shattered to pieces, it had taken him a good while to come to terms with the loss but with the help of his family and career he'd quickly bounced back.
His one true regret though was that he'd never gotten a chance to get to know his daughter because he'd left her and Meredith in the shadows so his family's reputation wouldn't be dragged through the mud because of his own mistakes. But now looking at this girl who was the exact spitting image of his used to be lover he knew without a doubt in his mind that this...she was his daughter, his baby girl come back to him.
"You have a daughter?" Peter asked his brother in disbelief.
"Yes, I mean no I mean...she can't be" Nathan denied.
"Oh but she can" Isabelle assured him. "Rest assured I'm aware of a lot of things Nathan and I know that Claire here has been searching for you for a long time, you and Meredith both. She has just as much right as anyone to get to know her true family" she said.
"I can't believe this" Peter said staring at Nathan accusingly.
"Pete…"
"No! You had a daughter…I have a niece you never told me about, how could you keep something like this from me?" Peter half shouted at his brother.
"It was a long time ago, I thought she was dead. Had I known the truth I would have done everything I could to find her" Nathan defensively spoke.
"And that makes it any better? It doesn't change the fact that you never once spoke a word about your own daughter let alone her existence" Peter snapped back.
"And just how do you think it would have made me feel to talk about something that hurt me like hell inside?" Nathan asked him.
"Hurt you?" Isabelle scoffed, "just which part hurt you? The five months you wasted not getting to know your daughter or the sixteen years you missed out on?" she asked glaring daggers at Nathan.
"And for the record I'm not this 'something' as you refer to me to, my names Claire" Claire sneered at her bio father, which had both Isabelle and Peter smirking at how much of a spitfire she was.
"And just what the hell do you know? What's any of this got to do with you?" Nathan asked referring his question to Isabelle.
"I known because I've studied all about the company and trust me when I say that it's a complete and utter nightmare" Isabelle told him.
"What's this company?" Peter asked her with interest.
"The company is a place that study's those who are genetically gifted, though when I say gifted I don't mean in a I can play the piano in one hand whilst playing the drums in the other kind of way. I mean people who have inherited or have been placed with an ability that's above and beyond the laws of science, which could be regeneration, speed, super strength, mind reading or even…" Isabelle trailed off looking at Peter who right then knew what the next thing out of her mouth was gonna be.
"Flying" Peter said as Isabelle nodded.
"So it's never been just me. I always thought I was just born a freak, but it turns out there's been other's like me right under my nose this whole time" Claire said.
"More than you think" Isabelle softly spoke giving the teen's shoulder a gentle squeeze in sign of comfort.
She really didn't want to have to tell Claire the truth about her adopted father, but she knew she'd have to break it to the poor girl eventually and it would be better coming from her than finding out the hard way.
"Have you all lost your minds? Mind reading? Flying? Really?" Nathan asked looking at each one of them as if they were mentally ill.
"Says you fly boy?" Isabelle said.
"What?" asked Peter and Claire both staring questioningly at Nathan.
"Oh didn't your brother tell you? He has the ability to fly, always has" Isabelle said folding her arms as Peter looked at his brother disappointedly.
"So this whole time when I was telling you about my dreams, about me seeing myself fly and you telling me I was nuts when all along you knew the truth. You knew what I was going through and you never thought to say a word let alone be there for your own brother the way I've always been there for you!" Peter shouted at him.
"I never wanted that kind of life for you, I didn't want you to have to go through what I did" Nathan said.
"That wasn't your choice to make! I needed you! I needed my brother, but you just shoved me aside and made me out like I was deranged. I trusted you Nathan, and you let me down" Peter told him.
"But it wasn't just you was it Nathan? There was someone else you took orders from, the same someone who not only made you leave your own daughter behind for the sake of your reputation but also knew about Claire's whereabouts as well as your ability's" Isabelle said circling Nathan as if she were a predator and he was her prey.
"I don't know what you're talking about" Nathan said to Isabelle who then chuckled.
"Aww did I touch a nerve? I'm sorry how about we just skip the dramatics then and get straight to the point ay Nate?" Isabelle smirked at him before turning to both Peter and Claire. "Allow me to present to you the culprit of whom the company not only works for but who is also responsible for this whole mess. But let me first just say how sorry I am to you both for doing what I must, I wish I could make this easier but you every right to know the truth" Isabelle said providing them both with a sad smile before flashing away and returning just a few seconds later with another individual beside her.
At the sight of the familiar face Peter felt his whole world come crashing down around him.
"Mom?"
