Hey lovelies! Back with a new chapter, can't wait for you guys to sink your teeth into this one! The plot is definitely a slow burn, but I'm so excited for the upcoming chapters!
"I'm feeling better"
Linda smiles at Maze's words, happiness radiating off of her in waves. "So the medication helped" her therapist says, more of a self-musing than a question.
"Yes, and I'm so relieved. I just wanted to thank you for helping me. I was in a really dark place, and now I feel like I can finally see the light again"
"Well I'm glad" Linda coos, still beaming. Maze's confession shows progress, shows healing. She knew the demon would get better, knew it with all her heart.
Maze nods her head, wrings her hands together in an awkward thanks, lips stretching over razor teeth to say "You really did help me. I'm no longer in pain"
The word rolls around in her head, pain. A simple lie that means nothing. Everything. Dr. Linda ate it right up, believed Maze's smile and her gratitude, believed that her 'depression' had died in a slew of medication. As if she actually took those pills. As if she didn't upturn the bottle and flush the contents down the toilet as soon as she got home.
It was funny, how mortals swallowed whatever falsity was thrown at them.
Maze leaves the office without looking back.
….
"Hello, my little sex-thug" The Devil had arrived, this time in Prada. He situates himself at the bar, a glass of whiskey in his hand as he tilts his head, leaning on the counter with one arm propped up, and beams down at her.
It takes Maze a second to look up, arm sliding down the back of the sofa she had been sitting on. Another black dress on her body, different from before, and more makeup masking her skin: she is too pale and hollow to go without. No heels this time, but she took extra care to brush her hair into submission, make it lie flat alongside her back.
Her façade will not crumble.
She looks at Lucifer now, their recent encounter with his red-dressed plaything still fresh in her mind. Still doesn't know if it was real, if she had been hallucinating the whole moment…
"Maze?"
...Perhaps if she had been hallucinating, that wouldn't be the worse thing. Why not welcome insanity, when she was already numb to the outside world? When she felt like she didn't belong on Earth, felt so incredibly, overwhelmingly ostracized, when tremors rack her body every night and sleep cruelly taunts her…
"Mazikeen"
His voice suddenly rips through her thoughts. Cannot ignore the command in his growl. Makes eye contact. They stare at each other, both emotionless, expressionless, and the silence stretches. Lucifer's eyes narrow, if she were a mere mortal the action would be imperceptible, but she can tell.
"What is it?" Maze asks, tries to take on a lighthearted, casual tone, fails. Lucifer stays silent. Maze watches, transfixed, as his drink is abandoned on the counter, and then he's striding towards her, all piercing eyes and lean muscles, flexing with every step.
She breaks eye contact when he's a foot away, looks down and away, ashamed to meet his gaze. All of a sudden, he's right in front of her, expensive suit and thousand-dollar cologne invading her senses.
Still, the silence grows.
She suddenly feels trapped, and her body acts before her mind catches up. She leaps up onto her haunches, ducks, skirts to the slide, and slips right over the back of the couch. Lands neatly on her feet, and only once she straightens, putting a hand on the sofa for support in the process, does she dare to look at him.
The couch between them gives her a sense of security, she feels as if at least there is some type of barrier between her and his watching eyes; even though they both know that Lucifer could break the sofa in two, throw out out a window without breaking a sweat.
Lucifer looks downright confused by her actions, one eyebrow arches high on his head. He braces himself on the sofa, and slowly leans over it towards her. Maze has to dig her teeth into her bottom lip to keep from flinching. She feels cornered again, and her eyes flash to the elevator in a sharp, deft movement.
Lucifer seems to sense what she's thinking. "I'd catch you."
She tears her eyes from the elevator as fast as she can, staring at him. Licks her dry, cracked lips. "Oh, you'll catch me? You wouldn't even be able to touch me" She throws sarcasm into her voice, tries to mimic the usual haughtiness in her tone.
Seconds later, all the air is knocked out of her. Her head collides painfully with the back wall in an echoing "smash," whiplash coloring her vision with dancing white spots. And Lucifer is everywhere: covering her body with his, hips pressing her into the wall with an such ferocity that he would have killed a human, chest flat against hers, only letting her breath just a small amount so that she doesn't pass out. Her hands shoots out immediately, tries to push him off (but she is weak, so very, very weak from the months of sleep deprivation and nonstop effort to hide her pain, hide her own demons from him that she can't help but submit). He snatches her wrists from him before she has time to blink, slams them above her head with one hand and her joints burn in pain. She sags against the wall, swallowing hard, and looks up at him.
His eyes are a fervent red, and she is hypnotised, staring up into the blazing inferno of his gaze like her life depends on it. Maybe it does. He leans down, brushing her hair back with his free hand, and her body responds to him, to her Master, and she tilts her chin up to give him access.
And then his teeth are at her neck, brushing a spot right below her jawline, where her pulse beats erratically. It is the spot, the very same that he attacked when he made her from the maw of Hell, and she shudders because his teeth are right there, right above it.
To her surprise, he doesn't bite into it, but his voice punctures her thoughts, low and threatening, "I think it's time we had a talk."
She can't nod, not when he teeth are still angled delightfully towards her jugular, but he seems to sense her submission, and retreats, but not before giving her sensitive flesh a scrape. Her body twitches, and she almost smiles: it is a relief to feel something other than numbness.
His chest moves off of her slightly, but he keeps her body pinned to the wall. Maze meets the stony gaze of the floor, stares down before opening her mouth, closing it, opening it once more, and finally opting to stay silent.
He could just command her to tell him, she wouldn't be able to resist, but he doesn't. Just stands there, waiting. She chews her lip, and after a few seconds, relents.
"I…" she breathes, feels as though someone had shoved a hand through her chest, curled their fingers around her heart, and yanked. "I...can't sleep"
Sleep is the least of her problems, but how does she begin to tell him what's really bothering her? How does she begin to tell him, that she feels like she is rotting on Earth. That she feels like an intruder, the sensation so strong that she can't sleep, can't think, can't eat. How does she begin to tell him about the months of 'depression,' as Linda called it, that have been tearing her apart? She feels lost, like she can't tell Lucifer anything, the feeling to run and hide and scream spurs up again.
"You can't sleep?" He asks.
Swallows. "Among other things"
He clicks his tongue, and cocks his head to the side, as if listening intently for something. Lucifer suddenly leans off of her, still close but no longer touching her body. She keeps her hands rooted above her head, even though he isn't holding them anymore. Something deep within her, a Demon instinct, knows him to be her Master no matter if they are in Heaven, Hell, or Earth.
She will not move unless he tells her too.
He looks her up and down, gaze sliding over her body, extended against the wall. "Mazikeen, I know that isn't what's really bothering you, but…" He leans down then, and in one fluid motion his mouth is next to the shell of her ear. "Perhaps I can help you with that particular problem."
His smile is absolutely predatory.
Alright, done with chapter 2! Ooohhh damn, Lucifer definitely has something up his sleeve! Lemme know what you guys think, all reviews welcome! :)
