AN: I know my last update has been a while. I didn't know where to take this story and now I've got some ideas by watching Vampire Diaries and also by re-watching Harry Potter.

Dear Zach,

It's Alana. I am surprised to have received your letter. I should let you know why. I'm sorry to inform you that Caitlin died in a car crash.

My uncle has been hiding the letter to protect me. Don't be mad at him. He had my best interests at heart.

I will come over and see you in the next few weeks thank you can explain to me why you haven't been a part of my life for 15 years!

Alana

As Zach read the letter, he understood what a family member will do as he had protected a family secret. However he didn't want Alana to come to Mystic Falls, he would have gone to see her but had no idea on where she lived now. Knowing that Alana was coming to Mystic Falls gave him a huge problem especially with Stefan and Damon being around.

It had been a few weeks since Zach had received that letter and yet he was starting to feel a bit nervous with the thought of his daughter coming to Mystic Falls and with the continuing presence of Stefan and Damon. Zach knew the danger of what could happen if the two brothers ever found out about Alana. Re-reading the letter, Zach just wished that Alana would come sooner rather than later when it was too late for him to explain.

Hearing the doorbell ring, Zach did wonder on whether it would be Alana but immediately thought it would be Elena Gilbert, Stefan's new friend.

Rising from the office chair, Zach made his way to the door and stopped suddenly when he heard the unfamiliar voice. This couldn't be Alana Kennedy, could it? Hearing that the girl had been allowed in, Zach made his way out of the room only to be met by Stefan.

"It's for you, someone called Alana" Stefan explained.

Hearing who it was, Zach's heart speed up as he was going to be face-to-face with his daughter for the first time. "Thank you" He said as he made his way into the room where Alana was.

Walking into the room, Zach immediately noticed some resemblances to him and to Caitlin. If he could see them, could Stefan have noticed them.

"Alana" Zach said trying to keep his nerves hidden.

Turning round, Alana looked at Zach and raised an eyebrow, "You better have a good reason Zach" She said hiding all emotion from her voice, "Hope you don't mind me calling you Zach, you don't deserve to be called dad yet" Alana continued keeping her gaze on the man who was her dad.

"Keep your voice down" Zach said with a slight tone of panic in his voice.

"Dad?" came a voice from the doorway.

Hearing the voice, Alana looked to the boy who showed her in. was this Zach's son and was he the real reason as to why she wasn't involved in her father's life.

"Yes but an absent one" Alana replied, "But who are you?"

"If I had known who you was, I would have introduced myself properly", Stefan explained, "I'm Stefan Salvatore, Zach's nephew"

Hearing who he was, Alana immediately raised an eyebrow as she looked at Zach. A nephew was more important than his own daughter.

"I understand now. A nephew was more important instead of your daughter" Alana said not quite wanting to believe what she was thinking.

"Alana please" Zach said, taking his daughters hand, "Stefan only came here because he needed a place to stay as his parents died recently" Zach continued, "If I had known Caitlin had died sooner, I would have become a dad to you, I would have looked after you"

"Too bad, my uncle looked after e and he did a better job than you did" Alana said pulling her hand away before looking at Stefan. "I think I should go. It was a mistake to come here and it was a mistake writing to you" She explained as she made her way out of the house.

Making sure that she was out of the house, Alana immediately burst into tears. All she wanted was her dad to be there for her instead he was making excuses up. She would forget about what had happened today and focus on the future which was living in a village called Dibley and living with her uncle and now her aunt.

AN: Well that's Stefan introduced into the story and other characters will get involved soon!
