Serpentine One-Shots

Chapter 3. Bewilderment

Starring: Medusa, Opal Hypno, Shimmer, Dokuro

"It's raining again for the fourth time this week!" Medusa complained while looking out of the window of Opal Hypno's home. She jammed her hands into her pants pockets and huffed. Medusa often didn't like to complain about anything especially when she was in another person's home, but this was second week of the month of June that it rained for a entire week. At the sound of soft footsteps and a soft sigh, the young Anacondrai woman turned around to see the contended face of Opal holding a very small, yet lively, little boy in her arms. Harry, the little boy's name, cooed happily nestled in his mother's arms while holding tightly to a small stuffed toy caterpillar that he just received as a "Get Well" gift after going through his second heart surgery.

Medusa let a grin form on her lips for the fifth time that dreary afternoon. She should have known that Opal, an exiled female from the Hypnobrai clan, wasn't going to allow her to mope and sulk while she was a guest in her home. She took right hand out of her pocket and reached back to rub the crook of her neck.

"Sorry, Opal. Sorry Harry." she added grinning to the puffed up face of the 6 month old boy. The mother looked down and shook her head back and forth in a bemused manner as she saw her son's antics. "Honestly, Harry..." Opal scolded lightly while brushing her clawed fingertips on Harry's scaly cheek. "Did you have to make that face to Medusa? Hmmm?"

Harry, being only a baby, smiled happily at the contact that he was receiving from his mother thus earning another motherly chuckle in the kitchen. Shimmer, a Winged Cat, looked up from the Homes and Gardens magazine that she had been reading and gave a knowing smile to the two other women before shifting her gaze to her own boy, Fang Lee, who was currently wrestling with Leviathan, Medusa's son, on the wooden floor. Flicking her gray ears back, the winged feline gave a soft growl to her son as a warning. "Fang Lee, be careful when your wrestling Levy. I don't you or him getting hurt while wrestling in the kitchen, OK?"

Fang Lee, a hybrid between a Fangpyre and a winged cat, looked up at his mother with his blue eyes and whined in prospect. Shimmer tried again to get the message across. "Fang Lee, I mean it. You better be careful or you'll be in a lot of trouble when we get back home." The firm warning definitely reached the two boy's ears and very quickly they untangled their small limbs from one another before running to their mother's sides.

Opal laughed quietly. "Shimmer, you certainly do have a way of getting your point across to those two."

The winged cat smiled in response. "Well, Opal, when you live in a city full of snakes day in and day out, you have to be on your toes to make sure that your kids are out from being in the way."

Medusa snorted while adjusting Levy on her hip. "Oh, yeah, you have to because you don't know WHAT is going to happen. Be it the regular fist fights that Skalidor and Acidicus get into with each other, the Slither Pit battles, or constantly battling the Ninja."

"Yeah, even with being married to Fangtom, it can get PRETTY crazy being a part of the Fangpyre tribe." murmured Shimmer.

As the two young mother continue to list all the possibilities of dangers that happened daily in the lost city of Ouroboros, Opal breathed quietly a prayer of thanks to God for allowing her to live near the city limits and keep her son safe from the dangers of city.
