Chapter 2
Lag and Niche followed Bree as they departed the room into a few miles across the street, into a relatively large building where they met many busy people doing boring paperwork Bree didn't bother to care about. Ignoring her surroundings she guided her friends up the flight of stairs that led to a room as Bree pinched her nose at the sickening, recognizable scent of black coffee coming from the room as they stood on the door.
"Where are we, Bree?" Lag asked. "What is this place?"
"Like I said, we're visiting a friend of mine that'll give a building for us. He takes too much coffee though."
She slammed the door open and exclaimed enthusiastically: "Yagami!"
"Bree." Yagami sighed, without looking up from his work. "I've told you many a time not to barge in."
"I'd listen if I cared." Bree retorted with a smirk, walking in and draping herself across an armchair. "I need your help with something."
This was rare, and it surprised Yagami, however it didn't show. "Is that so? What do you need help with?"
"I am making a cafe and need a venue. If you would be a darling and arrange said venue for me it would be greatly appreciated."
"And why should I do this for you?"
"Because you love me."
"..." Yagami couldn't help thinking how much of an idiot Bree was.
"Come on!" She groaned. "You've got tons of places we could use. It's not like we need anything huge or luxurious or something."
"It's not that simple." Yagami muttered, tidying his desk and preparing to leave the room. "Either way, I've no time to attend to your games. I need to attend to a meeting with a special guest soon."
"Work, work. Humph." Bree scoffed, impatient. "Who are you meeting with this time and what for?"
"Is it any of your business?" He asked.
An angered Bree was about to scowl before an attendant opened the door. "Sir, Earl Ciel Phantomhive awaits in the guest rooms."
Yagami hid a secret sigh, as Bree's annoyance morphed into a sudden excitement.
"Ciel would give me a venue." Bree said slyly. She was mostly teasing, she loved pestering Yagami. "In fact, I'll come with you and ask him myself!" Bree strutted over to Yagami's side with a grin.
Yagami looked down to the girl with an indifferent expression. "Do as you please."
Bree's grin widened and she waved Lag over.
The three of them, plus Niche and Steak, headed off to where Ciel was waiting. Fortunately, Bree behaved herself, quietly following behind Yagami with a smile.
From inside a fancily decorated and dignified room, the 14-year-old Phantomhive noble was sipping Earl Grey as he sat in wait of his business client, his pitch black butler, Sebastian at his side.
"Master," Sebastian began, a sly smile on his lips. "If I may, what are your plans of business in Amberground? Throughout your entire thoughts and journey of being here, you've yet to say a word of it to me."
"'Tis a simple expansion for the moment." Ciel replied, eyes closed as he finished his cup of tea leisurely. "At the moment I require a venue, preferably to accommodate our newly hired workers to expand the household business - hence why I'm meeting Yagami here."
Sebastian's smile widened, curious and mildly doubtful. "I do believe there's more to that than just a simple extension, my lord."
His words earned a rare, faint smirk from Ciel. "Perhaps."
The door opened, as Yagami entered. "Pardon the wait, Lord Phantomhive."
"It's fine, Yagami." Ciel stood and Sebastian bowed.
Bree stepped into view and smiled, "It's good to see you again, Ciel, Sebastian."
Ciel sighed at the sight of the brunette girl. "Bree. To what do we owe the pleasure?" He asked, already sounding exhausted.
"I'm not here to meddle, Ciel. I'm here on business."
Yagami was a little surprised at that, due to the fact that Bree had previously stated she was most definitely here to meddle.
"What sort of business?" Ciel asked curtly
"The same as you." Bree smiled. "So, don't mind me, continue as you would. I'll contribute what I have to, yes?"
"Contribute?" Ciel asked, mild annoyance in his tone, but in all curious and surprised. "Bree, you don't randomly pop up in important meetings like this and make demands."
"The only reason you'd look for Yagami is to find a spot to extend your 'little Phantomhive household'," She teased, earning an angered look from Ciel. "I came here to look for Yagami for the same reason, to acquire a venue from him. How's that?"
"Well, I am in a meeting with Ciel," Yagami uttered tersely. "Thus so as much as you'd like to ask me a venue can't it wait after our business is over?"
"Nope, I'm in a rush and I don't want any delays for my maid cafe." She said.
"A maid cafe?" Sebastian turned to Bree with a smile, as she threw him secret winks that Sebastian knew screamed 'help me out if you want to tease Ciel'.
"It would be ungentlemanly to not hear her out, young master." Sebastian said, with a small smirk. Bree grinned. "Not to mention, Miss Bree's last name is Alexanders, and is the second heir to her family and the companies that come with it. It would do you good if you did built a working relationship between the two names early on, would it not?"
Ciel tapped his finger as he contemplated his options. Sebastian had a point, even if it was mostly irrelevant. "Bree, I don't mean to be rude, but your idea already sounds...troublesome."
"Why? It's a maid cafe. It's a cafe, the staff are maids. What's troublesome about it?"
"The vibe I'm getting from my butler."
Bree chuckled. "That's not my fault, technically."
Ciel sighed, "Whatever, just...make it quick."
"Right! Well basically, I would like to request a venue for the cafe that I earlier mentioned. If you would, Earl Phantomhive, you are welcome to join me in this endeavor, I believe it would do you good publicity at the very least if you joined us, perhaps even sold some of your Funtom sweets? We could turn this project of mine into a mutual...thing."
Ciel could easily observe from the suspicious smirks between his butler and the azure-eyed girl that saying anything, even an order, wouldn't do him any good. Pondering over it further, Bree was a recognized heir and he'd probably be lectured about fostering business partnerships again, plus there was nothing to lose (besides his sanity) and benefit to gain. There was only a sigh as he brushed his fingers against his head in annoyance, "Fine, fine. I'll contribute and expand my business into your little cafe. Just don't expect anything overly fancy."
Bree turned as bright as a button, exchanging thank you looks with Sebastian. "Great! So now I'm into your little business thing now. So, Yagami, you can prepare an appropriate venue for me, can you?"
Yagami stared at Ciel, struggling with looks that yearned for help at him. Yagami himself wasn't so fond of Bree making demands and getting her way through her slippery means, so he cleared his throat and replied:
"Ahem, Bree, things like this aren't that simple. As of the moment all of my current venues are reserved-"
"But you have one meant for Ciel, right?"
Yagami paused. She had him there. Of course he had a venue prepared for Ciel, in anticipation of his expansion, it would be unorganized if he didn't. Yagami had to restrain himself from acting in frustration. Bree was more trouble than she was worth.
"I'm working with Ciel now, so his expansion is my expansion, you see?" Said troublesome girl added, a smug gleam in her eyes.
"Yes. I have a venue prepared." The man finally relented.
"Great! You can give all the details to Ciel and we'll take it from there. I'll treat you to a cup of coffee as thanks!" As if that would be enough. Bree started shuffling towards the door.
"What? A partnership doesn't mean you leave one person to do all the work, Alexanders!" Ciel exclaimed.
"I know! I didn't say I wasn't going to do work, I'm just not going to do work...here." Bree grabbed Lag, who had been all but forgotten in the doorway, and scurried out, not before politely saying goodbye to Sebastian, of course.
That girl really was more trouble than she was worth.
