1 Year later…
ERZA: 13 | NATSU: 0
"Master?" She walked over to the bar, resisting the urge to wrinkle her nose at the smell of cheap booze on the old man. As a minor, she still didn't like the thought of being anywhere near the foul-smelling stuff.
"Erza! How was your mission? Did you skin the mountain bears?" The tiny man practically ran across the bar in his eagerness to see the girl, kicking Macao's drink into his face.
"Yes, Master. I was wondering, where's Natsu? I haven't seen him yet, and he usually waits at the front door to challenge me."
"Oh, Natsu…?" the old man scratched his chin, trying to think. "I think he's in the forests. With Lisanna."
"Oh?" She tried to keep her face neutral, but for some reason she really wanted to punch something. Where was that Mira-Jane…?
"They should be back soon, it's nearing sundown," he reassured her. "And he's been training the entire time you've been gone so that you two could fight together."
As if called in by Makarov's words, the sound of Natsu running hit Erza's ears. She turned and was immediately hit in the face by a flaming hand.
"Ha! Ha haha ha ha!" Natsu started squealing and running around in circles. "I did it, I did it, my first victory! Didja see? Didja see, droopy-eyes? Didja see, Lisanna? Didja see, Erz-"
He was stopped by an armoured boot to the stomach, and a very angry Erza, whose face seemed to be turning purple.
"Didn't I teach you manners, Natsu? While teaching you numbers and letters, maybe I should have taught you a little etiquette as well…" She pulled on his ear and he yelped.
"L-lisanna! Help me!"
She may or may not have tugged a little harder as she dragged him into the corner. "You. Do not. Attack a comrade. Like that."
"Aaaaaaaahhhh! Gomen, gomenasai! I'm sorry! I won't do it again, promise!"
"And that doesn't count as a win either," she growled.
"Y-yes, ma'am…" She let him go and he stumbled away, mumbling something about 'scarier than dragons'. She half-smiled, but felt like she'd been betrayed when he immediately went over to Lisanna.
"Sorry for the disruption, Master," She bowed to Makarov and hurried away.
She laid back in bed, trying to shut her brain off for just a moment, but she couldn't help but be a little bit annoyed at herself.
Why was she getting so competitive with this silly bet? In all honesty, she had originally thought that it would be over within a few weeks, but it seemed to be stretching further and further out. She supposed that Natsu was finally starting to train properly and being serious in his fights, but that still didn't account for her being so serious…
And Lisanna? What did she have to do with it? What did she have to do with anything? Natsu was her friend, not Lisanna's- Oh great, now she was acting like a child.
She rolled over again and closed her eyes. "It'll be over soon…"
